Also, give XBC a try.  It works great for me.

xbox backup creator.  use that to get the SS.bin

This may not apply to your situation - I found it interesting.  I installed schtrom3.x and attempted to make a backup copy of dead rising. I have a samsung 162c with kreon 0.81. I could not get it passed the SS.  I ended up rebooting the computer and it made a backup succesfully after the reboot.
