Is there another version of *nix iI can use to fix the overscan problem ?

No. The overscan issue is a hardware issue not a software issue. If you happen to have a HDTV,X2vga, VD-Z3, or a VGA cable, you can enable 480p in Gentoox, and I believe that will fix the overscan problem, but I'm not too sure.

forgot to add this, but if you do want to enable 480p in Gentoox, then you'll need to run xbvset btw.
