Kreon Alternative FW for the Samsung SH-D162C drive v0.8Posted by XanTium | September 9 13:33 EST |
| |
Kreon released a new version of his firmware for the Samsung SH-D162C PC DVD-drive. This modified firmware allows you to dump original Xbox and Xbox 360 discs with the cheap SH-D162 PC DVD drive (no Xbox(360)-drive or disc hot-swap required). This new version comes support for full Security Sector (SS) extraction!
XBOX 360 enabled alternative FW for the Samsung SH-D162C drive - V0.80
Here it is... the first all in one PC DVD-ROM drive with full XBOX360 backup capabilities. Full image and SS extraction functions have been implemented in this release, while still maintaining all the basic functions of the DVD-ROM drive.
Why not V1.00? Well... I'm still working on hardware correct timing of response types 5 & 7, which ultimately is the right way to do this. Studying a large amount of security sectors has shown however, that all (to my knowledge!) current games uses the same timing scheme, which makes faked timing possible. This release makes use of faked timing, and will use fixed values for all timed values. A 'jitter'function has been added that will make the fixed values vary sligthly, effectively making any attempt by M$ to detect a specific timer pattern for copied games impossible.
So, will this work with all games? Yes... I believe it will with all existing games, but that might ofcourse change for future releases. Always keep that in mind when backing up games, and always test the first backup made before making more backups of the same game.
Should problems occur and you believe it to be caused by incorrect extraction of the SS, feel free to contact me at: [email protected] But...before doing so, a little extra effort from your side is needed Smiley In order to fix any bugs, i need to know what game you're working with, and I need a copy of the failing SS as well as a copy of a working SS extracted from a TS-H943 or a GDR-3120L. If you're unable to supply me with a working SS, I can not guarantee any kind of help, as it is very unlikely that I can get my hands on the same exact release of a given game.
This is what you get: * Full challenge/response functionality. * Two types of unlock for XBOX 360 game discs. One for making xtreme style images and one for making wxripper style images. Both types of iso can be made using isobuster. Ripping using wxripper isn't supported for the time being * A 'lock' function that will cancel any enabled unlock state. This can be very useful for custom applications. * 'Error skipping' which basically speeds up the error handling of the drive. A complete wxripper style image (including video) can be obtained in 15-16 minutes, when error skipping is enabled. Getting through the critical area of LBA 19408-20479 will take you more than 20 minutes alone, if error skipping is disabled Sad * A much more streamlined command interface which is good news if you intend to write an application that makes use of the drives extra features. * The drive will default to unlock state 2 and error skip enabled when a 360 media is inserted. You can in other words use isobuster to obtain a wxripper style image without issuing any commands to the drive Smiley * RPC1 support (RPC-2 actually but with automatic change of drive region and RCE support)
This is what you'll have to wait for.. * Hardware correct timing for response types 5 & 7.

