Ok, I'll explain it the best I can. Firstly, I used xexloader to install fallout 3 to an external usb hd from the retail disc. (I already had the expansion packs installed) It would probably work just as well if you installed to the internal hd.

Anywhos... I then connected the hd to my computer where I used xextool to patch the xex to the latest version using the method outlined here.

Then, I edited the fallout3.ini as instructed by the "manual" instructions from this.

Then I took the contents of the mod and put them in their respective places in the fallout 3 directory.

I had noticed earlier that the title update container had an esp file in it so, i figured what the heck? Its a longshot, but ill give it a try. So....

Then, I used this guide to help me make a live container for the mods files. Im not sure what all I needed to put in it, so I just put everything in. The esp file and the folders. Just make sure you fill out the gameid and other stuff for fallout 3. Also, instead of telling it youre making a demo, select the "content" option. When that was all said and done, I had a shiny new live container. I just dropped it into the retail hd with the rest of the expansions.

After getting everything put back together, I loaded up fo3 through xexloader and what do ya know? My little "House Mod" showed up in the downloads list. happy.gif

The first save I tried was a later save and it took a couple tries to get it to load. It wasnt until I tried an early one that everything seemed to load up and actually work.

Thats it! I hope someone can take this, make some sense of it, clean it up and streamline the process.

Have fun!

was this using Fallout 3 with the latest patches? I assume so because you also have all the dlc but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Thats pretty sweet. On a side note how can I get the DLC on my xbox without going on live to download them? Im in the process of JTAGing my console and definitely dont want to go on live to download them. Im assuming I might be able to download the content on my roommates unmodded 360 and swap the HDD over to my xbox and copy it to its respective place or no?

You can do that or you can use the expansion disks.

well this mod got me thinking if you can do this with fallout what other games would this work with?

well being a big halflife2/teamfortress2 fan the thing that makes those games is mods

after extracting the image of half-life 2 Orange box the structure is VERY similar to your steamapps folder on your PC. I think adding maps should be as easy as copying however I havent attempted no time ATM

i'll try it tommmrow. this opens up possiblites for more maps in portal etc!!

the possibilites are endless!!!!

If i want to apply new textures, how would i do that?  I downloaded some but its just two folders (meshes and textures) and there is no bsa or esp.

hey thanks for the input Gir I also found something out, you don't need to edit the Fallout 3.ini at all for the mods to work, you also don't need to add the archive invalidation manual install instructions at all. Just repackage your mods in a live container using the same file structure you that you downloaded the mod in. I also repackaged some mods from fallout3nexus already and packaged them with the free legal alternative to XLAST called Le Fluffie App.

Though it still has some bugs namely you can't package more than 1 one sub directory full of files with version 1.0.0.9 so it can only be Fallout 3 mods that have .esp or .bsa and pretty much no sub directories. Even so its free and from what I understand legal to use. I'd be willing to upload some mods I repackaged with a moderators ok first.

The only thing that irks me is that my Fallout 3 game will freeze a lot even on XBR_Falcon_9855_3a I can only squeeze in maybe 10 minutes of gameplay before I get a freeze or dirty disc error. Anyone else getting this/fixed it?

Also Gir just for reference if you open up your title update for fallout 3 in a hex editor(which is the way I found the title update) it said that the version of my update was:

CODE
F.a.l.l.o.u.t. .3. .T.i.t.l.e. .U.p.d.a.t.e. .#.3

was this the version of your update or do I need an older/newer update.

Hopefully this freezing issue with FO3 can be resolved soon.

Fallout 3 Title Update #3 is the latest update at the moment.  This sucks you can only use esp or bsa files, i want to do some texture changes but its two folders with many sub folders & files.

oh that was/is for custom textures? Lol well I haven't gotten the chance to package anything that has skins in it so I guess I can't completely confirm that it works without archiveinvalitation, but when I followed the manual install to the letter then tried to play I would get a dirty disc error. blink.gif and ya I've been clearing the cache whenever I add/edit my mods, but I had freezing even before on the retail disc, might I have an idea why though... my Drive is flashed with liteon ix1.6 firmware, I wonder if that is the problem.

skin textures are working!  I just did the "ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!" manually and edited fallout3.ini like it said then copied the meshes & textures folders into the data folder of fallout 3 from my usb hdd. dont have to create them as bsa or anything.

Nice! Was wondering about that. Id like to try some higher res textures on the environments but dont really know how well the 360's hardware would handle it.

same deal here. freezes (dirty disk) after editing the ini

but i will try tomorrow with just packaging the mod into the container

im currently working on getting Cube Experimental working.

so now there are two methods? one is just puting the files into there respected directory and the other is packaging the mod into a LIVE file then putting it in "Content/'your profile id'/425307D5/0000002"?
or "Content/0000000000000000/425307D5/0000002"?

No matter what i try, i can't get textures to load. meshes are working fine though.

I did this ages ago. Most mods work, but the big ones require some tools that will never work on the 360.

There's the grass mod working.

i have several mods running in oblivion, but as with fallout, no textures will load. if there is a tool to convert dds to ddx, i'd like to hear about it.

i figured out what causes the dirty disc error after modifying the ini. do NOT do this step
3.) (optional) Find SInvalidationFile and change it from ArchiveInvalidation.txt to nothing, this will stop Fallout 3 from loading the ArchiveInvalidation.txt which you don't need anymore.

works fine for me after i excluded that step.

Your link to the guide on how to make a live container doesn't work for me. The link leads to a page that claims, "Sorry, the page (or document) you have requested is not available." Does anyone else have a problem with the link, and if so, could somebody explain it on here?
