Post by: Cappadonna on May 17, 2006, 04:45:00 PM
First I have to give proper thanks to all of the people in different forums for their help.  You know who you are.  Ok here's the deal.  If you are having trouble booting xp with the 360 connected here is what you do.  You need to uninstall the Nvidia IDE drivers and just use the generic drivers that come with xp.  So simple huh. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)   If you know how to flash the firmware then you should know how to do this so don't ask.  One note though.  The only way xp will recognize the drive is to turn pc off, turn 360 on then power up PC.  I hope this helps all of you NF4 users out there having problems.  I know it did me. Well I uninstalled them drivers, and they keep coming back. So I went to device manager and installed the standard ms drivers over the nvidia. Well my computer wouldn't boot, but last known good configuartion option got it botting again. Anyone know of a way to save my stuff. I haven't been able to make a proper back up and it's killing me.

ill start off by admitting im an idiot, but now my question/problem...
xp freezes for me as well when hooking up/powering on the dvd-drive, but i dont believe i have an nvidia chipset, especially reguarding ide devices. I have an nvidia agp graphics card tho, if that has anything to do with it.

The mktflash detect but not reply after , i wait 10 min but do nothing

We can see on first pict TS-943 is detected by the bios on first SATA Master but on mktflash is detected on third fourth device...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

I go to system info to see SATA NF4 and i edit the patched version of mtkflashNF4 with winhex for see if value VID> < DID> <primary port addr>  <,secondary port addr>  <text descriptor of VID & DID> correspond to my motherboard but all it's ok.

I try to disconnect all my drive; disable sata channel 1and2 or3 and4; change TS-H943 to other sata port 1,2,3,4; swap with maxtor sata dd.

I disable raid controller.

I try method with livecd slax but not work.

hi there one question.

Does it work to us a DFI Ultra lanparty motherbord?

is all the things i have to do is to uninstal the nf4 driver and intall MS original and it should work to do stuff with the DVD drive.

i have read somwhere that it only works with a few sata motherbords so that is why i am asking unsure.gif

Ok guys, this is exactly how I did this and now I am in Business cool.gif .

Go to Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and select Nvidia drivers.

Put a check in the IDE Drivers box only.  It will ask to reboot but select NO for now.

Go to My Computer/C:/Nvidia and delete the folder that contains the nforce chipset drivers.

Now when you restart, XP has no choice but to install generic drivers.

Hope that helps.

Now for those having problems flashing.  No you do not have to wait for the drive to start flashing.  It is almost instantaneous after you select the right port.  As far as that goes, I think that the NF4 patched mtkflash doesn't recognize the SATA ports correctly.  Anyway, on my set up I have the 360 on SATA 1 and HDD on SATA 4.  Therefore I have to choose #3 for the port.

I hope this helps some of you guys out. wink.gif

What if you dont have an nf4 chipset, but your computer still freezes. Are there any links/guides for solving the problem?
Cause as far as i know, i dont have an nf4 chipset, but i did manage to flash my drive from dos. yet it still freezes when i load windows.
i have the drive hooked directly to my motherboard (it has two sata connections, one of which is occupied by a sata HD)

Thats my mb and I have it plugged into my bottom Sata. I just installed windows on a seperate hard drive, and I unplug my raid hard drives when I want to try this. I still have nvidia drivers in the sata colum under device manager. Any ideas? Also, I'm able to flash the firmware, it just freezes when I try to start up my computer.

Sorry to make three posts in a role, but it actually worked. For those of you who still can't get this to work...

I have a raid setup so to fix that I just unpluged both of the  power cables going to the hard drives, leaving the IDE cables still attached(it's a pain to take those in and out a lot.)

I then found a 40 gig hard drive that I wasn't using. I installed a fresh copy of xp, but the drive still wouldn't show up...I put the xp disk inside of my xbox 360 drive and started up the install process. Once all the stuff loads and it asks you if you want to install xp or repair, hit enter to install xp. Then it will search for pervious installed copies of xp. Once it found the one I had installed earlier then I hit r for repiar. Once it was done no lag and the drive is now working under windows.

I guess you could just from the beginning use the 360 drive to install windows...But this is what I had to do and I hope it helps someone

Please forgive the typos...it's alomst 2 in the morning and I'm spent! Just ask me if you don't understand something I said...I'll keep an eye on this topic.

I am also having the same problems, except I can't even read my firmware. I've been at it for 8 hours. I have tried all the differen combinations of the 'mtkflash r orig.bin' command but no luck. All I keep getting is status = 00, or 51, or 80 should be 70.

I'm using a shuttle sn25p which also has the nf4 chipset

any help would be great

hello
first off, i have nf4, i just reinstalled windows, without installing mother boards sata drivers.
it boots up.

Hardware manager recognizes  the samsung drive as a diskdrive not a cd or dvd drive?
I have been able to flash and all but this one is really getting on my nerves..

For those still having trouble with the NF4 chipset try this.

1. Set bios to boot from cd first

2. Connect SATA cable from xbox 360 DVD-ROM drive to pc SATA #3 with nothing on 4 (dont forget to connect a croc clip jumper from xbox chassis to pc chassis for ground)

3. Boot using Slax cd

4. After slax boots you shouldn't have to wait for log in: prompt just until it hangs and screen says drive is in Modeb (to check this eject Xbox 360 drive it should take to button press to close then after a couple seconds it will eject on its own) you are now in Modeb.

5. Hit the reset button on pc to boot up windows

6. Now install latest NVidia chipset drivers download here http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

7. After install forces reboot drive should be visible.

Hope this helps worked great for me and now that drive is flashed I just use the open tray unplug trick to force Modeb.

P.S. I am using an ECS KN1 Lite Main board, and please no flaming for repeating pieces of other guides I just don't like posts full of links I think it just confuses people.

the scribble part is usually fast, i see my two optical drives listed but dont get to see a lot of other things. anyone can also asnwer if they have a clue as to whats going on. thanks.

I have a DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb motherboard and was unable to boot into windows with the drive plugged in although i was able to flash my drive in dos with no problems. Windows would either hang at startup or bluescreen if I tried to plug in my drive after startup. I though I could give this fix a shot even though it said it was for nF4 chipsets and it worked. Just though I would post my results for others that might have the same problem. THIS WORKS WITH NFORCE3 chipsets.
