Title: J-tagg Question
Post by: RUiN114 on March 21, 2010, 07:01:00 PM
I have read alot of tuts on how to j-tagg. Some are st8 forward some are a little more confussing. I would like to know if I use an USB fasher do I still need to install the j-tagg wired and diods. I ask this becasue in the USB fasher thread by a mod it states nothing about the 3-4 wire and diod mod.
I could be wrong but would like to know if and what the diffrence is (lpt1 and usb flashers).

Almost forgot, is there a flash that dose not require a dvd/cpu key ?

The flasher is completely independent of the JTAG hack, regardless if you use either an LPT or USB flasher. All the flasher does is read/write the on-board NAND. The difference between the two flashers is simply speed and reliability. The USB flasher is almost 15 times faster than the LPT flasher. The LPT flasher is also much more error-prone.

If you want to do the JTAG hack then you will have to solder the three wires and two diodes. First you would want to verify that you indeed have a JTAG-able Xbox... have you done this?

Yes I check the dash and its a 7**** so it should be but might have the patch. Anyway I need to try it because the dvd key is missing.

So you are saying that it has to be jtaged to be able to flash ?

You can read/write the NAND to your hearts content without the JATG wiring. However, as soon as you install XBR, if the JTAG wiring is not present, the 360 will red light (either 0022 or 0020 depending on how the 360 feels that boot). In order for XBR to run, the JTAG wiring must be present.

Once you have your NANd flashed you can remove the flasher.

The JTAG must be inplace at all times afterwards.
