Title: Xeno-360 Any Good?
Post by: STEye on February 02, 2007, 06:14:00 PM
Has anyone had any good results with this chip?  I was waiting to order the NME 1.2 from a vendor, but it is out of stock.  They offered this chip instead, and said it was "new"...  Here is the chip's website: http://www.xeno-360.com/index.html   I am wondering how it compares to the NME.

I am also waiting on the NME 1.2 and considering substituting this chip.  Would love to here from someone who has it.

Sounds like it could be the same supplier I deal with. I have also been waiting for the NME 1.2 but the company that make the chip have let everyone down by repeatedly failing to deliver.  mad.gif  My supplier is now stocking the xeno 360 and I have got one coming now and are keen to see if it is a new version or not, as is described. Bit confused though because there is nothing "new" mentioned on their site and the wire count seems a little underestimated. All in all though, they seem like a quality item. I'll try to let you know how I go.

My confusion with this chip is they say you have to press and hold the eject button for a few seconds to turn on and off the chip.  I wonder if this means it does not automatically sense a backed up game and enable the chip?  The distributor's site says the network can be disabled when chip is on, but I cannot find the same information anywhere else regarding that.

Looks good except there are some very tiny solder points I am not too crazy about especially solder point #8 and #9. Is alternate solder point #2 equal to NME 1.2 solder point I ? Still waiting for my NME 1.2.

I dont think it will do the auto sensing like NME. The only advantage i found about this chip is it has a LED light built on the modchip (not sure wither, and i dont see how that's useful cuz the chip is inside the xbox). I am sticking with my NME, even though foundmy.com doesn't have the offer.

Good news Everyone!
My Xeno chip turned up yesterday and was a breeze to install.
You only need a minimum of wires to connect. The only extra is the eject wire over the NME as you manually turn the chip on by holding it on for 5 secs - Big Deal - thats when the onscreen starts and the  power led goes off if you add the option. Pin 8 is optional for network off - same as NME and pin 9 is optional behind the front pcb for a centre power led off feature when the chip is enabled. Got this info from my supplier.
Its smaller than it appears to be and fitted neatly on top of the main chip on my samsung drive. It seemed to be the most secure spot and still had clearance from the laser above.
I made my backups using the samsung sh-d162c, pioneer dvr-111d & NME tools and it runs flawlessly. This was tooooo easy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

How doesnt it work? If you did the power led off option the centre led will go out if you hold the eject button for long enough at boot up. This means the chip is on but doesnt mean that you have done the critical points on the drive correctly. If you didnt add this bit in then just hold eject till you see the onscreen start.
If you mean that it doesnt work coz it wont read backups then I would look closely at how you are making them if you are confident that you installed the chip correctly.

im sure that my wiring is correct but when i hold the eject for 5 seconds the middle led turn off and the led of the chip turns on (RED LIGHT) but when i put a back up game in the drive it says unrcognised disc and when i put an orginal game it says TO PLAY THIS DISC U NEED TO PUT IT IN AN XBOX360 CONSOLE and when i restart the console the led of the chip goes off  and the orginal game work perfectly can u tell me how to identifiy the problem i have been waiting for this chip since along time and when i got it the chip didnt work im really disappointed

That's the reason it's not working.  The Xeno-360 doesn't support xtreme backups.  They need to be converted to NME-Format using a program called NME associator.  You can find it and instructions on how to use it here.  http://www.nme-360.com/howto.html

Hey Haygar:

How small of a solder point is pin 8? It looks awfully small.  I am just about ready to get this chip since the nme is delay for way too long. Can you get some pictures and post?