Rest NFO/ReadMe:
QUOTE
You will probably notice that the the drive reports as being RPC-2, if you use a program like DVDinfo - this is not a bug! The drive changes it's region setting according to the media inserted. The region code listed in DVDinfo (and other software like it) is the current region setting of the drive and it should match the region of the inserted media. If the media allows playback in more than one region, the drive region will be set to the region with the lowest number. An example could be a disc allowing playback in region 2 and 4 players, which would make the drive change it's region to region 2. Media with no region restrictions or with RCE protection will make the drive default to region 1.
Ripping using Isobuster..
---------------------------------
Not much to add here except for the number of LBA to read when using unlock 2 is 3697696 as opposed to 3567872 for unlock 1.
A successful wxripper style image will have a size of 7.572.881.408 bytes, while a successful xtreme style image will have
a size of 7.307.001.856 bytes.
And now some technical stuff....
Command set additions found in this FW..
-----------------------------------------------
FF 08 01 01 , 'Enable Unlock 1 (xtreme) state' as we already know it from the 360 xtreme modded drives.
This command is supported for legacy reasons only. Custom applications should use the new
'Set lock state' instead.
FF 08 01 11 xx , 'Set Lock State'
xx=00 - Drive locked (no unlock state)
xx=01 - Unlock State 1 (xtreme) enabled
xx=02 - Unlock state 2 (wxripper) enabled
FF 08 01 15 xx , 'Set Error Skip State'
xx=00 - Error skip is disabled
xx=01 - Error skip is enabled
AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 xx C0 , This is the well known SS extract commands from the xtreme FW.
FF 08 01 10 , 'Get Feature List'
This command will return a list of the additional features supported by the drive.
All values returned are 16 bit values, and the list is terminated with null (0x0000)
The two first words of the returned list always reads as 0xA55A 0X5AA5 in order to guarantee
that a reply from a drive not supporting this command correctly isn't mistaken for a feature list.
An example feature list could be:
0xA55A, 0x5AA5, 0x0100, 0xF000, 0xF001, 0x0000
This list would indicate that the drive supports Unlock 1, Lock and Error Skip, as it can be seen
from the values defined below:
XBOX 360 related features..
0x0100 : The drive supports the unlock 1 state (xtreme)
0x0101 : The drive supports the unlock 2 state (wxripper)
0x0120 : The drive can read and decrypt the SS
0x0121 : The drive has full challenge response functionality
General drive features..
0xF000 : The drive supports the lock (cancel any unlock state) command
0xF001 : The drive supports error skipping
This is the complete list of defined features at the moment. If you're working on a custom application you
might want to contact me in order to get the latest list.
To those of you that might be wondering if this release will work with XBOX games.....well it probably will.... in theory at least. No extensive testing
has been made at this point, so I guess you will have to test that part by yourself Smiley
That's just about it for now. I hope to be back with more goodies soon and that this release will be helpful to you all.
A big thanks must go to FlexyZ for helping me test the FW and for letting me borrow, destroy and finally repair his TS-H943 Wink. Without this kind of help this release wouldn't be possible. I would also like to thank all of the other guys working hard on making the 360 a little more user friendly Smiley Keep up the good work!
Enjoy!

I'm a newb at "360" backups and been reading around about 360 backups here and there, but the question i have with this is do you need to flash ur 360's firmware (regardless?)or can u just buy this dvd drive seperately, put it in my PC, put this firmware in it and burn back ups of my games and it'll work on a normal, non tampered 360?
-
i must give props where they are due. good job kreon.
in the xtreme 3.3 thread several of us suggested that c4e help or takeover the project. not from total lack of faith, just from us not hearing any development news. personally, it'd be hypocritacal of me not to apologize. so i apologize. i'll try it out later today and see what happens.
again, great job, and thanks.
EDIT: question, will this be able to dump an xbox 1 game, AND extract an xbox 1 ss?

your 360 will still need to be flashed in order to play the games. you just wont need to do anything with the 360 to backup your games.

Great job Kreon, you just became another hero of the 360 scene

Good question. If I had the drive, I'd try it.

If I use this FW can I make a stealth backup of my Pro Evo soc 5 (xbox1)??

SWEET FANCY MOSES!

That is great news. I have two questions. I dont have the Samsung SH-D162C yet but was planning on buying one. What would be a average price of what these sell for and where can I get one? Also will this new firmware work with Schtrom360Xtract v2.1 and give you the xtreme 3.0 stealth style image without having to manually inject the ss or anything? Thanks
-
is there a recommended tool for extracting the ss.bin.
I tried schtom 2.1, drivetools1.2.0005 (aspi and spti) and they all provide slightly different resulting files. They are also all different from the ss.bin I got on the web ( that one worked OK).

It does not seem to be the case. Just tried it and got the message to inject the ss.bin at the end. Maybe a small adjustment for schtrom.

Good luck finding one, I am in the same boat.
Seems that the only places that have them instock is Australia and Germany. You can pick one up on ebay but expect to pay around $70 shipped to the US. Sucks
I was reading through the Schtrom360Xtract thread over at xbhacker and they said 2.2 will be released soon. Hopefully that will use this new v.8 if the 2.1 does not.
Anyone that can get there hands on this drive please share the wealth and hit me up on PM.

