correct, unless like me you have 2x sata raided raptors and need to unplug em to get the xbox connected :-(
-
Ive already done this with mine but with a switch and a sata socket on the back to switch between the xbox360 sata port and the port on the back. My idea is to have 2 switches one for the dual firware (1 with the xtr0800.bin and the other for the xtreme.bin) So when im finished I will be able to put both switches one way and plug sata into my computer to backup games and both the othere way to play the backups.
I was thinking of writing a Tut.
I will get some pictures as soon as I have the dual boot firmware installed as well..

search for "sata bracket" on a big pc equipment company like Scan or Dabs
-
For those in the states Newegg sells the same thing:
SATA Extension Adapter
Just remove the metal bracket and you have the same thing...
-
Darn I have lots of such firewire and usb2 brackets for extension bays but no sata
-
Theta where did you buy your cable I'm in europe too and I want to order it.
-
I built my own sata extender by cutting a broken PCI network card pins (whose pin width is exactly the same as sata) and pushing it into the male connector.
But then I realised I cant get the plugs out of the 360 case without bending the USB/LAN port so I dropped this idea. Would be great but I cant see how I could get the cables through without violently bending the case.
-
heres my take on the same idea

just gotta pop the grating under the hdd off, takes 3 seconds to get to.. keeps everything looking stock
-
Good idea sniper nice and hidden when your not using it.

Excellent! Just what i was looking to do. Nice work!

Where can I buy a sata male/female cord...the cord that actually goes inside of your box?
-
this is probably a stupid question but what is the purpose of doing this. im starting to do research on the firmware mod because im going to try to do it my self but i dont get what this has to do with it. can someone please tell me what the point of doing this extention thing is.
thanks
-
Exactly what the topic says it does! Basically, you are making it easier to access the SATA cable so you don't have to open your case everytime you wish to "Backup" your games. Plus, it's a little bit longer cable so you don't have to place your 360 right by your PC.

Hey Theta, One quick question. How did you manage to get the wire through the back where the RJ-45 connection is at without breaking it? I can't seem to get it through the back.

Hey Theta,
how is that cable called ?
FEMALE to MALE extender AND/OR right angle SATA cable - or are those 2 different cables that i would need...
Tried to find it on the internet but all the pics are so small u can't really see what kind of cable u'll get so that's why i'm asking.....
-
Here is the one I bought from a local PC shop.
http://www.cooldrive...rwpoandsac.html
He is my end result:

Use the existing short cable and unscrew this cable from the bracket. Then I cut the part that holds the screws for the cable on the bracket off. Makes a nice tight fight. Any SATA extension cable will do the job.
If you are replacing the short sata cable, you need a SATA cable with the connector "UP" - Right Angled

There sold here: http://www.cs-electr.../serial-ata.htm
I went with the single extension cable from the bracket.
Luis
-
Here is the down cable which is a standard cable. Will not fit the xbox because of the metal shielding. A straight cable does not fit either, cdr-om hits it.
So just use an extension cable and the existing cable. Works best.
Just wanted to share what I have found.

Hey Luis,
so u took the cable out of that bracket and then used it in the 360 ?
I guess it is a female to male... other wise it wouldn't work.... (i guess) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
what about this one ?

Yes I took the cable out and used it on the DVD, the short one that is in the xbox is used to attach to the cable in the link. Sounds right, female to male. Any extension cable is basically female, I think.

Just seen dabs has 2 new extensions:
2 Port
http://www.dabs.com/...&SearchMode=All
and
1 Port
http://www.dabs.com/...&SearchMode=All
Ive ordered one of each and as there isnt much info on the dabs site ill let you know if they are any good. The 2 port is cheaper than the 1 port atm so i dunno whats goin on
-
you cant use a 1 port...
here is the dabs 2 port:
-
Yeah the 1 port turned out to be e-sata, the two port works just fine. You could even cut it and make it smaller.
-
haha right now i still need to connect my xbox 360 dvd drive to my pc to flash it so i am pretty sure i need this
Sata Cable
and what else do i need just to connect it
-
A basic knowledge of what you're trying to do would help. Read the last few posts in the thread, they explain pretty clearly anything you'll need to do a similar mod.
-
I did this it requires no extra parts whatso ever and is easy to do

Also I have large hands so if my fingers can fit yours should be able to also.
-
This is my Completed Product , i got the idea from seom other pics i seen a few days ago
Looks like a brand new unit with Hardrive inplace
once you remove hardrive its pretty easy to get ahold of the Sata cable
i will probably put in a sata extension to make it easier , but it is done for the time being

