Title: Unreadable Disc Errors At Random Intervals
Post by: hawkreaper on September 23, 2007, 03:42:00 PM
Not sure if this is the place for this post but i have been having problemd with my 360 over the last month or so
i will start playing a new game from standing position not on for a day or so , then the game will just say unreadable disc error, the discs are not scratched they just wont read anymore
I am assuming the longer it stays on is when it happens,is there any problem with the samsung drives where they overheat causing read errors?
I am using the old xtreme 52 firmware and not ixtreme
it is just the most frustrating thing ,once this happens i leave the xbox off for a couple of hours and then i can play the games again, but it only happens to burns not originals,i can throw them in and perfect, but if i use a backup they wont read until i leave it off for over an hour.
Has anyone else solved or found the catalyst to this problem???

could be your disk, what media are you using?

or your laser is marginal, then it would be in the following order: clean laser, pot tweak, replace laser

That sounds like a classic overheating problems - its happened to many people here.  Anyway, the simple solution that most do is to just get Talismoon Whisper fans and do any other cooling upgrades.

Also, like stated above, you should do a pot tweak.  Just google hitachi pot tweak and you will get a good image of what to do (i know you have a samsung, but the lasers are the same except for model numbers)

Also, if you need, a new laser is only about $15-20 on ebay, just make sure you get the right model!

Memorex discs killed my laser.
I now have to buy a new one sad.gif
Pot tweaking didnt fix this for me.

i flashed my drive from the xtreme 52 to the new ixtreme fast version and it picks up my discs alot better now
i never knew about memorex discs why do they hurt lasers?

i guess the dye strains it. I had the same prob with my old ps2 used cheap media and it strained it. got a new one used verbs never had a problem. ive learnt my lesson now and agree with the saying you get what you pay for

Probably because Memorex are a crappy brand of discs.  They make the laser strain more to read the data, resulting in a shorter lifespan of the laser.
