Title: Help Reviving Xbox?
Post by: Prodak on July 01, 2004, 03:44:00 PM
Exactly same thing just happened to me.

I was messing with EEPROM settings in Avalaunch, and display screen options.

Now I turn on my xbox and all I get is the led flashing in red.

Im sure there must be a fix, can somebody tell us how to fix this please.

Thanks a lot.

my 2 pennies: (I am a noob)

If you have ever used the "backup" function in Evox you have a copy of your original Serial EEPROM data in your "backup" folder. I believe it is called eeprom.bin.
If possible, it would be best to get that original data back onto the serial eeprom.  (or you could use a .bin  aquired from elsewhere)

Unfortunatly, the only way I know to do this is to physically remove the serial EEPROM and program it in an external device.

noob procedure:
Desolder from mb>solder to socket>program>desolder from sockett, re-solder to mb= works but a pain in the arse)
This is a real pain in the rear, but do-able.
But this is one way to recover that i know will work. FWIW blink.gif

Ther may also be a method for "In circuit programming"..but i have never read of this in regards to this platform.
If you could get the to boot without valid serial eeprom data, there would be no need for all this.

So umm... Is there any way to boot a system with corrupt serial eeprom data?

Sorry to babble, it probably was not worth 2 cents..... huh.gif

Wait a lil bit before you pull that trigger.... wink.gif

I bet one of these peeps will have a much easier way that does not involve a soldering iron!  biggrin.gif

lol, thanks

I think my HD kept unlocked...

Maybe I could plug it in my PC
and extract my backed up workin eeprom from there.

Is that possible?

Finally found this link, 70 pages of searching due to the search being down, you guys need to boot a modchip with an embedded eeprom, then reflash the eeprom.

Easy, just a bit of patience and care needed.

Follow this thread for all the info you need:

Ok, but how to get the right eeprom to embed it to the bios?

Im trying connecting my xbox hd to my pc, so I can extract my backed up eeprom, but all programs to extract files from the FATX XBOX HD, are very crappy.

I can download a blank serial eeprom, but I dont know if that will work.

Ok, look

My modchip is

Aladdin Advance Plus

I think it only support 256k bios. (Im not sure though)

And I got another question where do I get a workin eeprom.bin ??

I downloaded one that says empty serial number.

lenballs, I think Im doing some progress here, but not too much.

Look.

I downloaded Live Info.

And you can create a eeprom from scratch.

I have my xbox serial number. and I can connect the xbox hdd to my pc and get all the info with Live Info. I mean my hd password, codes and stuff.

But there are some info that will be missing, like MAC ADDRESS, Confounder, Online key and stuff.

I have a backup of my working EEPROM on my XBOX HD. once I boot i could get that eeprom and reflash it to leave it just like it was before..

Maybe creating the temp eeprom from scratch is not a good idea, could you send me that workin xbox 1.3 eeprom ??

My xbox is 1.4... and I have aladdin mod chip

STOP STOP STOP

This is far easier to fix than you can imagine

However you need to ensure that you have the password to the HDD or have an unlocked one otherwise it is a paperweight.

Preferably you have also the copy of the eeprom data.

However once you have the eeprom data and your machine is chipped. All you need to do follow the instructions in ...

http://arisme.free.fr/Xbox/Reflash/

Should this site be down we have a mirror of it.

If you feel this is too complicated and you are in the UK we will happilly reflash your eeprom and supply a replacement std 8gb HDD for £25 plus motherboard return postage (£6)

Incidentally we will do this for anyone worldwide but the shipping of the motherboard jumps to about £15

Hope this info helps

Chris

You most likely need another modded xbox to be able to carry out this procedure, just like the link I sent you said.

Heres a valid eeprom backup from a v1.4, should be fine for you, change the serial number to suit yours, I don't care about the online key, this eeproms from a customer that will never go on Live.

Use Live Info to plug all this data in, then save the file as eeprom.bin.

Get XBTool 1.0.22, put the eeprom.bin file you just made into your XBTool\Patch Data folder. Embed this eeprom into a 4981 or 4980 bios.

You now need to flash this bios to a modchip, and then install it into your broken xbox. I assume your hard drive is unlocked as you are trying to put it in your PC. If so, once your xbox has booted with the embedded eeprom, grab your original eeprom.bin, create another embedded eeprom bios, and reflash, or use Config Magic to 'on-the-fly' edit your eeprom, whatever.

If you can't flash a bios onto your aladdin I suggest you find a tutorial that explains how to do this.

Good luck.

This is the only way that worked.  For some reason the other debug BIOSes didn't do crap.

Thanks a bunch!  You can have my first born...if I have one.

How is this method any different to embedding an eeprom into an X2 bios and using eepromagic?

I think you need to spend more time reading.

and not porn.

Alright, the guy who is fixing it for me. Said he cant embed the eeprom in a Xcuter bios, only EvoXM7... any idea why??  He is using Xbtool

I will tell him to try the cromwell thing in the site Surtr gave.  Surtr and I had the same problem since we did the same (mess with av settings in avalaunch)

Thanks I'll let you know.