Xbox360 3

I thought i had the same problem, but i unscrewed everything to take the motherboard out and fans etc, so that your just left with the empty bottom case. Then i put the cables through the usb/ethernet hole on the case and bent them 2 springy metal pins at the top of the usb/ethernet little box and put the motherboard back in. It was a bit of a squeese but it all went in fine and works

Is this sata cable extension / split thing useless if you have the Xecuter Connectivity Kit?
Backup copys perspective for the xecuter connectivity kit:
ex1.So this connectivity kit makes it possible to flash the dvd drive without the cables in the 360 pluged in.
ex2.It will also make so you dont have to open your xbox case ( or mod it ) to flash the dvd drive. You just plug in the sata in the kit... Is it like this?
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME AN YES OR NO for each example. PLEASE???????

Hi guys. I want to do a SATA extension and because of the lack of SATA cables available from local suppliers I'll have to get the required SATA cables freighted in, so I was wondering if you guys can clear a few things up? I'm wanting to do the extension similar to Theta's mod. From what I've read and seen in posts around I figure I will need a right angle "UP" SATA extension. The right angle "UP" connection needs to be plugged into the where the exisiting SATA port is on the 360 mainboard (From what I've read I need the right angle "UP" because it needs clearance under the ODD). This SATA lead also needs to be a female to male extension, correct? If I've read right, the right angle will be female and will be the end that connects to the mainboard and the male end will feed through to the outside of my case. I can then use the existing 360 SATA cable that I have unplugged from the mainboard (and use the end that I've unplugged from the 360 mainboard while leaving the other end connected to the ODD) and connect this to the SATA cable I have unplugged. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I want to know whether first of all I've got right parts identified that I need and if the way I want to run this connection sounds right. I want to be able to run a SATA extension for my computer also that was just going to be to an L bracket at the back of my PC and then just unplug my 360's ODD from outside the case and plug it straight into the L bracket on the back of my computer. I'm assuming that I'll need a female to male extension for this too. Is all of this correct or have I missed anything. I would like to order the parts but I want to be certain before I do. Also I read that the mainboard needs to be taken out of the case in order to fit the leads through the RJ45 opening. Do's this mean from the metal case or the outer shell and will a network lead still plug into the connection with these leads coming through there? BTW, great idea guys. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
-
i got the newegg bracket but with all the money spent wouldn't it be easier to just get a DVD-ROM aftermarket? shove it in the pc and leave it at FW900 or Xtreme0800?
Seems to me to be alot easier. Just a thought. you know the little ones like to frag halo2 but dont know how to respect the discs or cabling lol
-
I wasn't aware that you could buy an aftermarket drive that you didn't have to pay through the teeth for or even if you could buy one at all. Every 360 site I've been too says that you can pre-order one but they don't have them in stock. Even if I got an aftermarket drive won't I need the connectivity kit to power it up? Where did you see an aftermarket drive? Thanks
-
Can i use this
http://fwdepot.com/t...a3ec2fbbb24b5f8
just the cable "Signal Female Type SATA Connector to 7 positions Serial ATA Connector"?
Because i want to extend the cable that goes to the 360 motherboard to this cable then this cable to the cable im going to put on the 360 dvd drive...so I can play ...but if i want to flahs the firmware i jsut take the cable that goes to the dvd drive and hook it up to my 6421L pci card..
I just wanted to know where do i find this cable that connects to the cable (that is connect to the motherboard)
lile for exemple "Sata Female to Male" but couldn't of find nothing..
If anyone has an idea ill appreciate it
-
just in case people were still interested, the cable you need isnt commonly referred to as "up" or "down" it is "right angle" and "left angle" and you want the "left angle" sata cable.
http://cooldrives.st...atacasicas.html
like $7 shipped for an 8 inch cable.
-
Thanks mate that help's clear it up a little bit for me. I've been asking local PC suppliers about SATA extensions and they're clueless about anything other than a standard extension lead.
They couldn't even order an extension that would run from my mainboard to an L bracket at the back of my PC, so I could have an external SATA port.
-
three things you will need for the sata extension
1) sata bracket ( just take the lead off of the bracket)
2) 1 meter normal sata cable
3) The normal sata cable from in the xbox
Step 1
Cut a hole in the top of your xbox and unplug the normal sata cable from your DVD drive and feed it through the hole.
Step 2
Plug the sata extension cable (from your sata bracket) into your DVD drive and feed the other end through the hole you just made
Step 3
Plug the 1 meter sata cable into the port in your pc (or pci card) and run it out of the case to the top of your xbox.
Step 4
When you want to play your xbox as normal just connect the 2 leads coming out of the top of your xbox, when you want to flash it connect the 1 meter cable to the extension cable coming out of the top of your xbox.
Sorted

