Post by: calvin940 on May 18, 2006, 05:35:00 AM
For those that have successfully booted a self ripped game using the xtreme methods, please post:

1) Motherboard (or SATA PCI card) - Brand and Model (used for reading/writing TS DVD flash)
2) DVD Burner - Brand and Model
3) Media Brand and description
4)Xbox 360 Drive and FW

This would help us others that are having no luck getthing them to boot.

THanks
Calvin

1)mobo: Gigabyte GA 81945PL - G ( ICH7 Chipset )
2) Liteon SHW-160P6S
3)Verbatim DVD+R DL 8X 8.5GB 5 pack from Bestbuy @ 2.5X CloneCD.

This took me pretty much all day yesterday to get working, first I had to modify MTKFlash to work with the ICH7 chipset. Then I had to buy a floppy drive and some floppies. I used KDX1.5-by-F360TEAM (Thanks for the great tool guys, I probably did it wrong) but it did not work for me, I had to manually copy over the firmware Security sector to the 360 DVD drive Xtreme firmware. Once I did that I have now copied 2 games from the xbox drive to my computer and I have COD 2 running as a backup right now. This is a little tricky as a hack because of the SATA chipset support for MTKFlash but its much easier then soldering in a modchip. Does what i want it to, would only recommend this mod for people that know what they are getting into. Thanks to everyone that has created tutorials, without you I would never have gotton mine to work. Also lots of thanks to the fireware modders.

1.)  Dell Optiplex its either a 160 or 170L cant remember its at work.
2.)  NEC ND-3540A Firmware 1.04
3.)  Verbatim DVD+R DL RW 20 Pack from Best Buy 2.4X 8.5 Gb.

These discs are RW and I didnt realize it when I bought them.  Purple and Yellow label.  These discs worked fine for 3 or 4 days and today I ejected a disc in the middle of a game and now they wont boot unless I get lucky.  I imagine it has to be the media because it worked before.  The only way I can get them to boot is to unplug the DVD drive completely and then plug it back in.

2) HP dvd530i (flashed with with a Sony DRU-700A bios)
3) El cheapo DYNEX 5pack DVD+DL from Best Buy.

Rip process went great.

First burn at 2.4x of Perfect Dark Zero ran great no problems.
Subsequent two discs I tried would not work at 2.4x.
Changed CloneCD to 1x burn and discs ran like a champ!

My card is the link below:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16815124022

These are the drivers I used:

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageI...80&SubCatID=117

This is the edited MTKFLASH that I used:

http://rapidshare.de/files/20676748/MTKFLASHvia.zip.html

I think this is the cheapest way to get it working if you don't have a motherboard that works!

My burner is the MD-16xdvd9-8x from www.mdmm.com

Shuttle SN25P rev2 (Nforce4 Ultra)
NEC 3540A w/ modified 1W6 firmware
Verbatim 8X +R DL media

No problems flashing using the Nforce4 version of MTKFlash on SATA channel 1.
No problems ripping using DVDinfopro/ISOBuster (at the time, the 360 drive was hooked up to SATA channel 3)
No problems burning with CloneCD. I did try the DVD Decrypter method for a couple of my rips, but I got the "invalid" image error, even though these same images worked fine when burned with CloneCD.

I've been burning @ 2.4x, though I tried one of my games @ 4x, and couldn't notice any difference. I'm burning a game @ 8x to see if the media and/or my Xbox can take it.

What speeds have everyone been burning at?

1. Intel d865perl mobo (2x onboard SATA)
2. LiteOn DVDRW SOHW-1633S
3. Verbatim DVD+R DL (up to 6x speed) Burned at 2.4x with DVDdecrypter
xp pro sp2

The d865perl board would read/write the TS firmware (using mtkflash from DOS 5 floppy) & extract the disc SS from the 360(using DVDinfopro) but the unlock command (from dvdinfopro) simply resulted in 'black cd' within isobuster.  The LiteOn works w/ wxripper but the drive has to be taken apart.  A paper clip in the emergency eject hole creates an eject command within the drive. The two retail DL DVDs I had to find the magic number were 'The Cat in The Hat' (Mike Myers) & 'Finding Nemo' .  Patched game iso w/ ss.bin using ss merger 1.3 (1.5 is current ver.)
Burned at 2.4x using this guide`http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=514437

