You do realize those textures were put in for a reason, right? Sure, they might be replaceable but the game will not run as well with higher res textures. You might even get instability or crashing issues since console games tend to be optimized for the hardware on which they run. Unlike PC games, they know they have the same amount of memory across all the consoles so they will fill it up as much as they can.
That being said, good luck on your journey, hope it works out for you.
Thanks for you advice Craz3d but I already modified Oblivion.ini (more trees and objects, buildings didn´t appear sudently, Hires water with all reflections on...) with very good results and no noticeable framerate Issues. I think that those low details had more to do with things like the DvD access time (back in the day you couldn´t install games on HDD) than the raw power of the console. Also, some of the LOD texture replacement pack on the internet are not more ram demanding than the original ones, but they look much better.
Any help will be apreciated.
Regards.

That's a pretty surprising result, but your reasoning is pretty good. If you have any way to take high resolution comparison shots that'd be awesome. I only own the original release of the game, do you think your modifications are compatible with all versions of the game? is there any way you can post an archive with all the files you modified? If so I might be able to make a simple batch script that other people can run to patch their game with your mods rather than going through and replacing all the files manually.
The only thing you have to do is to edit oblivion.ini and insert it again in the game iso/folder.
I have a Jtagged console, so it is very easy for me to edit the game file from the HD and then launch it and see what happened, because of this I spent some time with this. With a Burned DvD it´s obviously more complicated and I don´t know if it´s worth it.
Only have in mind that this is no magic, and bethesda did it the best they could. I´ve been playing this evening and, although visuals were blatantly better, there were minor frame drops on demanding zones and surprisingly, Bravil fps suffered a lot (something to do with texture quality in that area).
It is a little bit disapointing, but for me, it is better than have castles apearing suddently in front of you.

shouldn't matter, I'm using the GOTY and it's not doing that to me...
I had trouble getting mods to work in this game, but followed the same guide to put multiple mods in fallout.
i think i might be messing something up in the ini, could you copy and paste the SArchiveList part of your ini please?