You dont need SATA bracket if you have SATA on the mobo.
-
You do if you just want to run an extension to the back of your PC, so you don't have to have your case open

Scrano, SataGear the king of the cables.... yeah sure, but a shop like that doesn't exist here. It's impossible to find a left angle serial ata cable here, ive searched in 2 weeks... stayed up 4 whole nights to search for this. It doesn't exist in Sweden.
And Scrano the black serial-ata cable is broken, my brother fucked it. That's why i need something to replace it with. Im pissed of to see all people buy special cables and shit, when i can't buy it.
I was forced to buy a normal serial-ata cable ( becuase the angled ones is "DOWN" not "UP" everywhere in shops here )
I had to cut off the thing at the side of the dvd drive so the cable could fit, i wish the serial-ata cables were smaller. The cable is not 100 % straight angled to the mobo, the dvd player push the cable a bit.

I know what you mean mate.
I've tried to get local PC suppliers to get one of these "Left Angled" or "Up" SATA extension leads ordered in but they don't have a clue, not even if I provide a link to one from an online shop or email them a picture. Drives me nuts.
I think I'm gonna have to order one direct from Newegg or StarTech if they will even deliver it to my country.

You dont need one
read what i post above, the sata bracket isnt for the pc!! you strip the lead out of the sata bracket and plug it in the back of your dvd drive, then run the other end out of the 360 along with the other end of the original little sata cable that was plugged in the dvd drive (leave the original pluged into to the xbox 360!!)
once both cables are out you can join them and use your xbox as normal, then when you want to flash, buy a 1 meter sata cable and run it from your pc to the leads coming out of your xbox!!

Yes mate I understand what you've said but I was just trying to think of a way to do it as neat as possible and I was exploring all of the different possible ways of doing this extension. Simple as that.
I appreciate the advice, I really do and with the lack of suitable leads to do this mod the other ways I've seen around it will probably be the one I do but I just wanted to make sure that I've looked at everything around.
I don't want to do the extension and get a week down the track and think, ooh I wouldn't have minded doing it that way.
Once again thanks, it's not that I didn't understand what you were saying, it's just what I liked the look of some of the other mods.

Well, the video was made to show people that you can destroy all the clips from the ventilation shield without any problems, and it still fit perfect and does never fall off.
But you can actually very simple take it off by just grabbing it, and make a hole so you can pull out the sata cabel and flash.

What does the Dabs 2-port SATA extender look like, exactly? Their site doesn't have a picture. The only pic on this thread that has it (supplied by geebee) doesn't really show how it's used. I'm thinkin' of rigging it underneath the hard drive so that the Motherboard connection goes to one port (soldered to a left-angle cable) and the other port goes to to the DVD drive. With the 360 all closed up, there will be two SATA ports exposed nice and clean, flush against the plastic near where the hard drive connector is. Both connectors will be connected with the stock SATA cable taken out of the xbox ('cause it's nice and short
) and when I want to backup a game, I'll just disconnect that and connect a standard cable from the connector that goes to the DVD drive to another SATA connector in one of my computer's PCI slots. I'm thinking of using these parts for the mod:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16812206003
http://www.cooldrive...atacasicas.html
I'm definitely using this cable since I can't find a left-angle on newegg. If the Dabs extender is better for the job, I'll use that. Anyone have detailed pictures of it and how they use it?
-
my god, why is everyone hacking apart their 360 case? I didnt find it neccesary at all.
I did this quite a long time ago, didnt think it was a big deal but stumbled across this thread and saw the nasty cutting of 360 cases so i thought i would contribute.
Doing it this way lost me one (or maybe both) usb ports on the back but most dont use them anyways and there are others on the front of the console.
required items :
7in sata cable
sata extention cable stolen off a 'external' bracket (although be aware its not a true external sata bracket. I believe spec external sata uses a different connector)
here are some images outlining the end result
http://img228.images...6115085vhn.smil
hopefully it saves others from mutilating their 360s

for anyone who cares I found a web site that sells right angle to left angle sata cables in 4,8,20,30,40 inch sections.
Hope this helps!!!