Don't forget to set the layer break!  If your properly ripped, patched (ss.bin) & burned game does not work, you have forgotten this setting in DVD decrypter.

mobo BIOS Changes necessary to enable the 360 drive:
boot to bios & Select: advanced, drive configuration,
ATA/IDE Configuration [Legacy]
Legacy IDE Channels [SATA P0/P1, PATA Pri]    (PATA enabled for IDE HD)
PCI IDE Bus Master [Enabled]
Hard Disk Pre-Delay [Disabled]
f10 save and exit

My working burner is an LG "super-multi"  GSA-4120B @ 2.4X
Burned Verbatim DVD+RL 8.5 GB with nothing but DVD Decrypter (Layer break and Bit settings changed)

Backed up my originals and it works better than before esp. Oblivion, no more DRE or lockups...can you believe that crap.....my drive is operates with less racket now.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Very happy indeed.

Also flashed my Sammy with and OLD ASS Chaintech mobo with an Intel Chipset (didnt even have USB 2.0)and the PPA/Via 42XXL chipset sata card from Tiger. I used the MTKFLASHvia executable and it worked like a champ.

NO DRIVER UPDATING, NO RAID OR FANCY MOBO, NO EXTRA DRIVES, JUST A 3 1/2 FLOPPY  ... FLASHED IT WITH SOME PLAIN OLD JUNK, EXCEPT FOR THE SATA CARD.

tHANKS to all the peeps who contribute to these boards, you know who you are.

I have been hoping to see someone using this burner as it is the same one I have. Are you using the 1.07 firmware?
Now I just have to get ahold of a xbox 360 with the TS drive : )

burned first backup today =)

Mobo: MSI K8T-NEO (MS 6702) w/ VIA VT8237
Burner: Sony DRU-820a
Media: Verbatim 8x DVD+DL (burned @ 2.4x)

Flashed using Memorex 512MB USB FDD (highly recommend using one of these usb FDD's) Tried multiple burns with Fuji/Ritek media without success, thought I had a bad flash, everything seems fine with Verbatim media.  Will do more testing this weekend =)

1) Intel 915P Motherboard
2) Liteon 1693S 16X DVD±RW
3) Verbatim 2.4x and Memorex 2.4x

Verbatim worked great with 5 different games no issues.  With the Memorex I had problems.  First 3 burns got DDE errors when trying to boot the game.  I then used my laptop that has an LG DVD Dual Layer burner and the very first burn with Memorex media worked great.

So the actual BURNER can be an issue for everyone that is getting DDE's.  Memorex's are Ritek D01 discs.

I have to add that the drive has to be on SATA port 1 and the xbox powered up so the BIOS detects the drive else MTKFLASH will just hang.

1) PCI - 2 port sata board (Ali m5283 chipset)
2) NEC-2510A (Maddog 2.F8 firmware, 2.F9 does not have Ritek D01 support!)
3) Memorex +R DL (Ritek D01)

My first burn turned out to be an expensive coaster but i later found out that my DVD-writer's firmware did not support the media. I upgraded the firmware (well downgraded in my case because the newer firmware did not support this media for some odd reason), and the second burn was quite successful. It seems like a lot of people are complaining about MEMOREX dual layer media, but I believe its that there current firmwares or dvd-writers are not supporting it. Upgrade your firmware and then try the burn again. Also double check on the web which firmwares (orignal or modified) will support your dual layered media.

drive/fw: NEC ND 4551 with DEE's 1-X3 RPC1 mod firmware
media: Memorex 2.4x @ 2.4x burn
memory stick: Samsung Mighty Drive 1GB

working fine so far

more notes
used the memory stick package and the nforce mtk version included with no further modification.
rebooted after read and before write of drive but dont know that it was necessary, patched firmware on second pc from memstick to avoid re-config of main pc until completion.

didn't get the right disassemble tutorial; I used the complete disassembly one and had my processor heat pipes loosened before i realized i had screwed up. So for anyone else, just remove the six long torx screws, no others needed for just a firmware mod.

I also built the case release cut-outs from a plastic 50pack cd cover and they worked like a champ for releasing the rear case clips.

Did you have to use any certain firmware for that dvd drive or burn as is?  I am trying to find specific information regarding this bitsetting and what not and not having much success.  My drive is updated to the newest firmware from NEC, but not sure if thats ok or if i need a hacked firmware to burn these images.  Can you let me know which you used and were successful with?  Thanks.

