Title: Some Games Will Not Run From Ext Hdd

I feel like this is the correct forum to post in... we'll see.

My xbox play's games from the external drive 90% of the time, but some titles (such as GTA4 & Forza 3) will not play. I hit the xex file in xexmenu, freedash, or via nxe/quickboot, and it just goes to a black screen. GTA4 actually locks up the controller and xbox completely. I've tried leaving and removing the system update folders with no change.

I can rip the iso with iso2god and it will play off of my small internal 20G drive with no problem, so the iso is fine.

Any thoughts?

You can also play GOD games off an external hdd if you put the game in the same folder structure as the internal hdd.

Why did I not know that....?

Will NXE scan an ext drive, or will I still need to run from another dash? No biggie if you don't answer. I'll give it a shot when I get home this evening. Thanks for the quick response!

I don't remember if it will work from the NXE, but it should work from FreeStyle Dash.

and it works. It doesn't make sense why yet, but I'll just play the games for now and figure it out later. Thanks for the tip!

It does not work from the nxe. I like using the nxe over freestyle, but if I only have to switch for a couple of games then it isn't the end of the world.

Are you sure you didn't have bad rips of those games or something? GTA4 runs fine for me off my external drive.

I'm not totally sure. If I make a GOD version from the same file it does work. I don't know enough of how the GOD process differs from the normal rip process to know if it matters. To play it safe I'll re-rip and try it. I haven't messed with it in days since it was working, but it is a PITA since I can't run everything from NXE now, and have to use Freestyle to run a couple of GOD games from my ext drive.

I'll let you know what happens. At least I learned that you could run GOD from an ext drive smile.gif
