what does FTP mean?

Hello,
FTP stands for "File Transfere Protocal" it allows you to connect to your Xbox 360 console and then simply transfere a file or folder to the xbox console through you LAN (Local Area Network).
Personally I do not use FTP for transfering games because it slower than simply connecting my HDD to my computer and can clog a wireless network up quite fast. However for smaller DLC packages FTP works great.
To use FTP simply download a "FTP client" CuteFTP is one example. And now enter your xbox 360 consoles IP address in the "HOST" box then "xbox" in both user and password box. ensure XeXmenu is running on the Xbox console while trying to connect and transfere files
I hope this answers your question and if you have any more questions I will try answer them for you

if i wanted to go thru hard wire to transfer files thru ftp (like hook up my laptop and xbox 360 to a router) i could do that too right?
do I have to be connected to the internet to get an xbox 360 ip address?
thanks for your help btw

You can do it through a wired network, and you don't need to be connected to the internet.
Also, I'm sorry, but this is bugging the hell out of me:
