Title: What Are My Firmware Update Options If I Want To Eventually Hack It?
Post by: Haygar on July 21, 2011, 05:11:00 AM
If you're talking about official MS firmware updates, there are none you can do that won't patch your exploitable console. You're on the deadline for the jtag hackable dash update.

If I were you I'd be jtagging that rig right now before anything else, trust me you won't look back if you take your time doing it and do it right. wink.gif

Edit: Of course this is presuming that it's got a CB of 6723 or less, which you will have to dump the nand to make sure. If it's 6750 it's a no-go. Also, the build date needs to be before mid june '09.

Interesting.   So... conversely, if I can establish that the CB (which is?) is 6750+ and build of 6/09 or later, then there's no point to dreaming about a crack?   What about the DVD hacks, does that only allow you to play "backups" ?

I was interested in the xbox as media player because it's already configured (hw+soft) to do that, I have a remote, etc.   Considering the trouble of jtag-ing (esp as a newbie), I might go the HTPC route.    The question then is ---- if it is hackable and unhacked, can I charge a premium for the unit on ebay?

I don't use this thing for anything else.  I got it to play Halo 3 and that was a severe disappointment.
