MY system has been working great for backups and orginal games with the NME v1.2. My latest issue I believe started a day or so after I put in my son's new game of TMNT and it asked to upgrade the firmware....of course he hit yes. Just the other day my system gave me the error code of E65 and now will not work. I got it once to open up the DVD tray and was able to load Ghost Reacon 2, but it froze on the movie and now I am stuck with the E65.
Do you have any idea on this one? A possible wire issue or did my chip get screwed with the upgrade?
-
Upgrade did not affect your chip. I have TMNT and played original/backup fine. Still works fine.
May be a wire issue.

Well I could not find the edit button, so I am adding that it is not the 1.2, but 1.1 for Samsung. I am wondering what would cause the E65?
Thanks!!

Usually a short or unconnected wire... Redo your installation. A wire may have come loose.

I do not have a modchip, instead i have to modified firmware on my dvd drive, this has been working for some time now but as soon as i updated with this game it is giving me the same error you are talking about, just wondering whether you got to the bottom of it, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Well I chcecked all leads and saw nothing wrong. I talked to someone who believes the flash of the drive must of gotten hosed and it needs reflashed. I will let you know what happens and if that is the fix. Also I am going to ohm out the lines on the chip.
Thanks for those of you that posted their thoughts!!

I probably a little late posting this but anyway an E65 usually means a firmware error, or it could even mean that the DVD tray is not properly alligned (doubt thats what is wrong here though).
Anyway, if it wouldn't hurt, I would try taking the NME chip out (or at least the voltage to where the chip isn't connected) so that you can test to see if everything still works normally.
If it doesnt work without the chip, you could have a number of problems. First off, depending on where you soldered your 5v point, that could be the first problem. If you used the 3rd leg on the top of SST chip (counting from right), check to make sure that is still in good form. Then, make sure the trace going from the that 3rd leg to the original 5v solder point is good. Then make sure that the brown cap right next to the 5v solder point is good. If all that is good, then you probably dont have a voltage problem. Good?
Then make sure that your point A to the SST chip is good, and that the trace leading from the SST chip to the other chips are good.
Also, it could be a firmware problem, but I doubt that the update would have done that because NME chips dont modify the firmware in any way, they just add to it. Seeing as how someone with a successful install doesnt have any problems playing TMNT, I doubt that is the problem.
If all that is correct, then classify me as stumped.

Well it might be something with the tray, because it will not open up. Also when I was able to get it to open up and load a DVD, it froze then I had to keep trying to get the DVD out. When I did the DVD had gotten a lovely ring (scratch) around it and screwed it up.
I will try first maybe to take the leads off the chip and see how things playt out, then I will also check all wiring which was done by the place that I bought it from. I did not see anything come loose the first time I looked, but I will follow what you said step by step....thanks!!

Ok, that definately sounds like a 5v problem. Check to make sure, like I said, that everything is ok, and make sure no other capasitors or transistors have been damaged around where the installation was done.
To shorten it up, I ruined my 5v point on a Samsung drive before, and the first thing I noticed (besides the E65) was that it would not open the tray.

Well the easy way to isolate the chip was very easy....thanks to the guys at modchip.ca who installed it for me. I should have realized this earlier, but the the chip is sitting in a socket. After I removed the chip I still get the E65 error, so it is looking like an issue with the drive now!?!?

In a socket? Can you post pictures?
Hmmm whoever told you that the firmware on the drive itself may have been fried - may be correct.
Hmm... thats just weird. I'm still in wonderment about the socket you speak of... I dont remember any chips being socketed. Maybe the nme1.0 or the clones. Hmm...
I'd ask modchip.ca what exactly they installed and how...
The modchip shouldn't have done anything to your firmware itself. i have seen E6# errors before, but it was because either there was a short or one wire was not connected.
But if the drive fails without the chip.... then I'd have to agree the firmware got hosed somehow. Maybe a short popped it?...
Good luck, and please let us know what you come up with. and post any pictures. I like pictures

I just wanted to give a quick update on this. I was hoping to have a local Modchip installer I found off of this check out my issue, but they seemed to just play email tag with me so it never panned out. I checked all connections with nothin I could see being an issue.
The guys at modchip.ca who installed my chip just had me ship them back to them and would help me out....I'll let you all know what happens there.
I took some pictures of it, but do not have a site to post them and did not open anything on rapidshare, so if someone else wants to do that I will send them your way.
Later....and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will be playing in the next week.

Just go to www.imageshack.us and upload them there (its fast and free) and then post the direct links to them here.