Just did 3 schtrom 2.1 in a row, and none were perfect match
... wondering if it would work or make a coaster

well, just to be sure I do not mislead anyone. The message saying that the ss.bin as to be added after is still there.
I does not means that the data that is put by schtrom in the file not not good. it might only be a warning since the firmware did not supported it before.

Na.. I downloaded a SS that worked and I compare it with the one extracted with Schtrom... not a 100% match... lets say 98%
-
Evidently many of you had issues reading beyond the 3rd paragraph... not with the ss.bin extraction.

Ive got one of those drives in my pc, black one. No relevance to this, i don't do xbox360 backing up.
just thought id say that these drives are easy to get in the UK, lots of uk online retailers stock them. Maybe worth trying to check them out and seeing if any ship elsewhere. its unlikely though.
-
If anyone wants 1 of these jobs I can get them but ill have to ship from new zealand. The drive costs $33.00usd and the postage is around $15 to $17usd. I will order them from here http://www.elive.co....p?product=TT016 then send them out through NZ Post www.nzpost.co.nz for prices. The parcel will weight about 1kg. PM me if you wish to get one and we can sort it out. I am on the search for an NZ online store that will post directly to the US. When I find it I will post on here.

Thank you for telling me that as I was about to order two from that site. That is wrong though how they trick you my showing a pic of the SH-D162C and it even says it in the middle of the page. False Advertisment. Anyways anwhere else I could possibly get it for under $50.00 shipped? TigerDirect seems to be sold out.
-
Great news! Thank you, Master Jedi! Forgive us our faithlessness! You will never be doubted again!
If you do the Australia thing, watch out for PCsmith selling on ebay. He has a good reputation but I got a DOA drive & he is being less than helpful. If you wanna read about it here ya go: http://forums.xbox-s...ghlight=pcsmith
Sunwill is fishy! Do a search, found a few negative comments but no reviews at all!!

There is another samsung drive which has been succesfully crossflashed to this firmware
TS-H352c
The easiest way to crossflash the drive with the no check option is to open a command prompt and change to the directory where your sfdnwin.exe file is and type in "sfdnwin.exe -nocheck" and hit enter. You should get a message box that pops up that says "-Nocheck Use!!" and you'll have to hit ok to continue.

Why not there are links to everything else off the tools page and modchip ads on the main page, think they would be more of a worry than a firmware update for a PC DVD-ROM Drive
-
Hi guys, the United Kingdom has lots of these drives, OZ and NZ is like gonna cost more on shipping surely?
£12 i bought one for, thats roughly $22 without shipping, so you have to find a site that ships,
heres a list of vendors that stock this drive in the uk, one must ship to the US, otherwise PM me and i will see how much a postal option would work out to if enough of you want some?

I actuallly purchased a large lot of these through ebay and I'm just waiting on them to arrive. If anyone is interested in an individual drive let me know.

I have. Neither Schtrom360XtractV2.1 nor DVDInfoPro pull out the correct SS. I've hex matched from both programs against a confirmed (by myself, because I burned and played them myself) SS of Fight Night Round 3 and Burnout Revenge. Even funnier, when using Schtrom360XtractV2.1, you get slightly different results each time you extract the SS. This fw release is ether broken or there isn't a right extraction program out right now that works with v0.80

I've read on the xboxhacker forum someone successfully extracted a WHOLE xtreme 3.0 image with SS, but when they extracted the SS seperately they got the same problem that I have. I guess we need to wait until Schtrom360XtractV2.2 comes out for full functionality...

