Title: Launching From Evox: Fans Spin, Xbox Shuts Off

I've recently installed Xebian 1.0.1. It works great when launched from the CD.

I've followed the instructions to try and launch it from the hard drive, however I can't make it work. I've disabled IGR, and I've created a directory called f:\linux, and copied the files from fatx_boot_e.iso to it.

I've then created a menu item that points to f:\linux\default.xbe

When I launch the item, I get some white text (a URL), then a blinking underscore, then a black screen, the fans go to full speed and the xbox shuts off. I get the same behavior if I insert the boot CD and try to launch the DVD from evox.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem, it only boots when i turn the unit on with the boot disc in the drive. It also takes a while to load, i figured it would be faster off the hard drive.

did a little more research...here are some possilble solutions: edit ur settings in evox so that "In Game Reset" is turned to NO. if that doesnt work, try getting the latest versipon of evox..hope that helps

Just looking at your post i realized somthing, You used fatx_boot_e.iso and put it in F:\, Don't you need to use fatx_boot_f.iso. The other one is for E:\ Boots.

This could be your problem or a spelling mistake in the Post, Let me know :)

f:\linux\ is where I copied the files from the fatx_boot_e.iso and am hoping to use as the bootloader. Ed's Debian is loaded in the game partition e:\debian

You cant use them on the wrong partition, You need the Bootloader on the partition you installed Xebian On.

OK, so I created an E:\debianboot directory and copied the following files from the boot CD:
- default.xbe
- initrd
- vmlinuz
- linuxboot.cfg

My linuxboot.cfg is as follows:

kernel vmlinuz
initrd initrd
append init=/linuxrc root=/dev/ram0 kbd-reset video=xbox:640x480p xbox=fatx_e:/debian ramdisk_blocksize=4096


Tried launching fro evox and boXplorer and same behavior, black screen, pause, fans spin up, xbox shuts down

help!

Can you try doing it w/o putting it in a folder, could be Xebian gets confused when loading things from folders.

Also tried copying the four files to the root of E: and launching the default.xbe from boxplorer. Still same behavior.

Does anyone else have Ed's Debian 1.0.1 successfully running from the hard drive?? Is this possible??

Any luck ? I have the same problem.  Gentoox boots without any problem.  Xebian only from CD?!

I've got Ed's Debian 1.0.1 running from harddrive.

after hours and hours of no success here is what i did and it worked for me


Step 1
 
     Installed Debian 1.01

Step 2

     Ftp'd into xbox

Step 3
 
      Edited Evox.ini (Item "Linux","e:\debian\default.xbe")

Step 4

      Reboot xbox

I was then able to  load Dabian,  and i was able to complete the installatin

I did NOT extract boot_fatx_e.iso or boot_hdd.iso, when i ftp'd into xbox i noticed that there was a folder called dabian with all the files in it allready so all i did was edit my evox.ini to point to that folder and it worked.

Changed evox.ini to point to e:\debian\default.xbe exact same behavior. (Black screen, fans spin, xbox shuts down). So we have one person who can boot 1.0.1 from the hard drive, any others? There must be some commonality to the problem I'm experiencing.

 I have this problem when I turn on 480p in the MSDASH
turn it off to solve your problem

I use Debian 1.0.2 and have the sme problem,
after asking my friend, he tell me the method :

use Xromwell 2.29 ( not 2.30 ! ) default.xbe
to replace the original in the ISO,
and make sure you don;t have gentoox in your E:\

gentoox will conflict with debian when you boot from HD,
default.xbe will try to search the root file of gentoox
and make errors.

This method works for me.

BTW, anyone can run Debain 1.0.2 in 800x600 resolution
with X2VGA ? I have right side screen dark problem...like this
