You are so right ...
However iam also getting tired of peeps that dont want to read or search just like the rest does.

You are absolutely right. I've been browsing these forums for quite some time now and because of all the flamers I hardly ever post. Not even when I used to use my brother's account before I got my computer back and signed up for my own account, and now I have what 3 or 4 posts? There is no 1 ultimate source for all the information required to achieve success in this hack. I've seen numerous posts on different message boards about people that destroyed their drive by doing this hack improperly, so people see shit like that and want to ask questions about things that haven't been clarified to them to prevent it from happening to them as well. Now I understand that there ARE a lot of people who do end up asking something that was already asked and clarified 3 pages ago in the same thread and there is a search function... but hell, you can't even find exactly what you're looking for with the search function unless you know word for word what to type in the search. I agree with people who flame to a minor extent that when people who know absolutely nothing start to ask questions before reading ANYTHING but instead of wasting keystrokes tearing people a new one, point them in the right direction. That's all you can really do to keep the forums civil until theres a complete tutorial pinned.

Its been a real flame fest on this forum the past week or so. Somebody jumps on here and asks a few simple questions and instead of getting easy answers, you guys are actually taking the time to bite their head off with more text that it would have taken you to answer their question in the first place.
I have managed to get it all figured out and I've been enjoying my backups on my samsung x360 for a couple of days now. But I didn't find all the info that I needed in one place
No its not all in the readme
No its not all in the few scarce tutorials scattered across the web.
I learned by piecing all the tiny bits of scattered material and asking questions and getting my responses through gritted teeth while enduring the typical responses:
"why don't you read first...."
"hey, see that little green button that says search in the top right..."
"read the readme..."
"find a tutorial..."
"If you need help with this then maybe you shouldn't be flashing your firmware!..."
There are lots of things that I had to search long and hard to find like how to set the book type of my Sony drive.
It has nothing to do with automatically knowing how to accomplish this or my computer knowledge. I've been working in the computer industry for over 15 years and I'm an MCSE+I. I've modded over 300 xbox 1's and over 100 ps2 with a few PSP's and DS's. My Gamecube is modded and I have a ton of experience with cell phones and smart phones and PDA's with different mods.
I tell you all this because I'm not a Noob and I'm not a beginner, I just had a few questions that only experience could answer. I feel that I could help out some beginners with the experience that I've gained this last week now that I've actually done it.
Lets just all take a breath and calm down and see if we can all help eachother to progress the scene. I understand if your pissed because you have a Hitachi drive but stay off the boards then if you your just gunna snap at every noob that asks a question!
Just remember, you don't HAVE to respond to the post. If you just want to be a dick then go ahead but I'd rather you just stay off the forums!
I'm sorry but with all the experience and you couldn't figure out a simple firmware upgrade and making a backup game?..I did not ask one single question and managed to do figure out, all it took is a lot of reading and trial and error mistakes. The fact is most of you want a compelte tutorial handed to you on a gold platter to make as simple as possible.
The people doing the real hacking and creating these great apps don't have time for that, there is enough documentation out already, and if you can't figure it out then stop bitching about people not helping you and pay someone smarter then you to do it for you.

Don't assume anything. Nowhere in my post did I say I couldn't figure out how to flash my firmware.
My ONE question was about the book type setting and all hell broke loose when I asked about it.
It sounds like now you're the one not reading at this point. I didn't say anything about the people who are creating "these great apps" or the people creating the firmware asking or answering ANYTHING. I'm talking about those people who have spent the time and gained the experience necessary, just taking the time to answer some questions.
Its not really that hard is it? You obviously have enough time to write up two paragraphs giving the reasons for NOT answering questions. Do you see the complete lack of reasoning in your response?

what is your bitsetting question?

why the second account? Did you get banned for some reason
When i quit the scene after we cracked the xbox i stopped using it.

Did the original poster SHARE his findings?
I've tried to write down my own successes and stumbles as I go along so anybody behind me with the same problems might get help.
And I'm not even where YOU are. I cant get the 360 drive working in windows without hanging the computer so I cant get my proper SS bin from my nordic version of PGR3. I've burnt a coaster with the wrong PAL SS bin because whoever keeps putting PAL SS bins on the net doesnt understand that there are SEVERAL versions of PAL games out there.
My stumbles so far
-getting the drive to be flashable with the promise and via sata chipsets = resolved
-figuring out why my hex editor makes the saved firmware file several bytes longer = resolved
-opening several dvd-rom drives to find one that works with wxripper = resolved
-getting the 360 drive to work under windows = unresolved
-acquiring the CORRECT SS file for my nordic PGR3 = unresolved
-getting the first succesful working backup to run on my 360 = unresolved
Halfway baby.. YEAH. Only 3 days I've been at it.

If your PC hangs at boot with the xbox drive connected try ejecting the tray while it is frozen...works for me!

Thanks I tried it before. Connected to either chipset it wont open! Just blinks the center of the 360 ring of light a couple times.
Tried both remote and the drive button.
I read in another forum the SIL 3114 will let me use it in windows.. hehe one chipset lets me do DOS and the other windows. Time to go shopping again.
-
WOOO I got a step further. Somebody at xbh forum told me to turn on the 360 during/before boot but I did something different still. After flashing to xtrm0800.bin I rebooted the PC but DID NOT reboot the 360.
Is this the way youre supposed to do it? Now the 360 has a blinking light in the center of the ring of light and the drive is visible in windows? Success? Wrong?
guy below: nowhere in the official readme does it say what the blinking light is, whether we turn off the 360 before or after the PC, in windows, whatever. SATA is a hotswap standard there is no reason to not assume it cannot be hotswapped other than a chipset limitation such as the ICH5. Help or dont post.

Its okay that its blinking. You only need the xbox360 to power the drive. It's most likely pissed that the a/v connector isn't plugged in.
If the drive is seen in windows and its powered by the box then you should be just fine.
-
Ok thx Kafluke, I do have the av plugged in but not to a TV its just hanging out the back of the 360. I just opened the tray, blinking stopped, hit the custom commands into dvdinfopro (changing the 11th-in-order command accordingly) then saved the hexadecimal file to a 2048 (default) size .bin.
Now to rerip the game in wxripper (since I do not know if you can RE-PATCH the original I ripped that I already patched with the wrong SS using SS merger 1.3. See theres another unanswered question).
Then to patch with my own collected SS file.

I could not agree more it is new and not conveniently documented yet and it can be frustrating hitting stumbling blocks people need to have a little consideration a lot of the jackasses doing that don’t even know the answerers

Uhoh went to reflash my drive back to xtreme with my key and mtkflash brings up the usual list 1 is my dvddrive and 2 is VIASATA with the drive. I hit 2 and it gives something like E400 slave A0 and just sits there.
It has never done this before and I'm afraid it has something to do with me having used the drive when the light was blinking.
I tried hard power off both PC and 360 after turning them both off via the remote and atx power, but I cant seem to get the flash process going again.
edit: WHEW!
I did like a good boy and pulled out all my other ide devices, used the floppy to boot and was able to flash again.
Something weird happened there after I ran the drive in windows for the first time using the 0800 firmware. Another example of something unexpected!
