Title: Nand Reading Errors: Flashconfig 00012000 -- Help!
Post by: btums on January 26, 2010, 08:06:00 PM
Hi, I recently decided to try jtagging my 360 mobo (its a xenon) in order to retrieve the dvd key encrypted in the NAND. I set up all the jtag and lpt connections correctly (or so it seems), but when I try to read the NAND in Nandpro20b with the command "nandpro.exe lpt: -r16 nand1.bin", every block the program tries to read comes back with an error of some sort. Mainly "Error 0" but with a bunch of other different 1-4 character errors thrown in their as well. The errors never show up in the same order or for the same blocks, either, as I have tried restarting the program several times, all resulting in a different sequence of continous error messages. Here is a portion of one of the readouts I got:

Testing LPT device address:0378
FlashConfig:00012000
Using LPT device at address:0378
Starting Block:0x000000
Ending   Block:0x0003FF
Reading
Error:1F00 reading block 0
Error: 3FE reading block 1
Error:1798 reading block 2
Error:17FC reading block 3
Error: 23E reading block 4
Error: 390 reading block 5
Error: 1F0 reading block 6
Error: DF8 reading block 7
Error:   0 reading block 8
Error:1A1A reading block 9
Error:161E reading block A
Error:101C reading block B
Error:   0 reading block C
Error:   0 reading block D
Error:   0 reading block E
Error:   0 reading block F
Error:   0 reading block 10
Error:   0 reading block 11
Error:   0 reading block 12
Error:   0 reading block 13
Error:   0 reading block 14

I've read on numerous forums (including this one) that a Flashconfig of "00012000" - which is what mine is, will result in these sort of errors, but I have not seen a definitive solution to this problem. I did go into the BIOS and change the lpt port from "bi-directional" to "normal" mode, but I still have the same problem. As far as additional information you might need to be able to better diagnose my problem, I'm running xp 32-bit on a toshiba satellite P25-S609 (not my main rig, just an older laptop I have that happens to have an lpt port), like I said earlier, my 360 motherboard is a xenon, and I have been primarily following this tutorial: http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/modding-tu...-nand-xell.html  I am using (as the tutorial suggests: 3 1N914-1N4148 switching diodes and 5 100-ohm resistors), all in the appropriate locations.

As of now I'm fairly stumped, so any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

When I had this error i found out that i read my db25's pin positions incorrectly so none of my wires were soldered to the right place.
Other than that, something is clearly not making an actual connection....

Yeah its funny you say that...because when I originally wired up my lpt cable I thout I had it backwards, so I switched it up. Maybe I was right the first time...

Your db25 SHOULD have numbers on the black side of the adapter.

Ok, I double checked all my lpt pins to be sure, even compared them to several different diagrams and pictures....and they're right. Think I might have burned up a diode? (I did solder and resolder the connections several times :/) If not, any other ideas? Thanks.

If it was a diode issue it wouldnt be 00012000 unless it's causing a short somehow.

Hopefully someone knows more about this but from my experience, 00012000 means there just isnt a connection happening.

Try another computer? Just remember it has to be an lpt port on the motherboard, pci cards will not work.

I got error 00012000 because I forgot a diode on pin 11.....
