Is there something I have to do to activate the chip? or should it just auto-detect?
...
Are you holding in the power button for 1 second when turning the XBox on?
I don't mean to be patronising, but you have to do this to enable the chip.

i sure did. i loaded up a game and it worked but when i try to turn it off and on again, it doesn't work. we're talking the same backup too.
maybe the wires are not getting enough power? i used a 30awg so im sure it should be fine.

I think its your media that you are using, what kind of DVD's are you using?
try and find single discs or small packs of DL DVDS, try out a couple diff brands and see what ones work and what ones dont work, its very picky, very very picky.

15 packs verbatim dual layers - made in singapore ... it was like 40 bucks at best buy compared to 3 with jewel case for 18
burned at 2.4x with imgburn - i click the .dvd so i dont have to set the layer break manually
burned with a pioneer 111d with latest firmware - no change from previous firmware

ONLY REQUIRED ON BEN-Q DRIVES, since the Benq does not automatically turn the mod on or off, you have to manually, turn the mod on and off.

THIS IS A known hitachi issue if you use the offical diagrams, which are WRONG for 0078 and 0079, to correct this issue, move your ground point to TP-805 (straight toward the front of the drive onthe PCB)
-
Did you close the jumper on the chip?
-
QUOTE(mikerzt @ Apr 2 2008, 05:02 PM)

i did move the ground point already to 805. it wouldn't have booted my game if i didn't move it.
i'll restate the problem. i leave the power plug out for a couple days. i plug it in and load up a game and it works perfectly. the moment i exit the game or try to insert another game, it gives me the insert into xbox 360 error. i even try to load the same game that worked and it won't even load whether i leave the plug in or out.
and did you mean move the ground point on the mainboard? or the drive's board?
TP805 is int he dvd drive, I see this issue allot on the 0079 drives, it is a defect and I have sent close to 30 emails to NME guys asking them to correct the issue, they state there is no issue and it is my install not the mod, so I guess I have done over 100 defective installs according to them. They just don't want to admit there is an issue that only affects a small percentage of 0079 drives.
What I ended up doing is removing the TSOP and programming it as a 0078 to crrect the issue

QUOTE(mikerzt @ Apr 4 2008, 08:16 AM)

yeah, it was the first thing i did since i have the hitachi drive
thanks, i'll open the dvd case again tomorrow and check it out. i'm not sure about programming it. is it hard?
k so i checked the wiring and everything looks fine. no wires are touching one another. ground point is on the correct spot. i even laced another wire from point a to the screw hole just in case. i went as far as replacing the chip too and its not working.
-
the 0078 and 0079 drives have this issue! I have done many of them some work perfectly and some have this issue your referring to.
I have repeatedly told NME team about these issues and they keep telling me it is not the mod it is my install, LOL, even though I have done over 100 installs and I guess they all are bad.
seems they have no plans in correcting the issue nor correcting there diagrams

Now you're going to think this is strange, and believe me, i did too.
I installed a 2.0 in a 79FK drive, Elite console
Initially when i did the install i forgot to close the J1 jumper i did not fill it with solder.
once i had done everything i remembered about it, and figured it would be best if i did as instructed, so i opened it all back up and put solder on the spot for the J1 jumper, closed back up again, and it wasnt spinning my discs at all, originals or backups.
removed the solder from the spot, and they went back to working again. Originals and backups.
its very picky as to the media that it will play backups from too.
so good luck, i would suggest removing the solder from the J1 tho, as that is what helped me out.

i have done that also works on some but not all
