Title: Warning Serial Data Is Bad
Post by: ianbborg on February 03, 2020, 08:05:00 AM
Hi Guys I think  I have a huge problem here, I Connected everything to the ck3 pro and then I realized that I didn't have, so i improvised and did some modification to the power cable, but i have mistakenly switched the connector upside down;/ lol there was a bit of a small fire to tell you the truth and there are some burnt power slot stun there. But anyways I tried to connect it again, this time in the right position and it turned on, does this mean there was no damage ? I continued to try to extract the Key but I keep getting this message  "Warning Serial Data is Bad"  do you have any suggestions?
Thankss

yes but you wont like it
if you havent extracted your firmware you are screwed, the best suggestions are try and sell the bits you got left over on e**y and be more careful in the future.Sorry to be so blunt.

unless you can get your key from drive , a new drive would not work , drive keys can only be extracted from the drive and yours is toast, sorry

Oh shoot didn't know that, But I think that i really screwed nothing up on the pcb since there was no etching or solder where there is a hole now and there is power trough the CK3 altough I tried connecting it to the xbox and the drive didn't want to come out but maybe I did something wrong there. The thing is that the drive is powering up when hooked with the pc and it is being recognized. Maybe I should try doing it with serial cable or Dosflash? But I really don't know how to do that so if you have a tutorial link or something I would really appreciate. Yesterday I tried booting into dos from a cd since I don't know why but I cannot seem to boot from a usb with iprep. But I cannot access the pendrive from the dos when booted from CD;/

if you put it in the xbox and it will not eject then your firmware is fried , hundreds maybe thousands of ppl have done exactly the same thing as you, its easy to do cos when you are using a probe or spear you are working upside down, you dont even have to plug it in fully just touching the pins will do damage, try and search the forums for a answer.

have you checked the pcb in the liteon drive for any damage? if theres something burned you may be able to repair it extract the keys at least.
if the drives not working in the console anymore then check the drive pcb.

you could try a new ck3, sounds like you have fried the max232 chip on it hence the error saying serial data is bad.

Wait, can someone tell me whats the correct procedure for my situation please.
Currently I am
1. turning off computer
2. Connecting CK3 to power
3. Connect ck3 power to Lite-ON
4. Connect LiteOn to Pc's intel Sata controller using a Sata Cable
5. Turn On Ck3 Pro and eject drive with CK3 switch.
6. Turn Off CK3
7. Manually turn the drive half way in.
8. Turn On pc and boot into windows xp
9. Turn on CK3 with Blue light and with DIY Probe in r707 circle hole
10 Dvdkey32 try to extract.

Note: now i have tried to do it with usb connected but its not working and its chip its getting extremely hot and I have tried to connect the ck3 with the serial cable to my pc but nothing happens.

I really don't know what to do, if anyone has any solution  i would reaaly appreciate

Ok the drive played a dvd biggrin.gif
now Maybe I connected the Diy probe in a wrong way or the r707 isnt working on the pcb?

you probably connected it wrong way. and i think you have selected the wrong com port.

Well Yesterday I have tried an LED between the DIY Probe and the drives ground and it lit up. The problem is that the CK3's usb is getting hot so i cannot use it and I am trying to connect it with RS232 to RS232 but nothing's happening. And I can only select COM1, its the only one that comes up

ok, you can select any com port, you can replace 1 with 3, 5 or any number.
get this thing, it works flawlessly with lite-ons.

and its only 6 dollars and does the same thing as ck3

the rs232 chip on the ck3 does run quite warm, if its really hot then its most likely screwed, there were some that got really hot and burned out i read in early ones but as you have connected power incorrectly you may have damaged it.

as for finding your com port look in device manager and it wil have the com port number next to it.
usually if using the pc's serial port it will be com 1, usb can be anything (com 5 for me)
if you have selected the wrong port or your serial port isnt set up right in the bios you will get the bad serial data error too.

with your drive playing dvd then its most likely ok and the key will still be there as long as you havent erased and written firmware to the drive.

actually it is a common problem in CK3 pros ;/ the pcb is somehow not robust enough for the Usb IC. Do you have any idea how I can do it using the serial cable cos I am really getting bored;/

get this, the only thing you have to do is install drivers and bridge rx(chip) and tx(xbox).