I ordered this drive from the following Ebay merchant (this is the current listing...the listing I bid on has since closed) ==>
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:31&Item=150029253026
This merchant offers tracking/insurance (which the German merchants DON'T). I should be receiving my tracking number Monday (remember Australia is 15 hours ahead of us...at least New South Wales is
). Plus this merchant has excellent feedback. I checked on orders from the US (from feedbacks left)...they have been getting their drives in 4-10 days. Not bad.
I am just glad I didn't order from PCSmith.
Oh and they allow PayPal (along with a ton of other options)
.
-
Agreed with boba_fett, here is the
It seems that if you do a full extract, the right ss.bin info is present in the file. It is only that Schtrom 2.1 assumes you use Kreon 0.60 and sends the warning no matter what. In fact that was indicated by Kreon and AcidFlash in their posts.
GRRRR I want some DVD+R DL. I guess I must wait for tomorrow

No, It means that If you do a full extract in schtrom 2.1, you are ready to burn the image right after. The message is a false alarm based on the assumption that you are still using fw 0.6 that does not have SS extraction.
So all is nice exctract whole image (forget the warning) and burn.

Wow possibilities of devoloping "homebrew code". Seems this drive will do anything if it makes you a few extra bucks.

The Samsung SH-D162C DVD-Rom drive is popular with the Xbox 360 community as it can be modified for use as a R&D tool for people exploring the possibilities of developing "homebrew" code on the Xbox 360.

Have just backed up my Hitman 360 game using 0.8 and Schtrom360XtractV2.1 and all I did was back it up , ignore the error message, and burn with clone cd.

so perhaps a temporary pinned topic in these forums is where it belongs.
but i can agree that the "where can i buy" should be limited here, though it is somewhat relevant.

Very nice work Kreon!!! As stated earlier, it works fine with schtrom 2.1, just ignore the warning that pops up about the ss.bin. Just rip with schtrom (whole disk (stealth xtreme 3.0)), and burn with clonecd. Doesnt get much simpler than that.
-
Great job Kreon!
I didn't realize you can flash the SH-D162C drive and get it to read xbox 360 games... oh now I can backup my games so much easeier :-D
Now just a matter of finding this drive. If anyone has one for sale for a *reasonable* price please PM me.
I will not buy one on ebay for what they are asking!

i just tried to test an xbox 1 burn with schtrom 2.1, but didnt fan out so well.
can you guys give me a quick run down what your doing with 360 games. i dont want to backup any of mine, already got em done.
1), are you sending any custom commands, or is the fw working "right out of the box"
2), how are you using the programs together? i only used schtrom.
3), maybe a quick tut, i figure its not that tough. just want to make sure i did it right before wasting another disc maybe doing it wrong. its one thing to waste them if it just doesnt work, its another if i'm doing it wrong cuz i never used the program before.
thanks guys.
-
Flash the SH-D162C with Kreon 0.8 firmware. Use Schtrom360 2.1 hit whole disc extreme stealth 3.0 burn in clone cd. Thats it. All works good on 360 backups so far, just trying a xbox1 game but not going to burn it and waste a verb, will make a backup of V8 Supercars - Racedriver 3 and test the xbox1 game then, but alas its not in the backwards compatible emulator list yet I think? So will wait.

There is a latest release of xbox backup creator 2.0.0.100 but there also may be issues with xbox1 games, testing is required but should work, check the main page for link.
-
alright. thanks.
the 2 things i wasnt that sure on was if any commands had to be sent to it, and why dvdinfo was being used. so thats pretty much the same thing that i did. but i did send a command over first. and evidently it did somethign to my drive. after making the image, i put in a reg dvd and it wouldnt recognize it. reflashed the drive and it worked again. i'll try 1 more time, after that, i'll wait for everyone else.
-
Confirmed working for me with SH-D162C v0.8 FW, usee Schtrom 2.1 and burnt with Clone CD @ 4x to Verb DL. Boots up fine ;-)

working great
im using it with Xbox_Backup_Creator_v2.0.0.100 im doing my 2nd backup now
i then burn the iso with IMGburn and its working great

There is another samsung drive which has been succesfully crossflashed to this firmware
TS-H352c
The easiest way to crossflash the drive with the no check option is to open a command prompt and change to the directory where your sfdnwin.exe file is and type in "sfdnwin.exe -nocheck" and hit enter. You should get a message box that pops up that says "-Nocheck Use!!" and you'll have to hit ok to continue.

