as for tip idk. that station comes with a nice fine tip. took me 5 seconds to get a wire on db1f1.

This is the iron I use. I absolutely love it. It's pretty much perfect for soldering PCBs.

For anyone else reading this, the expensive soldering irons _are_ nice and for an intermediate hacker or someone with extra pocket change I would totally recommend a model with variable temperature and station.

However, if you're strapped for cash (read: poor high school student), and you _practice_ before working on your XBOX360, you can pull off these simple hacks with even a cheapo fire-starter RadioShack iron.  I would definitely recommend the Weller posted above over any RadioShack model.  RadioShack irons tend to take a long time to heat up properly and have slow recovery (regaining lost heat after soldering a component).  That being said I am moderately experienced with an iron and used a RadioShack 30W iron for my recent foray into JTAG and NAND hacking and it worked OK (even though I had to be mindful of its heat issues).

I used a cheapo 15-watt iron with a small tip.  I also picked up some leaded solder at an electronics supplier near me.  Leaded solder is WAY better than the new 'green' solder.
