Title: Strange Message When Trying To Flash Hitachi
Post by: Chen_Kwan_Tai on November 15, 2006, 01:49:00 PM
Hey guys. I'm in the middle of the firmware hack (bought the 360 today), I've got the Hitachi drive. The drive shows up in Widows (letter G) after using Slax Boot-CD. When I'm trying to flash the drive, using Maximus-Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_3_Stealth, I get this message:

The drive is in windows. I'm using the correct letter. Working version? What does that mean?

Need help!!!

What is the version on the drive?  Find it on the white sticker on the top of the DVD Drive its self.

I believe you are using the wrong firmware (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) 78FK should be used with the latest modified one.

Hm, you mean I'm trying to use an old firmware? I should use a later version?

Maybe someone can point me in the direct of that version?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Looks like you hit the lottery. 78fk drives are not flashable by the normal means (meaning garyopa / maximus 's programs cannot work because commands like memdump ain't run on the 78fk drive).

Have to either : 1) wait patiently for Gary Sensei / or somebody to come out with the revised flasher.
                       2)  invest time and $ in equipment such as a mini blow torch like team modfreakz

BTW, where did you buy your xbox360?

Did you even do the desolder method yet that is needed? P.S. look on the mainpage. Hitachi-LG 78FK released by Maximus.

Yes. and to get everythiung working (like my 0078FK) you have to follow the video the amazing jojo14 gave you. Removing the epoxy... and desoldering the chip and resoldering.

unfortunately, you cannot flash that drive with software. u will need an external programmer.

how do people get this far if they read the tutorials they would see what version dvd drives the hacked firmware supports.

Plus you usually would look first before flashing to see what version you had.

guess those autoflashers don't help noobs very good  lol   at least gary opa has a check before flashing otherwise you would be screwed.

He can still flash it...but he has to do the desoldering and then use an external programmer. It's not hard in my opinion..but yeah..looks like he doesn't want to do it that way so...Sorry =(

Thanks for all the feedback and comments guys. Appreciate it!

The solution for me right now is to play original games. It'll be quite expensive, but I'll just have to live with that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Tomorrow is Gears of War day, I'm gonna start off with that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pop.gif)

majik655. Yeah, I'm a n00b. Did follow a tutorial though, but didn't came across any info how to find out if my drive was supported or not... Maybe I was too excited (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif) Good thing the drive did not flash, or else I would be F_CKED!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cussing.gif)

The torched-off-chip-method is nothing for me, I guess I will break something...

Anyways. Maybe there will be an all software solution for this in the future. Or maybe I'll just buy a new drive, all too expensive right now though.

Thanks again guys!

(Sorry for all the smilies hahaha  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rotfl.gif))