Has anyone else tried this? where did you get this info from Niteman1969, because you say: There is another samsung drive which has been succesfully crossflashed to this firmware, but to me it reads like you haven't done it yourself, but have heard about it?
Any more info on this anyone.

It is well documented. Unfortunatly the drive mentioned is an Dell OEM version of the sh-d16c that is even more difficult to find then the sh-d16c itself.

What problems are you having? Unable to create a working iso with correct ss.bin? or once burnt it fails to boot? I found a xbox1 done with Schtrom360 made an image without errors and seems OK to burn but I'm not gonna burn it till its backwards compatible, I tried the latest release of xbox backup creator it failed on same disc with errors. A msg came up saying its normal with xbox1 games continue but can't be sure if its normal or disc damage. Well must be something wrong with xbox backup creator because it appeared to be OK with Schtrom360 2.1 besides the SS.bin error for the SH-D162C...
-
it seems to make the disc just fine, no errors or anything. and using schtrom, as long as full extract is done then it should pull the ss inside the extract like its doing for the 360 disc (i'm assuming). but when i load it into the 360, i get the "the is an xbox disc. please put it in your xbox to play" message. and it wont load at all in modded xbox. i'll just wait to see if someone else figures it out. i figure i sacrificed 2 dl's for it. and the game is splinter cell (first one) and it is on the backwards compatible list. and my 360 already had the update downloaded to it.
just the quick facts on what i did.
flashed the drive with kreon 0.8
loaded in splinter cell original.
opened up schtrom v2.1
extract whole disc
let it run.
burnt with imgburn at 2.4x on verb
-
I tried backing up my copy of Test Drive Unlimited and I get unrecognized disc in the 360. I'm using Samsung SH-D162C drive V0.80 and Schtrom360Xtract V2.1. I used Clone CD to burn the image that was created. Are you suppose to extract the SS and apply it to the image? DVDR-DL are to spendy to make coasters. Thanks in advance.
-
please don't think of me as a idiot for saying this, but If I have a NME-360 chip installed. will the process use to burn games through this pc firmware work correctly on it? I heard something about NME-360 not reading xtream formats.

Check your splintercell.dvd file (or whatever you have named it)
The layer break for an xbox1 game is different from a 360 game. And Schtrom may have set it incorrectly.
You may want to change the layerbreak position in the .dvd file to be "LayerBreak=1913776" instead of "LayerBreak=1913760"... just edit it with notepad.
Just a thought.... may still make you another coaster...hahahah

you may definately have a point. since i burn with imgburn, you manually configure the layer break in the settings. and i never thought about changing that (then again, i didnt know). i guess i can try one more time. too bad i need to extract it again since i already deleted it. thanks for the tip. guess i'm willing to "donate" one more coaster to the cause. good thing i got a new batch in and theres not a ton coming out in the next few months.

You tried burning with clonecd? Schtrom360 does set the layer break for xbox1 games to 1913776
as my image in clonecd states this is the case, and 360 are 1913760 as should be. I will try a burn soon and see what happens? as long as my originals are backwards compatible. Which some aren't yet?
There maybe issues with the firmware of 0.8 Kreon or the software extraction tools? Surely theres someone out there with a successfully backup xbox1 game. Any input?

Hi Guys
So with xbox 360 games just run full stealth backup and ignore error msg, once complete open clone cd and burn.
Now with Xbox 1 it does not work this way even with the layer break changed, has anyone tried Whole disc
extreme 2.0 image with the layer break changed?
I'm really interested, cause I want to burn my copy of Half life 2 and play it on the console.

