Title: Hacking Idea (sort Of Along The Lines Of Hd-dvd)
Post by: ViNCe_V on March 31, 2006, 10:49:00 AM
The firmware hack recently is a great push forward for the hacking scene, awesome, great. But why not leave the 360 in tact completely? There are many great accesories for the 360 that work through USB and do extremely powerful things with the 360. The upcoming HD-DVD player add-on for example. My thought is that wouldn't it be easier to try and decrypt the communication between accessories such as the HD-DVD player and the 360 than trying to figure out how to work with the BIOS? If such a decryption is possible, then I think the firmware technique coupled with an external DVD drive to run backups from would be ideal, just plug in when you wanna play backups and unplug when you wanna go on live. No modification to the console would be necessary. This is of course assuming you can even run games across the USB (but if you can play HD movies that stream at 10+MBps, then I assume it shouldn't be a problem). And of course if the 360 would even allow such a move. When the HD-DVD player addon comes out, might be real worthwhile to see if you can run games from that device directly, in that case, when it does come out, I say we all focus on modifying that firmware too, just will makes thing in the future easier. Anyway, this was a random idea, hopefully it made some sense and you guys aren't like uhh.gif