Hi, yeah its pretty fine pin 8 but if you have ever done/seen a ps2 mod its about as fine as the bios chip in those but here its only one wire. I pre-tin (solder) the pins like these before I attempt to attach the wire. It makes the job a lot simpler and if you blob across to another pin desolder wick is indispensable to remove the excess.  Bear in mind that this is only an optional wire though to disable the network when the chip is on for Live and its unclear whether Microsoft can detect some of these mods yet. You just have to make sure yourself that you dont go on Live if your chip is on. So if you dont want to do that pin leave it out but I would do the power led off pin 9 so you know whether the chip is on. Power led off means chip is on.
I havent got any pics of my own at present but the diagrams are here if you havent seen them yet. http://www.xeno-360.com/diagrams.html

Your chip is more than likely ok. My mate and I are having some issues with backups giving the PUT IN A XBOX 360 message with some backups.
Also some backups that work on his dont necessarily work on mine. We both have used the correct NME tools and both have the sh-d162c reader. My burner is a pioneer 111d and his is a 108 and using verbatims.
For example his working backup of saints row has only booted once on mine. His 360 firmware, ms28 and mine, ms25.
By the way does your centre led go off the instant you press the eject button. Mine will, but if its not held long enough it will come back on. My mate is away at the moment but he seems sure that the led goes off AFTER 5 secs. rolleyes.gif

I'll answer your question and if you could help with mine that would be good.
I got my drive off ebay, some were offered with the kreon software already done at a small price but I wouldnt worry about that coz it's easy to flash.
My question was if anyone could confirm the behavior of the centre led when booting the xeno 360  uhh.gif chip. I am experiencing some weird behavior when the console is booted it will normally reject my backups until after approx 1 minute after which it will boot known good backups every time.

hey Haygar I also have the same problem with the xeno360 I have check my wiring and solder points (not much to check as there are very few) I do get the same error message "to play this disc..." I'm thinking it may a problem with the chips themselves, I'm still waiting response from seller to see if I get any tech support I'll keep u guys posted  wink.gif

Yeah, but how are you doing your backups and with what drives in your pc and blank media, etc?
I can burn my own backups and they will run no problem everytime once the chip has decided to kick into gear but there is a delay in the time this happens after boot up. After this it works perfect even when swapping discs.
But the weird thing is the way the led doesnt hold on for 5 seconds like its supposed to.

Wassup guys wink.gif I got the XENO360 V.2 chip. It was easy to install. The points 2, 3 & 4 were tricky though!
But it's done. The only problem is, i couldnt boot up a backup of CONDEMNED. I followed the instructions
from NME-360. Created the image with "DVD DRIVE SH-D163A" & using "Schtrom" then i converted it with NME aSSociat0r. Okay, almost done... So finaly I burned it with "ImgBurn" using "Black Pioneer DVR-110D"
But when i burned the disc, instead of following these instructions:

Burning the game:
- in the mainscreen of ImgBurn select your image file (IMAGE1.000)
- click write to burn your backup

Well i did this: Without even thinking I opened the (IMAGE1.dvd)
Yeah, it worked. ImgBurn did its thing but when it was done when i tried it
It didnt boot up... So im going to try it again & this time making sure i open (image1.000).
Im hoping this is the problem... After i do that & still not working then Im guessing is the media.
Im using MEMOREX DVD+R DL. I'll let you guys know how it goes... Im crossing my fingers...

Any fighters here...? I'll challenge you wink.gif SPIKTSU

From my other post Mr. X-S Enthusiast any tips you can give me regarding what i did...
Im at work right now... But when i get home i will work on that & see how it goes...
Hopefully that's the only issue smile.gif ...Thanx for your time.

If there was a way to make the Xeno-360 either always on, or an external switch that allowed always on, I'd like it more (I'd like it A LOT more if it had auto detection).

But if someone can figure out a way to wire up an always on switch (so that even when turned on via wireless controller, the chip was activated), i'd use it and wire that up for my customers.

Hi everyone,

Installed a XENO 360 v2, got the LED coming on the chip and the center LED on the power button is off - I am assuming this means the chip is working? I cannot play backups or originals when chip is activated, but can play originals fine when chip is off (center LED is on and XENO LED is off).

Any ideas to what I may have done wrong? It is not the backups, I am 100% sure - it is a wiring thing but I can't seem to faulter my soldering - I have done many XBOXs and PS2s and never had problems.

If anyone can shed some light it would be fantastic.

Cheers,

Monty82
