Title: Mod Chip For Benq Vad6038
Post by: conquestor on September 29, 2007, 05:17:00 PM
What mod chip (If any) can I use with a Benq? One that can be turned off for xbox live would be best.

If none are available, is there any other way to play backed up games?

none yet, there are flashing procedures available, but no cracked firmware, no way to play backups yet either and best bet to play on live safely is without a chipped/modded drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

there not even really flashable procedures yet are there?  From what I know the only thing readily possible is the extracting of the BenQ drive key, then swapping it for an older flashable drive.

You can flash the Benq drive just as easily as reading it.  The same technique is used to put the drive into recovery mode, then you can do what you like with it.  The only problem is that if you want your drive to actually work, then the only thing you can flash it with is your original firmware, for now...

Modified firmware is on the way.  People who watch the scene will know this already.  There's a video of a Philips PC DVD drive playing a backup of Blue Dragon on a 360, apparently using retail Benq firmware.  Whether it's retail firmware with a hardware mod, or a beta version of C4E's ixtreme for Benq is yet to be revealed.  The "retail" firmware bit kind of rules out ixtreme though, in my opinion.

yea thats what I heard too.  Thats why everyone with the BenQ for now is just swapping it until a firmware comes out for it.

Is there anyone who knows how close we are to a sollution of this problem mayby some insder knowledge :-)

It is flashed with modified BenQ retail firmware, which i guess you could equate to Xtreme firmware.  It is not a beta version from c4e, as that should come out for testing this weekend (hopefully).  They simply modified the firmware to read backups, the same as all the other firmwares work.  All the information is readily available on how to hack the firmware and if you have the background knowledge,  you can do it fairly easily.

Is there any kind of update/progress that's worth mentioning on this topic?

I tried searching, for some reason the search function isn't working for me at the moment.

I just bought the arcade version, with the BenQ drive..and I'm interested in playing backed up games.
