ok i just turned on my 360 after doing the firmware hack on my hitachi 47d and i got 2 red lights to the left of the circle. i turned it off and let it cool down overnight, turned it back on and still 2 red lights!?! what should i do??
Check all the cables are connected.
I exoect you left the power of the dvd drive or something like that...
-
it goes on for a second , like its overheating ro something. it worked right away after i plugged it back in, but after i restarted it twice it stopped, now it does the red light thing about 3 seconds after startup
-
Hey i just turned it on again and i dont know if it makes a difference but now the two red lights go on and the fans speed up alot and the dvd tray wont eject neone know what this means>?
-
It's overheating - Make sure the screws holding the heatsink on are as tight as they can go, same happened to me, that fixed it

-
took it apart again and retightened the heatsinks, nothin, still the two red lights...?
-
Make sure that you have no screws on there (take them all off Yes even the torx 7 ones!)
I had this same problem and its a combination of the screws and the balance. Turn it Vertical and horizontal making sure you hear the balance click keep doing it like 15 times, but dont shake it. You will eventually get it working.
Also make sure the sata cable is snug as well as the power to the dvd drive.
Now screw everything back together.

your awsme man, i switched some of the screws around and whala it works again, u just saved me , oh idk, 500 bucks, thanks alot everyone. i have one more question thoguh, since i voided the waranty, is there any way MS will repair it in the future if i pay them the 130 dollars? thnx
-
Be sure that you put the white cover (connected to the fan and leads to the board) back on, that you may have removed and ensure it is on right!
-
not sure why you would remove the heat sink screws.. I only took out the 6 long screws that hold the top plastic part of the case together with the rest of the unit. hell I never put those back in so I can easily take it all apart when flashing other drives.
I never touched the heatsink screws or anything else..
removing all the screws just to get to the DVD drive is not neccessary... that would be like disassembling your car engine to drain the oil.... just remove the parts that need to be removed..

your best luck in repairing it would be to buy a working 360 MOBO off the BST area and make sure the seller gives you the original DVD key that's matched with the MOBO. take that key and flash it to your DVD drive and there ya go.. a fixed 360 for likely under $150.. I've seen MOBOs going for $80 in the BST area.
-
aaaah you are going to wish you had a backup when you end up with a nice big dvd drive shaped brick.....Thats what happened to me. Luckily i switched them round at argos and got a new sammy hehehe.
-
how do i keep seeing posts of people not keeping a copy of the original firmware... it says to make VAST AMOUNTS OF COPIES so you dont lose them.
i put mine in like 5 different spots just to be sure, because without it... youre pretty fucked.
sucks bro
-
why can i get the firmware from someone with the same drive and mobo as me?

it wont matter without the key.

i was just wondering about one of my other questions too though, i understand that if your warantys up MS charges you 130 dollars to fix your console, what if your warrantys void now like mine? if i ship it to them and pay 130 dollars would they fix it if somehting happened to it? thnx

once the warranty sticker ( next to the ring of light) under the faceplate is removed, etc they will not fix it for you even if you offer to pay. so you are sol.
Since you didnt keep a backup of your firmware you are sol
so...Son you are now SHIT OF OUT LUCK.
I would ebay your 360 for a new one.... retail fraud is illegal dont go exchanging them at the store...

what is it for though if i had a sucessful flash, is there more likely of a chance the drive will break if i have the extreme firmware? THNX
If your drive is working at the moment then just hook it back up to your computer and extract your key! The only way you are srewed is if it f%$#s up and don't have your key. so get to it and make a new copy.
-
just get a damn Samsung and be done with all the crap with Hitachi nightmares..
as long as you have the original DVD Key, you can copy it over to a new Samsung and you're good to go..
as for other things going out on the 360.. Heat appears to be the main culprit... get one of those Nyko Intercoolers for $20 which pulls more air through the unit or if you want to reall go all out get one of
those Water Coolers from www.koolance.com for approx. $380.
I'm likely going to go with a Water Cooler in a few months with a Crystal Clear Case....
-
your dvd key is specific to your xbox. In order to replace a broken drive you must have this key or your x360 is dead . Hence the reason why you should make a backup of your key and copy it to a safe place IE:) a cd and a few places on computer , just to be safe.

It's absolutely pathetic that there's even a potential market for Xbox 360 water cooling. When you buy a console, it's supposed to work...without the need of any extra hardware.

it's not pathetic.. just a different and better way of pulling the heat off the CPU and GPU... MS is to blame for this shit.. They rushed to get the 360 out the door and equipped it with a piss poor cooling system.
Within 5 minutes of operation, the CPU and GPU could be used as a convection oven. There's better cooling on my Abit mobo with heat pipes and larger airfins for cooling..
I can't believe they used a shitty aluminum heat sink on the GPU.. talk about cutting corners..
looking at the Koolance system, after install you actually free up more space with the cooling blocks. the only problem I have is where the inlet and outlet connectors are.. you can't use the 360 wireless adapter unless you use a USB extension cable and mount it somewhere else..
-
did you use a antistatic wrist strap? cuss you could shock your mobo with static or drive or any other device in your xbox 360 and then it wont work. always use antistatic wrist strap so you dont damage your stuff. safety first