First Setup:

1. MSI K8T NEO-FISR
2. NEC ND-2510A
3. Verbatims 2.4x DVD+R DL

Copied games fine if I modified the wxripper layout to skip the first 3 batches of sectors.  Didn't like doing that so I tried the below config and it worked perfectly.

Second Setup:

1. MSI K8T NEO-FISR
2. LITE-ON SHW-160P6S
3. Verbatims 2.4x DVD+R DL

Works perfectly on every game tried (bf2, outfit, burnout, graw, perfect dark, king kong -> all backups or originals).  So far it reads every sector from every disc with no errors or mods to the layout for wxripper.

Is there anyway to ensure that my booktype is being set correctly?

Mobo: P4P800E-DLX - No problems.

Burner: LG GSA-4167B - DVDInfoPro does not like this drive, used Nero CD/DVD-Speed for bitsetting

Media: FujiFilm 2.4x - Having problems with this media, extremely long load times and sometimes games are not recognized. Ordered some Verbatim's and I will followup once they arrive that it was the media and not my burner causing the disc reading issues.

Used Modeb 2 wire trick to boot to windows to flash. No problems recognizeing in XP with LATEST Via XP drivers (do not install the raid controller softwrae. Just drivers.)

Booted Burnout Revenge from dash, no soft boot tricks at all.

Exact same image burned with NEC ND-3540A gave error, soft boot tricks would not work. Took everyone's advice and went to Best Buy and got the Pioneer drive. Save your money and get it from NewEgg. It's half the cost there if you are willing to wait.

Pertaining to the LiteOn SOHW series...are people using the stock firmware for burning success or are they updating to anything special?

Case and point, I've got a SOHW-1693S updated with firmware from here :

http://codeguys.rpc1....patched-cf.rar

The readme states:

Code Guys xCxx Quality Patched 3S Firmware

xCxx stands for:
x  Model code
C  OEM code = Code Guys firmware
x  Code Guys version number (0..9, A..Z)
x  Base version number (B for xx0B etc.)

This firmware has been design to improve the quality of burns when using +/-R media at 6x to 16x burn speeds. It uses a WOPC (Walking Optimum Power Control) technique that adjusts the OPC at fixed points during the burn.

Versions marked with "sonyid" have the drive name changed to match that of the Sony DRU-700A and are not based on the Sony VYxx firmwares.  Aside from the difference in the drive name, the "sonyid" versions are identical to the regular versions.  These "sonyid" versions can be useful if you have locked OEM software that will work only if your drive bears the Sony name.

This firmware is not designed to allow you to overclock your media past the manufactures rating. In fact it requires you to use your media at the limits imposed by this firmware. Changing the write speeds of media in this firmware will seriously limit the firmwares capabilities to improve quality. However should you decide to overclock media anyway, this firmware will still perform better than the stock firmware.

This firmware has already been crossflash patched for 1673S users, has a faster LED flash rate when burning and has the following read speed changes:

+R/-R = 16x
ROM/9 = 12x
+/-R9 = 8x

No media burn speeds or strategy changes have been changed.

This firmware doesn't appear to alter the setting of the booktype.  I'm not 100% positive of that, though.

Has anyone else used this firmware version?  If so, what results have you seen?  To be safe, should I just flash the stock/OEM firmware back?

Granted, I know I can check for myself at the expense of a DL blank...I'm just curious if anyone else has gotten results.

PS...I like boobs.

PSS...Apologies if I'm taking a figurative "dump" in someone else's thread.

Mobo:  Asus p4c800 deluxe using slax cd
burner:  pioneer dvr-108 flashed to dvr-108dx for auto bitsetting to dvd-rom (www.rpc1.com for info)
media:  verbatim at 2.4x
hitachi drive v46d

i used the slax cd to get into mode b and it didnt load the whole way it stopped saying somthing bout irq 5 so i reset and booted windows and it found the drive!

my first flash attempt went flawless no errors at all.

every backup boots perfect using the hd/av switch trick.

i think they work better then the originals

anyone know if the drive can read dvd+r dl burned at higher speeds?

The CodeGuys firmware is all I use In fact it works better then the Lite-On stock firmware.
Other people have reported good burns with the CodeGuys firmware for the SOHW series as
well that play flawless in the Hitachi drives. Its safe to stay with the Codeguys in my opinion. cool.gif

I have even used Omnipatcher using the recomended tweaks and a force DVD-Rom for +burns!
works great!

