I was just wondering if there has been any progress on an actual modchip that will allow homebrew applications instead of just the backup booting crap modchips that have been going around.

No. The closest we have is the HV exploit in 4532 and 4548, which allows us to execute our own code. Dont expect to see an actual modchip anytime soon.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think there was any real progress but i figured i'd ask.

well from standard knowledge from modding arround the gaming scene if you have a exploit then preserve the code that the exploit runs on. for instance in the PSP sony upgraded the firmware to disallow modding and the only modchip forces the downgrade. now i know that the 360 dash has been updated, and i know that its common belief that the dash in held in the flash chip on the mobo. what would stop someone from creating a chip that like the 39 wire bios replacement on the xbox 1 and the PSP would like the PSP force the 360 to run the old firmware and might unfortunately connect with the dreded 39 wire mod but other wise what i just said would be a marketable modchip granted you have solder points

Well, it wouldnt be 39 wire. The NAND only has like 12 active legs or something like that (look at the infectus pinout, it'll tell you). The problem is, each kernel is encrypted with the fuseset values embedded in the cpu, which are different for each 360. So, you can't have a kernel that works for all, as it needs to be encrypted for each box. If you dont have your fuseset values, you couldnt re-encrypt a kernel to work with your box, even if it was possible.

Why would someone even want to do a 39 wire install for the Xbox anyway? There have been solderless chips that do this for looong time now, and even still there are chips that only need 3 wires installed.

We are talking about the xbox360 and some foo was referring to the original chips for xbox that booted in parallel to the tsop, not off of the lpc.

Yea I know, I was just wondering why anyone nowadays would want to do a 39 wire install for the original xbox if all you wanted to do was change the bios.

If you want to flash the tsop on an xbox1 but it is entirely corrupt, a 29-wire Xray, which boots in parallel, is pretty much the only way to do so. There are some other methods that may work but are not a sure thing. Other than that, there is no reason to use one anymore on an original xbox.

Do you know what ever happened to the Devil360? Supposedly made by the Spider Team, this chip was supposed to come out on 6-6-2006 (hence the Devil). They claimed ability to boot unsigned code, and many other features, in close relation to what we have done with the original Xbox.

ya seriously I hate it when ppl get our hopes up on that kind of stuff!
PS is BUNNIE working on cracking the 360, or did he only need to do 1 project and get his credits. and lose interest?

I wouldn't hold your breath its going to be a very long time...
Plus unless you have an older exploitable kernel you are going to be out of luck..
By the time a good hack gets fully worked out those boxes are going to be rare.
