Title: Serial Number Edit Or Change In Nxe
Post by: kaneda_77 on April 01, 2009, 07:20:00 PM
Lets say I had a ton of 360 parts and put one back together. The sticker on the front shows xxxxxxxxx serial number while the dash says yyyyyyyyy serial number. Of course the one showing in the dash is correct(to the motherboard), but would there be a way to edit or change that? Eventually?
I tried doing the reset, y,y, lb, rb... whatever that was. It restored it to default, but I was looking for a hard reset where you would re-enter all information.

Is this something that only M$ techs do?

Hypothetically, would 2 motherboards be banned if they had the same serial number? Or is the console ID number/mac address the thing that actually gets identified?

I would definitely like to hear any experts thoughts on this.

I believe the serial number is stored with all the other per-console data in the keyvault, and thus cannot be changed.

That makes sense. When you send yous in for refurbing they program it to your seriial right there eh? I know that my mobo and drive were totally different when they sent back my box.

Are they gonna reprogram my old mobo when they refurb it?

Yes, since MS have the ability to sign any binary they like, they can produce tools able to change the contents of the keyvault.
