Title: Open Tray Error Alternative Solution Using Verbatim
Post by: odgaf on December 03, 2006, 09:29:00 PM
i had a heap of discs that id backed up with open tray errors on both the hitachi and samsung anyway i loaded up nero and tried to close the sessions on them as clone cd said they were only partially lead out
nero didnt work
i then used image burn and went to tools then drive and tried to close disc didnt work  gave me some crappy error
i then used image burn and went to tools then drive and close track it did something and then it let me close disc without the error i popped the disc in both xbox and it worked on both samsung and hitachi
kewl i thought and proceeded to close the track and disc on all my coasters and guess what
i now have 13 perfectly working discs which i was gonna throw away aint life a bitch
anyway i dunno if someone else has posted about this but it worked for me hope it works for you lot
and yes i was using verbatim discs maybe this will work on other disc manufacturers too

i have no idea why it works but it did and thats all i care about

my friend just rang he told me hes got 5 out of 11 discs working now interestingly he said it might work on consoles with the rubber band mod i.e. they might not need the rubber band
he also used verbatim discs

ps i was burning using the pioneer 111d drive which i understand has been giving out coasters with open disc tray errors on a certain firmware  i will cross flash to 111L later today but still dont throw away your coasters till u try this

so you closed the track then closed the disc ? weird huh my friend who recovered 5 discs also has the pioneer burner maybe it is hardware dependant although 6 of hes were unrecoverable
all 13 of mine were recovered  might be specific pioneer firmwares that coast and be recovered, the error on clonecd  said lead out was partially written did u see that error ?

Weird that the burning does not have the closing done properly. Try to burn with ImgBurn. Everytime you will see the 'finalizing' part ... So such issue ...

yea i see it and even when i try to close the disc in image burn it says error because a track is not closed on the disc

I get an I/O error with or without a DVD inserted when I go to any of the 3 close options...

ok i have some more info
ive been burning on the fly using clonecd and ive discovered which discs are recoverable
basically when clonecd finishes burning the discs pop out with some crap music
however i noticed that the ones that fail dont pop out even tho clone cd says it finished writing successfully
these are the discs that can be recovered and the good news for me anyway is that today i backed up my gears of war using ridaata cheapos and i was able to recover the disc using image burn close track then close disc
so its not just verbatim u can recover
ive also downgraded to 1.23 firmware it does seem to be more stable

also guys try all your coasters not one or two my friend recovered nearly half hes dead discs even if u can recover a small percentage its at least something
good luck

Pioneer 111D with dangerous bros 1.29 f/w has been flawless for me.  I have been using XBC to burn the discs.
