Xbox360 SS Merger v1.6-- Posted by XanTium on June 8 00:52 EST
HellDoc released a new version of Xbox360 SS Merger(info) - a GUI tool that allows you to easily insert the Security Sectors (SS) on raw dumps made both the 'wxRipper(info)'-way (hot-swap with opened PC DVD drive and wxRipper software) and the 'xtreme'-way (with original Xbox 360 DVD drive on PC and special bios).

What's new/fixed:
* Added a way to report a database game entry as working/non working and add comments/instruction.
* Added a better way to enter game in the database (with video region and geographical region)

Instructions:

Quote

How To:
1 - Make sure you have .Net Framework 2 installed.
2 - Browse for the iso.
3 - Hit Detect.
4 - If there's already a online entry for this iso, the Game Name combo box will fill up. If nothing appear it means that no one submitted information for this iso.
5 - If you select a game in the combo box, all settings should already be fine, else, make the settings as it should be.
6 - Select the SS file.
7 - If you selected an game name in the combo box and the md5 checkboxes are red it mean that you are not using the recommended SS. Green mean that you selected the right SS.
8 - Hit merge.
9 - Burn the .dvd with CloneCD
10 - If the iso you just made is working and was not found in the database, hit Add to database. Enter the game name, video region and geographical location. It will allow the users to use your settings.
11 - Donate via paypal to helldoc AT gmail D0t com as i'm paying for the database hosting and the bandwith and still do not own a 360...

Iso splitter instruction:
This should be pretty straigtfoward,
1 - select your iso file (Must be a complete iso with video partition).
2 - hit xbox 360 or xbox depending on your iso.
3 - select what you want to extract (Extraction the game partion will create a xtreme type of iso)
4 - Hit split and wait.

Add comments / Report as Working or non working:
1 - Select the iso
2 - Click yes to calculate the iso md5 and check in the database for this md5.
3 - You can read the comments in the box to the right.
4 - Click comment to add a comment.
5 - Ensure that the game name in the new dialog is the good one.
6 - Enter you comment.
7 - Enter your name (optional).
8 - Click Workin or non-working if the tested this iso with the current setting.
9 - Click Post

[monty burns voice]

 Excellent

One minor issue I've found - trying running this from a network drive. Some .net Framework error occurs.

If ran locally no probs though.

Great Application, I also use this all the time.

One slight feature I wouldn't mind seeing is the MD5 checksum to show if the SS code has already been applied to the ISO.

e.g.
GRAW (PAL) Patched  MD5 #1234567890     READY TO BURN
GRAW (PAL) Raw Iso Needs SS code #246813579        NOT BURNABLE

The MD5 changes when the SS is applied, so couldn't this be utilised?

I've noticed that if I try to update the database with an ISO WITHOUT the SS applied to inform people this that it needs patching prior to burning, The software shouts and asks for the SS details.

You have to load the ISO into the software to patch anyways, its just a case if uploading the details PRIOR and POST patching, It could also be used to ensure the ISO you extracted is correctly done by offering another checksum during the process

Or is it just me ?

not just you!! first day I started using this I was thinking the same thing. I was planning on just building new md5's and publishing them as "game name PATCHED" but never got around to doing it.

This would definetly help though, if you rip a lot of games, then later go back an patch some, then again go back later and try patching again you would know if you had an already patched image or just a bad rip from the begining.

so if I understood right for us poor Hitachi user we cant use SS merger upto now since it works with the proper version of the xtreme firmware right ? or am I confusing it with KDX ?

good job

Wxripper has nothing to do with the firmware hack. It's a utility to rip your games using a standard PC dvd drive. It doesn't matter what drive you have in your xbox. Hell, you don't even need to own an one.

Hi HellDoc  (if he consults this thread) great work on this app, it's very much apreciated, i know this might sound as a minor thing but there's a small request i'm wondering if you can add.

- A minimise button

not very complicated i hope but it would help a lot, Thanks for your time and effort.

neomod I wasnt asking about Wxripper but about SS Merger. I saw in another post that either SS merger or KDX work only with the xtreme proper firmware image of the toshiba to input the SS so was wondering if maybe and when the Hitachi firmware is released we need to wait for an appropriate software to use in combination with the firmware.

I think your confusing KDX and Wxripper

KDX is for your drive firmware, to extract and patch the key of your drive

Wxripper is to patch the games with the security sector proper to the game (each game has it's own security sector), games have security sectors according to their region

hope this helps with the confusion

OK. My mistake. I read that wrong. To answer your question then...

SS Merger has nothing to do with what drive you use. It will patch the security sectors into an image reagardless of how you got the SS or how the game was ripped.

The KDX has nothing to do with security sectors. that program is used to patch your dvd drive key into the extreme firmware so that your particular drive will work in your system after it's patched. And yes, you do have to use the xtreme_proper FW because the original xtreme FW will not work properly with KDX but again, this has nothing to do with the SS.

So you see, you're comparing apples and oranges.

Hey I keep getting "Error connection to the database :" followed by half a screen of debug code.  Is the central server down or something, or is it just me ?

Cheers,
Muz

do you guys have .NET framework 2.0 installed? check in your "Add/Remove Programs" in control panel.

and make sure it's not beta, that's what my first guess would be

.Net framework is required to run applications created in Visual Studio .Net. It's funny, every PC I have has .Net installed on it (maybe because I do .Net programming lol). I don't see a single reason why people wouldn't have it installed (unless it somehow messes up your computer, but that is very rare). It is delivered via Windows Update as an optional update after all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

This software requires (3) Outbound TCP ports to be open. I know, 3~!

- 139 (Netbios?)
- 445 (MS Active Directory, Windows Share?)
- 1433 (MS SQL)

EDIT: The author should update the program to communicate outbound on port 80, and have a server side script negotiate with the database, etc. That way users wouldn't need to worry about firewalls... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Thanks for the tip.  I'm personally not using a firewall, but have opened up those ports on the ADSL router..still no cigar, get the same database connection error.  I actually didn't think opening up the ports would make a diff if Im the one inititating the outbound connection.

I'm am supised this thing connects directly to the database and not via a web service.  Very strange for an internet enabled app as you say.

Is there an alternative to get the ss.bin files from this databse manually ?

Cheers,
Muz

Some of us are anal-retentive about firewalls, and close outbound ports as well as inbound ports  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)  Better firewalls will even let you filter by application, instead of raw tcp ports, but we won't go there right now.

As far as I can tell, the DB is just to give you MD5 information. Hosting the ss.bin itself would be risky since it is *probably* illegal to do so (no one has ever really tested this sort of thing in a US court).

by the looks of it , it definatly looks like a firewall issue. I cant do anything about it , because im in college and the firewall blocks almost anything .
If its not to much effort the best thing to do would be to make it work through port 80.

Having framework 2 installed doesnt seem like a big problem. Every computer should have it . Since its windows update.

When i get some time i will try and rip some xbox1 games and update them into the database. 1 question though , where can i select what region they are .

But as soon as i get home . which is in three weeks i will download some "legal  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) " torrents . and upload all of the md5 sums to the database.

Does anyone feel like already startin to update torrent md5s?

Very impressive application and idea.

My only suggestion would be for there to be an option to download the SS file off the database.  The files are quite small (2 kB) and this would make the application more user friendly.  Especially if you don't have the needed file and are not sure where to get it.

Thank you!