Hey if you are in Australia and want a Male-Female SATA cable then you can get one here:
http://pccasegear.com.au/prod3746.htm
I got mine the other day after a long search and just unscrew the cable part and you have a perfectly normal cable for use inside your xbox 360. Just thought i'd let you know if anyone was looking for one. Works well too.
Cheers
-
Has anyone thought about adding a 2 port sata bracket to the back of the 360? Connect each sata cable to to appropriate socket (1 on the mobo and 1 on the dvd drive) and then use the short cable that comes with the 360 to link the 2 ports together? This would make it much tidier and if you label the ports as to where they go a small sticker or something should do then i can't see why it wouldn't work. Only potential problem being the sheilding and case mounting.
Doing it this way would also allow you to have your usb connection on the back free. Nice mod idea tho guys.
I may even try this when mine returns from having the dvd drive repaired.. Don't try the wire trick for flashing the firmware!!
-
How do I go about getting the Sata cables out the back of the Xbox 360 via the USB Port without cutting anything?Do I open up the USB/Eth Box? How do I do it? Do I bend something? A picture would be awesome.
The original pictures are gone and Loto_Bak's pictures don't show the inside of the case.....Please...help me... Thx.
-
Where in Australia can i get a female sata adapter so I can join two sata cables together?
-
Here's my take on this
-
Did you have to do any cutting or bending to get the cables out?
PS....How do you get cables out the back of the 360 via USB port?
-
To get the Sata wires out the back of the Xbox360, you have to "REMOVE" the motherboard, slide the wires through the Usb hole, and then replace the motherboard. This will sqeeze the sata wires, but it will be ok.
Awesome.....that is what I'm going to do when I get the wires.

Could someone tell me what do i need without opening case.

Thanks for the advice on this forum. For UK owners, here's how I did it.
(1) Purchased sata backplate via enay
SATA BACKPLATE
(2) Used tin snips to cut hole into inter mesh
(3) Unscrewed one of the two sata connectors from the backplate
(4) plugged one end into the back of the xbos dvd drive, and used a glue gun to stick the other end on top of the network port casing. I did this at a sligh angle to ease access in future.
Once reassembed looks like the first image:-
Pictures
So the cable that usualy plugs into the back of the DVD drive (from the xbox motherboard, simply plugs into here...(2nd image)
The lead from the PC motherboard can now be plugged straight into the female socket for firmware upgrades.
-
Theta can you please rehost your pictures because the links are dead.

Guys is it possible to use this technique in order to flash your firmware or is it just to backup your games?
-
I just checked the links, they still work ok? If you want me to post pictures somewhere else let me know where I can do it FOC. This is primarily used for firmware upgrade, but could also use to extract images (if reflash with alternatve firmware)

if you cut the space in the right area you can screw the extension right into place and make it easy on yourself

i use some electrical tape to avoid a ground connection from the cage to the female sata port
i suggest using this method for FW upgrades, but you should also be able to use it for making backups - the samsung d162c is so much easier though
-
My little idea for this

basically its a 3 port SATA board with 2 inputs and 1 output with a switch so you can connect the dvd drive, pc, and 360 all together and no have to unplug and plug in cables, just flip a switch.
have it made so the port for the pc's cable and the switch are mounted somewhere for easy access, like on the side of the case...
anyway thats my idea.
-
Does this mean we can hotswap the DVD Drive?

This is my Completed Product , i got the idea from seom other pics i seen a few days ago
Looks like a brand new unit with Hardrive inplace
once you remove hardrive its pretty easy to get ahold of the Sata cable
i will probably put in a sata extension to make it easier , but it is done for the time being
Xbox360 1Xbox360 2Xbox360 3Xbox360 4sorry couldnt figure out how to put pics in the post , said i wasnt allowed to use img

The Samsung 162C is still nice to have. It's in place all of the time, and once you flash it with Kreon .81 it's no additional work at all. Plus you can continue watching the HD movie you downloaded from Live, while your ripping or burning that backup.
-
This is my idea, but where can i get a 7-wire switch? That's my only problem at the moment.

With this mod is easy hotswap possible!
-
Oh, the pic above is wrong and ic can't edit the post, so her the right image:
-
i think you can pull it off with a 4 wire switch... i saw a thread last week from another case modder on this site who used a 4 wire switch to do the same thing. i think it was called "darth vader" mod.

Look for a 4PDT switch.
-
Could i do this, with two 6PDT switches? Like choose between the wire go to MB from DVD and from DVD to pc?
it haves "ON - OFF - ON", and 6 points.
-
Okay, and how do i have to solder the cables together now? There are 3 GND and 4 other each cable. The 3 GND of each cable all together and the other 4 wires of each cable to the 4PDT switch, right?

I mean every switch have 6 points on them, so if i use both i can get two wires on each, requires that i flip both when i wanna use the external sata wire.

This sounds interesting, only thing is I cant seem to download or view the pics.
??