Hard Disk Pre-Delay [Disabled]
f10 save and exit

what firmware ver r u using. u r the only other one that i seen using that dvd burner

Dude I have the same mobo / chipset as you yet my pc will not detect my xbox 360 Samsung drive, can u tell me what u altered in the bios to get them machine to see your drive?

Not much really
Disabled the promise controller and used the VIA controller (the motherboard has two seperate raid controllers)  Make sure the VIA is set to IDE and not RAID.

On my flash, I started with my 360 on but with the TS-H943 not yet connected to my SATA controller and booted to DOS via my USB flash drive.  Once I was in DOS I connected the 360 drive to port 1 on the VIA controller and waited for a few seconds.  After running mtkflash it showed up right away in the selection menu.  Read flash with no probs using the stock mtkflash (no need for hex edits).  Once you have your DVD key extracted use the same process to reflash modified bin.

DFI Lanparty UT 250Gb (mobo) (Use SATA Port 3)
Pioneer 111D w/ Latest FW (came stock)
Office Depot DVD+R DL

Works everytime.  My Hitachi 360 reads the Office Depot brand DLs when played as a movie, but since I haven't flashed that one yet, I don't know that it would boot backups.  I have to do the soft reset trick though to get the movies to play in the Hit. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

1) Dell 400SC (Intel Server Mobo, Intel SATA) - Couldn't get VIA 6412 PCI SATA to work.
2) Pioneer 111d  FW 1.19
3) Verbatim DL+R @ 2.4x, Ritek @ 2.4x, Memorex (Ritek) @ 2.4x

Burned with DVD Decryptor. Hitachi 46.

Made a lot of coasters on using a Sony 500a and Sony 710a (both rebadged Lite-On) with OEM FW and hacked FW's. Tried everything CloneCD, several types of media, Verbatim etc, book settings, etc. Nothing worked, began to think I didn't do the Hitachi flash correctly. Finally broke down and bought a Pioneer 111d ($39 at NewEgg, free S/H), and now everything work. Sometime I need to use a reset trick on the 360 to get'em to boot, other time they boot from a cold-start.

Those of you pulling your hair out, buy a Pioneer.

MOBO: Intel 875P, which is a custom Intel board made for Dell and used in many of their systems a few years ago -- essetinally OEM version of Intel D875PBZ.

BURNER - NEC 3550A - $40 from NewEgg, including free shipping.

DISCS - Ridata 8.5GB 2.4X

XBOX Drive - Samsung

Could not get the XBOX to recoginze my backup disc (Perfect Dark, I only have 1 game at this point) if the dash was already up, but it will boot to the backup just fine.

BTW, I used Windows 2003 Server as it was the only box I had access to with SATA chipset, so if anyone else is wondering if the tools work with W2K3, it did for me!

What firmware did you used for the PC drive?

I have the same model 3202 3292 Memorex DVD+_DL 16X

Media : Memorex DVD+DL at 2.4x , DVD info says DVD+R DL - DVD-ROM

taken from the drive info page : The MRX-500N also supports a feature called "bitsetting." While the drive automatically sets the book type of DVD+R DL media to "DVD-ROM",

all i get is Unrecognized Disc , already have 3 dead discs  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I can confirm that Pioneer 111D WORKS with Samsung-Toshiba drive.
Seems like its the best pick for both Samsung-Toshiba and Hitachi drives

Mobo - Some crappy Dell MicroATX board with no SATA
SATA PCI card - The VIA6421L card from newegg
Burner - Lite-On SHW-16065
Media - Fujifilm (Best Buy currently has 15 packs for 24.99)
Burn speed - 2.4X
X360 Drive - Samsung ms25

100% booting on the Toshiba-Samsung drive. Plays almost as well as originals (some FMV stutter on a couple of games, LOTR BFME2 and N4S:MW). BTW, the Fuji discs perform better in my 360, than the Verbatims.

1) Motherboard = Abit AV8 ( using onboard SATA )
2) Burner = Pioneer 111d ( no booktype setting needed, original firmware 1.19 )
3) Media = Verbatim DVD+R DL, Burnt at X2.4 speed
4) Xbox DVD Drive = Hitachi 47d

I had a Plextor 750a, and tried to burn backups with it. The drive was unsucessful, just received my Pioneer 111d this morning. Installed it, burned the image and the backup worked instantly.

