Title: Splinter Cell Xbox 360
Post by: ChiKoo on January 13, 2006, 12:58:00 PM
Anything new? I was reading a different topic but no one had tested to see if the SC exploit would work on the 360. Even if it does only mean the ability to play backed up xbox games, I'd still love to have XBMC on it.

it could be turned into a technical retorical post, though:

Splinter Cell will not be BC because MS has seen what we can do with the flaws. They will not repeat it. The exploit also uses buffer overflow (correct me if I'm wrong) and puts in modded code.

X360 is immune to buffer overflow.

Immunity is relative.

I read the February issue of OXM, and they said in one of those answers to a letter that all the SPlinter Cell games and some others with long names will now be beackwards compatible with the xbox360. NOw news on Mechassault though. lol

What does any of this have to do with hacking
This should be in the games forums

keep up with the scene and you would know that this has everything to do with hacking. we,ve the ability to add xbox1 gamesaves to the 360 hdd now and everyone wants someone to try and load the hacked gamesave splintercell with evox installer from the xbox360.

yeah you said it m8. (need a simple way) linux, removal of the 360 hdd from its inclosure, hooking it to your pc, running cmds from linux, backing up a 20gb hdd image, opening the image inserting your save then sending the image back to the hdd. sounds like an all day job to me.

it might get easier with time:)

no one has tried it because anyone smart enough to get the save on the HD is smart enough to know it wont work, lol

true, but the whole point of MS making the 360 resistant to buffer overflows was so we couldnt use the same hacks we used in the past, would be kinda pointless if the SC exploit still worked, no?

No offence, but in order to be certain, it must be tested first.

Things can be overlooked and the only way to rule something out is to try it.

Saying that anyone smart enough wouldnt bother is an odd comment. The cleverest people try things dispite what they are told/lead to believe and uncover new ideas...

I agree with the comment of people trying even though they been told it cant be done
Like we wouldnt have a bigger hd then 136gig in xbox if it wasnt for oz_paul trying something the so called smart people told him was impossible..

But even if the splinter cell hack could work on the 360 as ms could of over looked the posible idea since they dont allow xbox saves to be transfered to 360...

I wouldnt agree there tbh as the game was patched in later editions for the savegame hack to not even work on the xbox the 360 BC file would also patch the game while running it..

So maybe a new game thats not had a hack but will work with a hack maybe able to do something but its doubtfull imo..

And again, it's been 2 weeks without anyone trying it.  Enough with all the guessing, someone just put the save on and stop all this damn talk.

Let's take a logical vote here. Who the hell thinks MS has NO access to the same exploits we do? Who here thinks they don't know how they work? Who here thinks they've never used an exploit on an xbox to get a good look at it? Finally, who here thinks they didn't FOOKIN try it themselves on the 360 BEFORE they made SC BC?
Now, let's just say MS is totally clueless and comprised of complete morons. What about all the other logical problems that arise. So, they didn't do any of the above. Joe Schmoe goes through all the work of getting the save game with evox on his 360. He inserts SC and boots his savegame. Forget the fact that the 360 works on a software emulation that assuredly won't allow this exploit to work. Let's say it appears to go. Yippeeeeee, you just overflowed a VIRTUAL stack! It's not a real stack and voila, you've done nothing. Crashed the emulator at most.

Ohhh....I think they are.  I'm sure they spent 2 years on security and completely forgot how the xbox was broken into.  It's so simple.... rolleyes.gif   Come on people...drop this crap already...It won't work.

and even if u do get the save onto the HDD and u load it up in SC, then like its been said before, it would only crash the xbox emulator, but not the 360 itself.

would be amazing if it worked but so many things point to it not being possible. still waiting for someone to prove us wrong

It wouldn't even crash the emulator, only what's running inside the emulator. I still think it's worth an attempt - fixing old bugs was probably not MS's highest priority since we're limited to the emulated environment anyway.

Even if it DID work, wouldnt the dashboard only work while running the xbox emulator, ending up making the emulators/applications for xbox as slow, if not slower than they did on the actual xbox?

It didn't work because Evox wasn't on the BC list!  What are you thinking!! You want to try to crash the emulation software so that the emulation software will run Evox.  Hows that work again?  WTF

i saw something at bestbuy yesterday that allows you to transfer game saves to the xbox 360 which makes it possible for people to try there game saves i doubt you will get Evox on your 360 but if anyone wants to waste the money and try just thought id tell you guys about it