This is all great! I did a SATA bracket that is female to female and I have it all connected. The Sata PCI from my computer is run with a SATA cable right into the top of my 360.
But how do I get my computer to recognize it without the connectivity kit? I see all of you do this SATA mod straight from the 360 to the pc. I have mine set up exactly like that but the computer does not recognize it!
Send my tutorial, I have read some already but nothing.
-
Nevermind I figured it out I used a slax live cd and got my 360 into modeB and the computer recognized it.
-
Really interested but the original pictures don't seem to be working? can you repost?
-
yeah i remember that thread sticky. title was "vader is coming"
also what about all the shielding on the cables i mean would heatshrink be enough? no kind of signal loss?

I'm going to try white plastic "heat shrink" or something around the cut next time to make for a cleaner finish.
I like the switch ideal. I might do something like that.

i found a 8 pole double throw switch but it doesnt look right. what do you guys think
http://www.surplussa.../SWPushB-1.html its a little more than half way downon left side, it wouldnt give me just a pic link.
-
This is all looking good, I don't know which one to use!
-
I've recently installed this mod and plan to do similar to my brothers box. Like someone previously, I screwed the female port to the metal chassis. I attempted to make the hole as small as possible and it all fits nicely under the HDD.
I plan to sand down the cuts, so I apoligise for the roughness.
-
I also plan to mod and was just wondering if this product has any advantages.
-
Would it be at all possible Theta, to host your pics on Imageshack or Sendspace?
Having trouble with the site they are currently being hosted on.
Thanks.

I just bought this and wanted to know if i needed anything else

There isn't any way to split the sata cable(Into left or back of xbox360) without brake or cut the box of xbox360???
If there is which is the way?
A lot of thanks.

I swear, you have to be the dumbest douchebag in all of X-S. I'm sorry to be a prick, but your posts just drive me over the edge.

I don't attack you why you attack me???
I do one very simple question if you don't know or you don't want to answer please don't answer it isn't necessary to be so mean…
You see we aren't all genius like you...

Wow - there is almost a 9 month gap between eatshitanddie & fitsman's post! I wonder whatever happened to this thread between that time. Or was no one paying attention.
Anyhow. I'll be getting a new XBOX 360 Go Pro bundle this Saturday. My old one got banned - sold it! I was thinking about doing something like this for it. So you basically just need a SATA Split cable, hook it up and you're good to go?
Sounds easy enough. Not sure why this isn't more popular. I'd rather this then opening my case over & over & over ....
-
I cant seem to find a Male to female cable anywhere damn you newegg
-
Is there any where that sells a power cable for the 360? I had an idea to have 2 drives hooked up to the machine and a switch to swap between the 2 drives. One drive with the original firmware on it (for live) and one drive for my backups. Have an external enclosure for the 2nd drive.
Anybody think this would be a viable solution?
-
I want to bump this up for newer solutions. All the pics from 06 don't work anymore and the ones that do don't really show much. I'm going to attempt flashing my refurb hdmi 360 from gamestop soon and instead of opening it up all the time this would just make life easier.
-
I take it by using the Xecuter Blaster360 you could save yourself the expense of ruining your case and being able to remove the device if you ever wanted to sell it.
Anyone have one?
Your thoughts?

Exactly, it makes life easier instead of cutting open the case. I've only used it for my Hitachi though, not sure how it works (if at all) with the other drives. Never had to look into it.
-
no point really though. this was made back when people had to reflash a new version of firmware all the time and now we have a really stable version. It was also big for Samsung drives back in the day because you used them to backup games but now a Kreon Flashed Drive is mostly used.
-
i know this thread is kinda old, but the 3 pics in the first post dont work. could someone please repost? thanks!
-
Isnt it better to remove the drive to connect it to an external power source? It has been awhile since I have flashed a drive. The last time was when the first ban wave came in.. and people were saying to use a external power for the drive so that the xbox360 was never powered on without a optical drive, thus throwing a flag.
Not sure but just asking.
-
Would it be a good idea to get this

I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for me to flash my drive and a few of my friends drives

No. eSATA is not what you want.

Could I use a eSATA to SATA cable/adapter and will this work

I also plan to mod and was just wondering if this
product has any advantages.
i was just reading all these posts ( fromyears ago now), and i was thinking it would be cool if i could ...
put a splitter(2into1) the sata at the drive,
have a simple on off switch to the motherboard side,
then if ur feeling adventurous convert into usb with suddz idea (anyone tried that?) then then disconnect the rear usb from the board and send it out there, allmost perfect solution except for the switch, micro switch in the usb port would be sweet...
...but yer, as if i could be fucked doin any of that,
i think tomorow im just going to molest those plastic case clips one more time...