Yeh it just errors because the app doesn't realise its the 0.8 Kreon which supports SS.bin. The SS is still in the image and you can extract it and DMI and PFI to double check from the image with tools in Schtrom360

yeah, after i made the new image (again) i checked the .dvd and saw the break set correctly. the problem is, i'm one of those lucky ones that gets an error anytime using clonecd (cant remember the error at this point, something about not enough space on the disc. but the common one where usually you update, and are ok. i updated to 5.2.9.1, and still arent ok). so i've been using imgburn. its been working fine, you just have to burn the .000 file and manually set the layer break.
on my first 3 coasters, i burnt them with the 360 layer break until it was mentioned about they had different ones. so i changed the break in the settings to the xbox 1 one, and still wound up with another coaster. as we all know, losing dl discs sucks. even though its a small cost compared to what the dev's of the software and firmwares have made, all i'll wind up with is a working copy of splintercell (original, not 2 or 3 even ) on the 360. its not like i needed that game on 360, but kreon mentioned we'd have to test it, so i figured i would. just without success. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) i'm sure someone will figure it out. then maybe i'll try another disc. then i'll just have to dig out the rest of my originals and find one worth playing on the 360.

I can confirm that you can crossflash the TS-H352C with the kreon firmware. It works very well. I had to run the flash program from a command prompt like this "sfdnwin.exe -nocheck" for it to be able to crossflash it. The TS-H352C's are harder to find than the SH-D162C's though. But if you already have one, then your in luck!
PS: THANK YOU KREON!! Very nice work!

My 11th grade english teacher once said "there are no stupid questions - only stupid people who ask them"
Keeping that in mind I have a question that will probably be a no-brainer to most of you but I dont know the answer:
I have a Hitachi drive (47 I think) flashed with OPA's 2.1 firmware. Will my drive be able to read Xtreme stealth 3.0 type backups? I know my firmware doesnt use the stealth features per se - but I dont know if stealth images are readable by my drive and FW or whether they will error out.
My hope is that I can make these images in anticipation of the day when stealth FW is available for my drive - and hopefully in the meantime my current FW will be able to read the images ( not taking advantage of the stealth features ... PFI, correct video partition, etc...)
Cheers and thanks for the info!

I too can confirm that there are other drives other than the original SH-D162C that use the exact same hardware. The Toshiba SD-M2012C is also the exact same drive and can be crossflashed using the -NOCHECK option in sfdnwin. I've made several working backups using Kreon's previous firmwares and my TS-H943 read Security Sectors. Unfortunately, this drive is just about as hard to find as the other Samsung drives.

I'm trying to do a backup of my backup Dead rising and Ghost recon, now with Dead rising it starts and then prompt's for the SSbin error and say can't extract and stops the extraction process.
Why is this, Also Ghost recon says can't find video and will not extract when trying to create a complete stealth rip.
Hope this sort of makes sense, I thought making a backup of a backup would be easy.
My Hardware and software I'm using:
Samsung SH-D162C drive v0.8

There is a problem with the extraction of SS files with XBOX1 games using the SH-D162C with the 0.8 firmware.
To fix it, hexedit the extracted ss.bin and zero out bytes 0200 - 02D0 (excluding byte 02D0). Merge the ss back in burn.

could be a few different solutions. maybe relock the drive. reboot the computer. reflash the drive. uninstall the drive from your device manager then reboot. the drives not broke. i had a similiar problem and just had to reflash it. then it was fine again. but those are some other options that may work. i'd try relocking it first.

WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED
Any talk of making multiple backups from other backups (no cute excuses like , its for the neighbour/friend who legally owns the copy). If your backup is damaged re-rip the original having disposed of the damaged one. You are legally (in most places not all) allowed one back up of a game you legally own. The staff here are only too well aware of why people want to make multiple backups and its not for legal reasons so it stays away from the posts in here.

are you using Schtrom 2.1? If that is the case then you just disregard the message (in fact it is documented earlier in this post) since schtrom assumes you are still on fw 0.6.
In fact since you are on FW 0.8 your image will be ok (and will include the ss.bin).
Other option with sh-d162c is to use Xbox360 Backup Creator which is just as good. It is the evolution of Drive tools and even include a burning engine ( and no error message)
I have done backup with both on fw 0.8 and they both work.

Like I said, I am receiving an error message, which I will gladly ignore, but the program does not continue extracting....it just haults and does NOT extract anything. I just was wondering if it was this game alone, or if it is my system/user error. I recently re-installed windows, hopefully there aren't any system requirments for this program that I don't have installed.