1) Motherboard = DFI PS82-BC/BL / PS83-BC/BL (used onboard SATA)
2) Burner = Pioneer 111d (upgraded to 1.23)
3) Media = Ridata (Ritek D01), burned at 2-2.4x using CloneCD
4) Xbox DVD Drive = Hitachi 47dh

Used GaryOPA 1.3 FW, not a hitch.... and not a single wasted disc, every disc boots fine, reads fine, and no booting issues (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

PC Motherboard: ECS nForce 3-A (nForce 3 chipset, with onboard SATA).
Used Slax boot CD to get into mode B.

Burner: Pioneer DVR-111D with TDB 1.23 fw.

Media: Verbatim DVD+R DL media ID = MKM00_   (_ = ?)
Burn speeds used: 2.4X and 4X.
(I was initially tempted to buy the Fuji's on sale at BB, that someone just reported success with, but the Verbatim dye is supposed to be good for long term reliability).

Xbox 360 DVD-ROM = Hitachi 47DJ with GaryOPA 1.3 fw.

POT: POT was originally 4.03; it is now 3.67, although may bump it to about 4 again, if that will help the laser significantly).

Result: All backups work fine and load quickly, with NO tricks required (assuming the POT setting doesn't make a difference in my case).

Are all Hitachi's the same drive (GDR-3120L) with different factory firmware versions, or is there actually a physical (hardware) difference between, for example, a 46D and a 47D or 47DJ?

Update; I raised my POT back to stock (factory) level (4.01, which is essentially the same as the actual 4.03 I received it with) and everything is still working great, NO tricks needed.
Hopefully this won't put additional strain on the OTHER components of the drive as it reads DVD+R DL media.

asus a8v deluxe mobo with via 8237 chipset.

detects samsung and hitatchi no problem.

tried an nec dvd dl writer and burnt games done in this burner only played in samsung drives.

i spent £20 on a new pioneer 111 and hey presto - every game works fine on all dvd drives (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i done my sons 360 a couple of week ago for his birthday and still going strong. my brother had an hitachi in his and that can be very tempremental.

::Works::

MB: Abit NFS7-S
SATA PCI Card: Syba SY-VIA-150 (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16815124022)
Drive: Toshiba-Samsung
Burner: NEC ND-2510 fw 2.18 booktype set to DVD-ROM (in external usb 2.0 case, not that it matters)
Media: Memorex
Bios: Xtreme 3.0

Disabled IDE and on-board SATA controller in bios before flashing. Powered up 360, then pc, then flashed. No hotswaps or anything necessary. Also, MAKE SURE you ground your 360 to your pc chassis. I figured I could get away without this. After being powered up for about 3 minutes, a very bad burning smell started coming from the SATA pci card and the pc shutdown by itself. I consider myself foolish, but lucky. No damage was done. After wrapping some speaker wire around both chassis, everything was fine.

Backups boot really fast and 10x quieter than original discs.

Good news sceners, I'm not sure if someone already posted this.  I have found out that the sami drive in the 360 with the 3.0 firmware patch is able to read dvd+r that it could not read before the most recent patch. I have a set of FujiFilm DL that I had which was used for movies and now I'm able to use them for game backups that it could not read before the 3.0 firmware.  Hope this help maybe some might try other blank media that could not be read before, but maybe now works after the 3.0 path.  Cheerios for now.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

i have a liteon sohw 1673su external burner.

I have a similar internal burner.  I don't think you should have any problems.  Just make sure you set the booktype w/ the Lite-On utility.  From there, it should be set permanently.  Also, make sure you are backing up your games correctly.  I have a Samsung DVD-Rom, and have been using Extreme30's stealth method with great results.  Good luck.

Burner: Pioneer 111d

Media:  Verbatim (9x)

360 Drive: Hitatchi 47 w/ xtreme 2.1

It sounds stupid as hell to burn at anything other than x2.4.  The last game I burned I took a huge risk.  I forgot to change the write speed in clonecd and the default is max allowed.  So once I started I couldn't stop...  and the game works like a charm!  Took 15 minutes.

Motherboard: Asus M2N32-SLI (Nforce 590 and Sil3132) -- Will not work with mktflash -- Used PCI VIA6421 Card.. Repeat, if you have an AM2 Nforce590/570 motherboard, the onboard sata will not work. I never got a definitive answer from anyone on that. It surely does not work.

