Just a question, when can we expect to see an updated 9199 version of XBR?
-
Yeah, I know... But the reason asking is because that 9199 has the ability to store DLC and profiles on Flash Drives/USB hard drives, so that will be a lot easier putting homebrew apps on a USB stick than just bringing your HDD to your pc to transfer 1 app.
-
awwww lol all the jtagers cant get on xbl :'(
keep homebrew offline !

do agree tho the saving to usb will be a cool feature to have on the jtag console

You can update xbr with flash360 1.0, so you dont need to connect to your pc.
-
if u got xbr3 then u have xell and just update to xellous by renaming xell-1f.bin to updxell.bin...this will update to xellous...then u can dump ur nand to your pc via firefox ....dump the kv/config and inject into xbr4 and rename to updflash.bin and flash ur 360 back using usb key.
similar to this guide here

you can allready use usb sticks for dlc just move them from usb to HDD in xexmenu or freestyle.
and as far as i know you can run games and homebrew straight from usb.
only thing update change is the ability to save your profile and savegames to the usb in games.

Yeah, True. But you wont be able to see your apps in the NXE.

I disagree with this. Assuming people own the games on their jtagged 360s, who's to say they shouldn't mod it and go online with it? After a while a game can get boring, and modding it is the only fun thing left to do. This is what happened with Halo 1 on the pc and it didn't hurt sales or anything at all, in fact it probably boosted sales.
i guess im content though... they did give us forge
Mod away with all the games they want. Just leave it OFFLINE just like Halo 1.
As stated there is no place for homebrew, game mods and Live. And there never will be.
-
Ok, i agree homebrew shouldn't be online UNLESS the game developers put a designing thing into there game then you use there designer to make your homebrew maps. I'm not sure if this is a feature, but there needs to be a way to connect to a friends xbox, like in another state and play with your mods with him / her, in my opinion it would be fine because they would know you are modding, modding can be fun to play around with friends so if its not a feature i hope it becomes a feature.

It's hard not to chuckle at posts like some of these.
You got the guy with 3 xbox's, two of which are already 9199 and he's worried about hurrying up to get his jtag box updated when it doesn't even need it and won't for some time.
Then you got the guy that thinks you should be able to do whatever you want online, etc with your xbox, but just stop and think for a moment. If you created something like an Xbox 360 gaming console, you wouldn't really want people hacking it apart and doing whatever they please on it. You just aren't sitting in their perspective.
I'll agree, they could loosen up a bit, but it's not like what they are doing is in any way out of the norm. Playstation has it's own network, MMORPG companies run strict servers, so on and so forth.

I don't see the point in hampering online modding. People took Halo 1 mods online all the time. Hence, Halo Custom Edition. I realize PC gaming is a totally different arena but that's because you can't do whatever you want to your computer. We're not quite there with an Xbox but we're making progress.
I don't mod games anymore, heck, i hardly even play, but I enjoy a creative scene. If only we could host our own dedicated servers. Why support Microsoft's monopoly of online gaming? Live isn't nearly good enough for me to support it right now
Dude even with 9199 you would not be able to go online. When you have a Jtagged xbox you get banned within minutes of connecting. And their is absolutely no place for mods or Jtags online as already stated.
You want to know what the problem is with it??? ITS CHEATING , you can't cheat when people pay for a service and a level of enjoyment. The writers of XBR do not want it to go online for 1 very very simple reason. As soon as they make it able to be undetected MS will crack down very hard on the whole scene , cheating is not looked on as a joke in online multiplayer , just like the dumbass kids doing MW2 glitches , that shit is dumb and childish. It comes down to the simple fact that the guys who make the software are not ever going to try and make it for online use , they don't want the heat , and it is a big deal depsite what you think.
Honestly if more people would play on Xlink it would get better , the reason we can't find anyone within our area with a low enough ping is because nobody plays it , your chances of getting someone close enough are very slim.

