Title: Number Of Times You Can Flash Your Nand?

I know on older computers you could only flash your nand like 10 times before it crapped out, is this true to the 360? Thanks.

I don't think so. I haven't heard any issues from people who claim they have had any problems with flashing too many times.

I grabbed this from wikipedia(I know its not the best of source but is what I read to help answer some questions about bad block when I was using NandPro)

But to quickly answer your question I believe the 360 can be flashed well over ten times or even a hundred for that matter. I mean just look at how many updates the 360 has had in the past 4-5 years of its life! I would have to say maybe a thousand to even MAYBE a hundred thousand flashes to the nand are possible , but of course I have no idea the quality of these nand chips in my researching of the subject.

100,000 erase/write cycles, 10 years data retention:

HY27US08281A Datasheet

I suppose if Microsoft were real jerks they could implement a background hacking countermeasure in new releases that upon detecting a hacked console it would perform thousands of write cycles per second and burn out the NAND boot block and turning your console into a brick. Similar to what DirecTV did to it's hacked access cards on the famous Black Sunday ECM of way back.

or they could just burn all the efuses in the cpu.

Good thing their both easy to write protect. Every time I solder a JTAG I flip the board and remove r6t3, it's such a habit now I don't even think about it. I don't usually WP the NAND though.

Here's a tip for soldering small pins like the NAND WP: If you're worried about shorting out the pins beside the WP pin put little strip of masking tape over the pins on each side of the WP so that only the WP pin is exposed. Then take a thin wire like the winding wire from a 3V toy motor, tin the tip and flux both, gently press the wire over the pin for a second or two with the iron and you should have a good solder joint without any shorts. peel the tape away slowly, and inspect.