Burner: Liteon SHW-160P6S firmware PS0A (Had to use 'booktype_liteon100.exe' to set to DVD-ROM -- not Booktype 135)

Media: Verbatim DVD+R DL (2.4X with CloneCD, other speeds less-than-work)

360 Drive: Samsung MS25 w/ Xtreme 3.0

1.) Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
2.) Burner: LG "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B A102"
3.) Media Brand: Ritek DVD+DL and SOME Pengo DVD+DL (see below)
4.) Xbox 360 Drive and FW: Toshiba-Samsung MS-25 with Xtreme 3.0 firmware

I started out using Pengo discs, and they worked fine.

Pengo Box:
IPB Image

Working Pengo Disc (Original is there so I don't get banned for Piracy):
IPB Image

Later, I went back to buy some more Pengos. They had the same box, but the discs looked different. It turns out that my Xbox360 can read the first layer fine, but can't read the second layer. I was half way through a game, when it just froze up on me. After killing another disc, and trying to rip the backups, I found that it couldn't read the second layer! So heres a picture of the BAD Pengo discs. Remeber: the boxes look exactly the same.

BAD Pengo Disc:
IPB Image

I then had to switch to Ritek, which are working fine (plus they are on sale - 5 for 1,580 yen!).

Ritek Box and Disc:
IPB Image

Conclusion: I wouldn't risk buying any Pengo DVD+DLs, because you can't really tell if your getting a working disc until you open the packaging.

Props to all you Firmware coders - making our lives easier!

Great Post..I'll add my two cents...

Motherboard - Asus A8V-E-SE Socket 939

Burner - LG GSA-4163B (A105 firmware)

Media - FujiFilm DVD+R DL purchased from BestBuy (MediaCode is RITEK-D01-01)

XBOX DVD-ROM Hitachi 47DJ flashed with Gary OPA 7 in 1

Results - So far every single disc has been a coaster !!

Bestbuy had a terrible selection of discs.. I had to choose basically between Maxell and FujiFilm. They had no Verbatim at all.. GRRRRR.

I am able to bitset the drive using DVDInfoPro and burn the image as DVDRom using CloneCD.. but no luck !
Strange thing is that my X360 recognized the disc but thinks its an audio CD or something smile.gif

I used Verbatim and GaryOPA v1.3 with Geremia's MediaDetect patch, so the following may NOT apply to you, but my POT is much higher than 2.9:

I have a 47DJ with GaryOPA v1.3 (with Geremia's MediaDetect patch built-in).
I restored my DVD POT to original 4.01 (orig was actually 4.03,
but close enough).
My backups worked perfectly and loaded quickly.

However, to help laser life, I LOWERED the POT slightly -
according to someone who knows quite a bit about lasers, laser life can be reduced both ways and not just from lowering the POT - i.e. a weaker laser (higher POT) can potentially put stress on the laser's focusing coils when reading backups, which can affect the laser longevity (to what degree I don't know).
I now have my DVD POT at 3.82 Kilo Ohms (as close to the 3.8 recommendation as I could get it) to try to achieve a nice balance for laser lifespan when reading burned DL media.
Since some POT values start lower than that, I feel comfortable
with this suggested value (for MY drive); besides which, it is only 5% below the factory value anyway and also still well above the minimum values suggested everywhere.

PS1: I am not an expert and am not making recommendations; I just wanted to bring it up for discussion.
The recommendations received were for my 47DJ drive.
This is optional, of course.

PS2: POT tweaking can cause serious problems if not done right, so do your research first and be aware of the risks involved.
The resistance values to be used also vary by drive model and by desired benefits.

Mobo:  Asrock 939 Dual Sata II

Drive: Hitachi 46DH (recognized by Windows ONLY after I got desperate and did the two wires trick)

Firmware: Opa's V2.1

Burner: NEC 3500AG

Media: Memorex DVD+R DL (only thing I could find locally)

Results: 2 for 2 Coaster-ville.  Both discs I burned start to load and then give me the dirty disc error. Burned with DVD Decrypter at 2x speed, set all options per the tutorials. Still coasters.

Plans: I am ordering the Pioneer burner this Friday from Newegg, along with 20 Verbatim DL discs. Should arrive Tuesday or so--maybe Wednesday? I'll report back on how things progress. I'm definitely frustrated. $5 coasters are a drag!

