Title: Is It Possible To Get Banned?
Post by: bonevichio on July 05, 2006, 12:10:00 PM
Sorry to say - but no one really knows yet.  We cannot tell if M$ can detect the chip.  My feeling is - eventually they will be checking somehow and start banning on live.

I can't say for 100% sure that playing an original using the chip and on live will get you banned.

You could probably install a switch somehow.

Until the product's out and people try, no one knows. BUT if you really want to play on Live and not get banned, how about not bothering with a mod? That should guarantee you won't get banned!

he is right you know... The other fact is that we have no way of easily changing eeproms on a $400+tax videogame machine smile.gif

p.s. the main reason MS banned people on the orig xbox live wasnt to stop pirates. It was infact to stop cheaters. MS didnt think a cheat device could be made for the orig xbox. However, a modchip wouldve allowed hackers to cheat in games etc etc. MS decided to ban mod users to help keep xbox live alive...

hm...thanks for the info guys.

I think it will be safe to put in this modchip, at least because Team Underdog says that it will turn of automaticallly if an original is put in..

I know, even then its not guaranteed, but I need that modchip!

As has been stated all over these boards, they can just as easily put the checks into the dashboard and ban you even when you're not playing on live.   New games could require an update that has the checks built in.

Is it possible, yes?  Is it probable, yes.  I think it's just a matter of time.

If MS was able to detect the mod on Xbox then I see no reason why they couldnt detect it on 360.  I think I am going to purchase a core and mod it.

First off lemme say i am not against xbox modchips. I myself am waiting for a solid one, Maybe some homebrew. Everything i have seen so far does not impress me... So i am waiting. Now, modifying your console in anyway and fucking with online play.. Its only asking to get banned. How they see it, You are cheating them... And from a companys stand point i can understand why a user would get banned for cheating them.

Personally, I can't stand software thievery, but it really won't have all that much impact on their business unless it gets to the point of not having to solder anything. But that said, they still need to shut it down if they can to keep the publishers from getting all worked up. If publishers think that pirates will kill their sales, they'll leave the system. And that will kill it faster than anything. So they will need to make a show of it.

They will definitely care if a real mod chip happens since that will potentially allow cheaters on Live, and they won't stand for that.

I am sure they will implement bans on any modified box they detect on Live. Whether or not they can detect teh NME chip is a matter of guesswork right now. I suspect they will find a way to do it. It wouldn't surprise me if they came up with something that made it so if a mod is detected the system simply won't work at all.

If I were MS, I would come up with a detection scheme and do nothing until Gears of War or Halo 3 ship then come down hard.

The funny thing is Xbox live at least if you have it on auto sign on, which I would believe most people would use if they actually used xbox live as it adds cool features even to playing solo, such as global scores and etc. you would think the MS would be naturally completely evading the mod scene. On the otherside, how is MS going to be able to tell what firmware you are using the dvd drive? I suppose when the xbox 360 loads, it has a status check of all the firmware and then puts that in a chip during the log of the boot, then it sends it to xbox live? Wouldn't it be easy to make a chip to hold that information, telling MS that the numbers were correct? How does MS know if XYZ is coming from Chip one or Chip two?

I keep telling people.. ALL MS has to do is query the backup disc and it looks different.

So the xbox can record every time you load backup and easily ban on live if they wish.

It has nothing to do with detecting the firmware.. the discs are different.

But can M$ distinguish between a backup and retail (even if they are different) from the LIVE server?  Maybe the modified firmware prohibits them from making this distinction. If they CAN tell the difference then a Stealth firmware is useless, right?

I refuse to go on LIVE because of all this uncertainty. My opinion is that if they launch Halo 3 and still haven't banned anyone, they never will.

They don't have to do it from the live server.  The do make you install updates all the time.  They can (or maybe already have) do it with a kernel update.

I don't go on LIVE like I said. The only update I had to make so far was on MotoGP06. Do you think they could have put something in that?

thats my point.. they can do anything they want.... and to Savage's comment.. this thread was asking if it is possible.. the answer is YES. I don't care if people are worried or not.

I agree about the Halo 3 release.