Can someone answer how the custom commands are made ?
Is it with dvdinfopro ?

QUOTE(patricksull @ Sep 16 2006, 12:18 PM)

Like I said, I am receiving an error message, which I will gladly ignore, but the program does not continue extracting....it just haults and does NOT extract anything. I just was wondering if it was this game alone, or if it is my system/user error. I recently re-installed windows, hopefully there aren't any system requirments for this program that I don't have installed.
as a first step I would try Xbox360 Backup Creator, it has worked perfectly for me on X360 games.
@Davbere. I haven't heard much about using dvdinfopro with the sh-162c. Sorry for not being able to help. Most user of the 162c seems to use more integrated solution such as Xbox360 Backup Creatoror schtrom.

Sorry for bumping but this is urgent.
I live in the us and I need to know
-what drives are available for flashing
-what sites I can buy them from (which do not require shipping prices)
-and if the site is reliable.
thanks. I really wish the firmware would have came out with a more popular drive though :-/ please AIM me at Shad0wlag as soon as you can or reply, I am in a crises here and if I don't find an easier way to burn my games rather than opening up my 360 I am in a world of trouble. Thanks for taking time to read this.

Thinking about getting the SH-D162C from overseas. Anyone have any issues with ordering from overseas?
How long does it usually take?

check this guy
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...47622&st=15
he's fairly new, with no reps. but sounds legit. someones gonna have to be the first buyer.
gonna cost 50-60 per drive due to shipping.

QUOTE(patricksull @ Sep 16 2006, 01:26 AM)

Has anyone successfully backed up Dead Rising using THIS method? I can successfully backup the game with 0.6 firmware, and using ss files stored on my pc from an earlier extraction, but if I use 0.8 firmware, no go-just an error that the ss files cannot be extracted, and the program haults.
I am having the same issue. I ignored the error but the program must have halted. I came back about 4 hours later. (This was on Kameo). I will try xbox360 backup creator I guess. And play around with this some more later.
I also have to keep Unequipping the drive from device manager after it fails as it will not recognize the disk. Unequipp and reboot fixes the problem though. I think I will reflash the drive again, can't hurt.

if it helps
on xbox backup creator, take speed boost (off) & select your drive.
it fixed some problems i was having with ripping.

Try an external enclosure for 5.25" drives. Link: http://www.newegg.co...;SubCategory=92
Be sure to buy a decent one though; I hear that some cheap ones stop working after a few months of use.

Reply: SH-D162C/TS-H352C drives are compatible with Kreon's FW. The U.S. is completely sold out of those drives. It'll be easier to find them overseas. eBay would be the most reliable.

Was thinking about getting one , but don't seem worth it. Drive only cost £14 , external enclosures seem to be £25-30. Enclosure costs more than the drive

I have problem....
My Samsung SH-D162C flashed firmware "SH-D162C_TS04_XB360_KREON_V060.bin"
Now, sfdnwin.exe not reflash DVD-ROM with SH-D162C_TS04_XB360_KREON_V080.bin and says:
"This firmware is not compability with the selected drive. Contact you system manufactured for information on firmware upadates avaiable for this drive"
Not reflash and with firmware:
SH-D162C_TS00.bin
SH-D162C_TS01.bin
SH-D162C_TS02.bin
SH-D162C_TS03.bin
SH-D162C_TS04.bin
SH-D162C_TS04_XB360_KREON_V060.bin
What the problem, help me!!!
PS sfdnwin.exe -nocheck not worked

I too can confirm that there are other drives other than the original SH-D162C that use the exact same hardware. The Toshiba SD-M2012C is also the exact same drive and can be crossflashed using the -NOCHECK option in sfdnwin. I've made several working backups using Kreon's previous firmwares and my TS-H943 read Security Sectors. Unfortunately, this drive is just about as hard to find as the other Samsung drives.
This is a good indication the above is true: http://hijacker.rpc1...?path=SH-D162C/
I bought this drive for $60.90 shipped here: http://www.techresel...ducts_id=282140
They are located in New York somewhere & accept Paypal.
Worth a shot.