Make sure you don't remove the layerbreak info from the .dvd file when burning with clone, also use the latest version so it is compatible with the LayerBreak command.
I only use clone when DVDDecrypter says invalid image.

Memorex media works perfect @ 2.4x, 6 out of 6 perfect burns on an NEC 3550A....amazing. But I'll stick to Verbatim's

I did exactly that with Ghost Recon. The only thing I did differently was that I changed firmware on my burner to Liggy's 2.1A Bitsetting. The backup won't even load. I tried all the tricks. Still get the open tray.

1) Motherboard: Asus P4p800-vm with ICH5 Chipset
2) DVD Burner - Pioneer 111d w stock firmware
3) Verbatim DVD-DL +R (spindle of 20)
4) Samsung v25a

Notes:
Motherboad needs to be set to SATA (not PATA and SATA).  Also, the xbox dvd-rom should show up as the primary device.  In order to do this I had to use a floppy (not a bootable dos dvd).

Also the chipset does not appear in msinfo in windows for some reason which doesnt really matter because the ICH5 chipset is natively supported by mtkflash.

No editing of mtkflash was needed.

cheers.

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (Socket 939). Used SLAX CD method to get drive into mode B.
Hitachi v46d drive in the 360. used GaryOPA Xtreme 7 in 1 v 2.1 to flash.
Pioneer 110D and 111D burners used successfully.
Used Verbatim Dual Layer media as well as Philips Dual Layer media with positive results.

A.

Results: Perfect!!

Memorex backup of Enchanted Arms quit playing last night. So, I dragged my sick self (my daughter gave me one of those School-borne colds. sad.gif ...) to Best Buy this morning (40 minute drive each way) where they were selling Verbatims. I paid my $18 for the 5 pack and came home. My first was a coaster because I didn't set the layer break back on after burning other DVD's last night....yep, being sick robs you of your sense). But ALL after that worked just as well as my originals!

So, there's my success story.

I still have a Pioneer 111d coming next week and a pile of Verbatims will be with it!

Motherboard:
    1. ASUS P4S8X + Creative VIA6421L PCI Card - First time worked (flashed Xtreme fw 1.00 with it), then stopped ("No Drive found!")
    2. Gigabyte GA-7ZM + Creative VIA6421L PCI Card - OK, works fine (flashed Xtreme fw 4.2A with it)
Burner:
    1. LG GSA-H20L fw 1.01 - worked, but after 4 moths stopped burning CDs, and after another month stopped burning DL media. Dont buy it! It is a pice of sh*t. Also had problems with CloneCD (had to disable my Plextor 708A and Alcohol virtual drive in Device Manager)
    2. Pioneer DVR-111 fw 1.29 - works great! No coaster so far, works in CloneCD.
Media:
    1. Verbatim DL+ 2.4x PRINTABLE - works great
    2. Verbatim DL+ 2.4x  - works, but before LG stopped working I had problems with these, buy PRINTABLE
Software:

I have an intel Imac with a matshita dvd-r UJ-846 burner and it works fine making straight coppies.  Im using toast to burn with and verbatim +r dual layers

I also have the Matshita DVD-R UJ-846, I have tried with IMGBurn , CloneCD.
MacNotebook Pro 17" (Intel) running Bootcamp Windows XP SP2.

DVDInfoPro tells me that the DVD drive does not support Bitsetting.

Motherboard: Intel 945G

Xbox 360 Drive: Samsung Drive MS25: USB STICK with Updated MTKFLASH by use of Xtreme Boot Maker, XENO connector kit.

Xbox 360 Drive: Hitachi LG Drive: Flashed With Maximus-Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_3_Stealth_Rev2 with XENO connector kit. VERY EASY!! 2 min process to flash doing this method!!

Game Backups: HOT SWAP METHOD ONLY + added SS after ISO was dumped!

Burner: Pioneer DVR111D with extrenal adaptor on the back to hook up to my USB PORT! I love this thing.. All I did was take apart an extrenal USB DVD drive and used the back part for this DRIVE and it is amazing I can HOT SWAP and burn backups with the SAME DRIVE!!!

Burner Program: CloneCD for all DVD+DL Xbox 360 Burns + I have used DVD Decrypter but switched to CLONE CD because it was not reading all Verbatim disk very well..

