Title: Nme 2.0 Install
Post by: fightclub on March 27, 2009, 06:38:00 PM
so i ordered my nme 2.0 yesterday and it has shipped... i know what most people say... "chipping a dvd drive is a waste"... well ive always preferred chipping to softmods because you can always disable a chip... anyways... i have done PLENTY of research and the only install instructions i can find are from the NME website... they are kinda lousy... does anyone know of some good install pics? or at least some more descriptive instructions? where to mount the chip? guage wiring to use? etc... thanks all

Hi! I have actually tried to do that myself, and my DVD drive wont work.
I have Philips/BenQ. I did everything as instructed. Also soldered Y-cord for disabling LAN.
After wiring every cord, connected the cables I get blinking green light, my dvd drive won't eject. I press A to open tray on screen nothing is happening. I dn;t know why this is happening, everything went ok. My brother did the same thing on his BenQ it is working.

The only thing I assume is that one of the points on drive that needs to be soldered(point A), it was covered with silicon, and I tried to remove it, with sharp object, probably it caused somekind of damage to it.

Well, I will try my luck with another xbox. Good luck to you though!

use 30AWG Kynar wire ($2.99 for 50ft at radio shack)

I mount the NME on the rear back corner of the drive nearest the HDD and route the wires above the power connector.

got it installed the other day... soldering wasnt bad at all but wire management actually gave me the most grief... oh well... everything works as advertised but the network off point for the benq tutorial is wrong... i was advised to use the same point from the other two drives and that did the trick... all is well now... woot!

Nice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Good job! How did you manage to get the silicone off from soldering points? Mine was in only one, that is what I think which messed up mine. Hopefully I am getting new one soon, I will give a shot again.

the silicon left one solder point completely uncovered and enough of the second solder point uncovered to attach the wire... i guess i lucked out

I have heard that you have to hold the power button for 1 second for it to work on BenQ (ONLY!).

that is correct

You know there is the alternate point for "A", right?  It's the second lead on the 0802.  They show it on the site too.  And yes, you must hold the power button for a second, the reason behind wire Q.
