| More to the point has anyone tried to run Blazing Lazers. The rom works on my PC through Magic Engine so I know it's good. |
What happens when you try to run it? Seems to run fine for me.
Nothing happens. I get a black screen and the music from hugo keeps playing. I do have access to the in-game menus via the right analog but the game doesn't load.

Press X on the game selection screen. You know, there is an option on the main menu called "Help"....
Yeah good advice. (dripping with sarcasm)

I'm not a dumb ass.
Lemme rephrase for clarity. I can browse to the .pce file and open it but instead of going to the game I just get a black screen. No buttons work except the r-analog which opens the in game menu.
XPort - if the in-game menu opens I must be in the game so opening the file is not the problem. Don't mean to be rude but I take offense when people assume I haven't read the help file, the readme file, and the faq at the website as well as all the hugo posts here.
....so have you actually pressed X on the game-selection screen (instead of A)? If so you would have seen the "game configuration" screen pop up....and from that menu you can toggle the US bit-flipped setting.
I had this problem too! But it's weird.. the rom USED to work but then all of a sudden it became the only rom that would start with a black screen and stay there.. and yeah it was Blazing Lazers.
I found though that when I clear the archived settings with Hugo and basically start it off fresh, the rom worked again! Strange... My initial guess is it was some corrupt thing within a auto-loaded state or save file? Doesn't matter.. it's fixed now
P.S. Hugo doesn't run Blazing Lazers very well... the sound levels kind of messed up and that's half the fun of the game. You don't really hear the voices for each power up or the sharp explosions. And there are other sounds that are just wonky, muffled, or just plain absent. But what can you do I guess *shrug*.. As long as you know it's not exactly the most accurate emulation, you can still have a blast :)
yeah when I press x I get the game config but none of that helped. I actually got it working on hugo version 9 (was using ver. 10). No idea why but oh well it's working great now.
xport - really didn't mean any offense. thank you for the advice. just took it more bitterly than I should have. my apologies. too many late nights I guess.