MEDIA: DVD+R DL Verbatim and DVD+R DL Memorex Both work on Samsung AND Hitachi Drives
Virebatom disks burn a lot faster!!!

NOTE: I recommend getting the XENO connector kit. It takes me 2 min to flash any Hitachi drive and about 4 min to flash Samsung. When in MS Dos mode the Samsung drives will be read using the XENO connector kit. Just not while you are in Windows. With the Hitachi Drive I just Run CMD.EXE and flash the drive because the drive is read under windows.. EASY AS PIE!

Just test this theory of mine. Flash with Birdy 2.2 Fixed and then try your coasters. If they work, then I've discovered a problem with opa and the DRU-810a.

2.) SY-VIA-150 RAID Sata card from Mwave ($12.99 + shipping). Downloaded and installed the 530 drivers and disabled the RAID app in MSConfig.

3.) Sh-d162c DVD-rom from Vesalia ($40.25 USD incl. shipping to US, good co. to deal with, fast ship)
4.) Benq 1620 DL DVD burner, DVD+R DL bit-set to DVD-ROM with Benq's QSuite app
5.) Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL from Sams club

-----------------------------------------

Backed up the 4 games I own using the Sh-d162c DVD-Rom and Xbox Backup Creator.
Burned 2 games at 2.4x speed and 1 at 4x speed using XBC, all 3 work 100% with no errors or open tray probs. Burned 1 with ImageBurn (as a test) @ 4x, again, zero problems. Plan on re-burning one of my games @ 8x as a test (I've always found Benq DVD burners to be very reliable).

BIG THANKS to C4e (and others) for all their work!

I'm patiently waiting for your results. I have the exact same burner and a Hitachi 59DJ drive. When flashed with opa 2.3 stealth rev2 some of my burns which are all burned on Verbatim DVD+R DL at 4x with CloneCD won't boot. With birdy's 2.2 they all work perfectly with no extra noise out of the hitachi.

OK, I never got to reflash the drive with Birdy...I got the opportunity to buy a Pioneer 111 so I took it...
So now I am running a
Hitachi 47dj with Garyopa 2.3
Pioneer 111d with Dangerous Brothers v1.29
Clone CD and IMGBurn on Verbatim 2.4x

And I Am still making coasters.....about 45% Success Rate

Any suggestions?

i am having problems with flashing the 78fk

i have an asus k8v-mx board with via onboard, a si3114 and a via vt6421a (not all in at the same time)

the onboard via will not get into mode b using slax 2.0 or 2.1
the via vt6421a will not get into mode b using slax 2.0 or 2.1
the si3114 will get it into mode b, then when i get into windows and try the flash, it ALWAYS fails at the checksum stage!!!!!!!!!!!!

please help.

Someone please tell me what board/sata combo i need and i'll go and buy it

This motherboard has two onboard SATA controllers. Intel ICH8 for the internal SATA ports and the JMicron Controller for the External SATA port. I used Xtreme Boot Maker to modify MTKFlash and flash my Xbox 360 using the external port. This saves the hassle of having to open your PC up to plug in the SATA port.
If you are going to use this board & method then set the JMicron SATA Controller to IDE in the BIOS and get an eSATA to SATA cable. I got a 2m one off ebay for £2. Bargin!

Happy Flashing!!

Burner : Pioneer 111d fw 1.29
Media: 2.4x memorex. I burned 3 games onto these discs. The first game loaded one time and only one time. The other 2 games never will load at all, I also can't get the first game to work anymore, wtf? Open tray error and unplayable disc error when booted up with game in

2.4 Sony dual pack I found at compusa this morning. Weird media is mainly what I have to say. Advertises 2.4x burning all over it so I had just left imgburn on max write and both discs wrote at 6x for some reason, never had that happen before. Anyways both games on these discs work 100% of the time off of a cold boot. If I try to switch between the two games after playing a few hours I might have to eject once or twice to get it to boot but thats it.

8x Ridata single. The single works great. Burned at 8x and it loads up silently and just as quick as an orginal game. I have a spindle of these coming tomorrow via ups so I'll try some more on these to make sure its not just one lucky disc.

Btw, my 360 drive is the April 2006 59dj hitachi.

Ok, tried another 10 or so Ridata 8x dvds. All burned at 8x and they all work just like orginals. Boot and work just fine at cold boots and after the system has been on for hours. Nice and cheap too.