I totally agree. But the main reason why I started this topic out was, that I was just only wondering how the XBR team was progressing. Mainly because they added in USB storage to be allowed to be used as a memcard, which can possibly be manipulated by the dev's behind XBR, to do many other things... ex.) Allowing more than 16GB's to be used, etc...
-
Bit of a sticky subject this one - in one hand it's not going to be long until games require the dash, on the other you've got cheating going on online.
My own 2p's worth - I don't think blocking Live access on XBR4 (or whoever releases an update of XBR v.3) is really the way to go, even though I do not take JTAG's online. For me it's simple - if I end up in a cheats lobby online, I back out, I mean, people mod controllers to do the same, so how are you going to stop them? If people want to cheat, they will - if you release a Live blocked XBR then it's simple enough to re-enable Live.
Also, if you fancy pitying people, have a look at the top 200 or so MW2'ers - ooh look, you got in the top by paying to get there, and it's not even your proper GT.
It all boils down to what you want out of games really - if you enjoy playing them and becoming better at them, then you won't cheat - just feel pity for the one's that do.

Well, now that a new version of freeBOOT is out, I guess this topic is now out of the question...
-
im very much in the no jtag online camp, id be fine if XBR4 removes live support, as long as it can go out onto the net normally for 3rd party updates, time servers etc thats all we need

You wanna go on live go get yourself a non jtag box

is it impossible to switch to freeboot, if I do not have my org. nand, and only my current xbr nand?
-
is i would also like to know this..i have xbr3 with 8955 dash is it possible to put freeboot 9199 on it...instead using flash360?

Yep it is - you'll have to have a good read - look through the Freeboot thread here:
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=711598
Have a good read, you can use the existing smc from your XBR'd 360.

I kind of blew up about the online cheating but seriously!!
I have a technical question since this is supposed to be a technical thread.
How exactly , not in detail , but how do the people do who are cheating use a Jtag console too mod MW2 online , they couldn't actually be using the Jtagged console too play online with mods , every single 1 i have accidentally connected to LIVE on has been banned almost right away.
Just curious because all the people bitching about Jtaggers being online , i heard from a different forum that some people can get about an hour out of them , so i guess if your stats stay the same and you have a LIVE box that is enough to get whatever it is they are doing. I have never played MW2 only 1 and now all my 360s are Jtagged so i don't play online unless i can get a lower ping on xlink.
And thwack good thing you pointed out the new freeBOOT people can stop whining about XBR4 already jeez. I am loving the new freeBOOT , i just like the name better to be honest haha , but i know at some point they will remove the 16gb cap on the usb drives and i'll get me a couple TB

if your system is jtagged, you can use any usb drive with a 3rd party dash

Yeah - reckon the latest batch of new release games in a month? will require the 9199 dash - seems to follow the pattern of the last few updates.
The migration to Freeboot isn't that bad (if you have your orig NAND dumps) - the most hassle you can come accross with it is if using XBR's smc doesn't work, therefore you can either get the smc from the freeboot channel, or update (restoring R6T3 if removed - or use a 10k ressy instead) to the dash Freeboot requires. Just set yourself aside a couple of hours and a few beers and you'll be good to go
-
I'm just wishing there will be some kinda patch or delay option for those of us with big 3.5" HDDs.

QUOTE(theguru1 @ Apr 23 2010, 11:50 AM)

anyone??
Have a good look through the FreeBoot thread in the kernel section of the forum. Basically you don't need the original NAND dump (although your seller should have included it as standard).
What you want to do is dump the NAND (a couple of times at least, and check that the dumps match - if you haven't got LPT you want to be sticking Xellous on the XBR rather than as is likely Xell - check out Loouky's thread in the Kernel section), and follow the FreeBoot guidlines in that thread. You can extract the smc from XBR, but some people have had problems with it - so try the #freeboot channel on efnet for the hacked smc for your console.
Use that nice GUI for ibuild (again in the kernel section - put it in the same folder as ibuild), and make yourself a 9199 FreeBoot'er, flash over to the NAND with Xellous and you're away

thanks for clearing that up thwack...much appericiated
