Title: Super Mario World
Post by: noomski on March 29, 2004, 01:44:00 PM
biggrin.gif  . Well as always there will be some people who already know about this. Hell, it's probably been mentioned on the main site at some point, but theres been sooooooo many news articles......Anyway.. I found this the other day:-

http://fusoya.cg-games.net/ (go straight to the download section of 'Lunar Magic') which as you will see is an extremely clever editor made for Super Mario World. Now i'm not sure if it works on the xbox (but can't see any reason why not), as I haven't tried it yet. However I'm sure you will agree that we are all going to be late for work/uni/school from now on thanks to very little sleep indeed.

Also, thanks to one of the leading games magazines for bringing this to my attention.

WOW.

I was aware of ROM level editors and infact had dabbled with a Super Mario Bros' DOS based level editor about 4 or 5 years ago, but found the editor to be too much of a guessing game and gave up.

This editor on the other hand looks VERY promising. I've got it installed and am beginning to learn it.

 Thankx for the post!

This... is awesome.  People should start posting their homebrewed levels up here.  I'm gonna do one soon, letcha know how it goes.

I've been spending my last couple of days learning the editor and working on a project. In many cases it is simple as heck, then in other cases it can be a tad bit confusing, but over all amazing!

I definatly intend to write tutorials for this in time when I get better (as there are NONE at the moment).

I'll be looking very forward to that tutorial!! This thing is so amazing! I can't wait to toss my level up here, and have you guys take a shot! I'm still playing around with this program, but indeed, a tutorial will surely help me lots!

Make sure you are using the 1.0 version of the ROM and not 1.1.

As for expanding roms, there is a tool on the Lunar Magic web site called Expander I believe that does this...

My thoughts exactly. While super mario world was my favorite mario game, im not sure if i could make my own levels and enjoy them. I think i would rather let someone else spend hours of their free time for my personal enjoyment = )

Must have been something seriously wrong with my rom (or me =)). I was certin that I had copied it from the U[!] source (it was renamed, by me, for some unapparent reason), but obviously not. Anyway, it all works now.  Thanks!

Btw. Some of the hacks in the Mario World Plus series are HARD!

Yes I've noticed. It took me about 2 hours just to figure out the damn ExGFX packs (or rather to understand the help I was given on the matter), then about another Hour to figure out the warp pipes.
The pipes seemed simple once I got them figured out, but the ExGFX packs are giving me a fit. Seems that they insert and work fine on the level you are using them on, but then if you switch to another level they seem to find a way to corrupt things and force you to start all over. :/
