Title: Flashed, Xbreboot, Dont Want To Remove The Rt6 Resistor
Post by: ahmer on January 06, 2010, 07:48:00 PM
how do i play wave 4 or 5 without ruining my hack ? i dont want to/cant/too scared to removie that resistor//

also is there a way to transfers games to hdd though computer ? i would assume it would be faster, and I have a xenon with an old dvd drive thats really iffy, I have to tap it just to get it open. I would prefer to use it less and less and I always keep an iso backup image of my games on my 2tb mybook. so it would be nice to be able to just transfers..

Your jtag hack will play wave xxx just fine. No need to update anything. You can extract to a usb drive then use that in the 360 to transfer to it's internal drive (or just play from the usb drive). The dvd drive that doesnt like to open could probably be fixed by these steps:

Open the tray
Use a q-tip with some alcohol to clean the black rubber band you see through the tray opening. Clean it thoroughly and it might fix that problem (worked for me on many dvd drives).

ok, ill give that a try, but to get some clalification, i can load my backup iso to my 360 hdd to external hdd without going through the dvd drive ?

Yes but you must extract the iso. You can't do iso>usbhdd>xboxhdd . It has to be iso>extracted to usbhdd>xboxhdd.

If you don't want to remove the resistor, I think you could also simply cut the trace to or from the resistor with a sharp razor blade (and magnifying glass).  If done carefully, this can be a safer alternative if you are not skilled with a soldering iron because you avoid heat damage.  Preferably somebody else should chime in, in theory it would work since you're still breaking the circuit, but perhaps this trace is too small to be cut safely by hand.

Cutting the trace = harder than removing the resistor. You can leave it in place, but you'll always be wary of game based updates blowing fuses (as you don't need to worry about Live as you won't be going on it with a JTAG'd console).

Easy way to get the resistor off is the solder flooding method:

1. Apply flux to the resistor.
2. Get your hot soldering iron and 'tin' (apply solder) to the tip of the iron, so there's a blob of solder on there.
3. Hold iron to the side of the resistor for a few seconds, and gnelty 'push' against the resistor - it should come off.
4. Clean the solder off the iron, and tidy up the pads you've just removed the resistor from (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well considering the fuse set is virtulized I do not even think he has to worry about homebrews or updates blowing fuses. I might be wrong though.

Hence me saying he can leave it in place. If MS ever include some update on a game disc, it might be worthwhile removing the resistor as it only takes a minute to remove it just for piece of mind.

easyiest way to remove it just get a pair of tweezers and snap it off
but as imlazy ijust use what ever is close to me like front door keys and just knock it off theycome off easy

I'm sure it has worked for you, but that's a great way to slip up and do some damage to your board that won't be so easily repaired.  Your best bet, as one would imagine, is not to take shortcuts.

Can you still use gentoo and iflash to update nand when you remove this resistor? Is it only for the efuse or also the nand?

Yes you can still update. That resistor is only to keep the efuses from blowing
