| Doesnt your diagram wire the puwer button and the eject tray together? That can not be right. Also why cut the yellow wires when ythey will pop right out of the header. |
yea that was the problem, and you cant put both on a switch without making them together so you must cut the purple wire..

Very nice tut............thats creative thinking there
Nice for those who have little kids that insist on messing with everything
Edit: This should really be pinned in tutorials |
that would be prety cool to get this pinned. my 1st idea i got on my one and created, and its pinned. hopefuly.
i was sitting in my room and saw this old pice of shit computer and thought i should do something with it and get it out of my room. so i thought what parst do i want . while opening the case i found the keys in the case and thought how cool it was to have a key on you computer. then 2 seconds later i saw my open xbox and had the idea to put it in the xbox.
hopefully people use this..
good luck
I think the idea of a key in the back is a little funky when my IR remote one unlocks with a key or some keys off the remote, not sure how I want to deploy it, just enabled with a jumper and either push one key to unlock or make it a 4 number PIN.
nice Tutorial.
i had this same idea a few months ago but couldnt find one of the keylock switched right away unless i got one online and had it shiped. so instead what i did was rig up the box to only be usable if the correct password is entered at bootup.
1) I did this by getting the APP called Xselector (source also avalable). what you do with xselect is make it your default dash and when the xbox is turned on it asks for a password. if you enter the correct password it will ether boot the dash you want or let you choose from a list of all the ones you have installed.
2) The only problem with this is that if somone puts in a game the xbox will boot the game befor asking for the password. But there is a simple fix for this, just open your bios with the app Xbtool. Change the bios to boot somthing other then default.xbe for example: Xbox.xbe. then flash the bios back on your chip and you have an xbox that will not load anything untill the correct password is entered with the controller. (all games and DVDs will still boot like normal once your in your Dashboard.)
(if you forget password just make a boot disc with xbe named Xbox.xbe and it will boot without asking password)
*note* this can also be used as a safty feature not just from others but from your self. For example: people always seem to have mistakes and mess somthing up on the xbox by accident, lets say you delete a file your dash needs or you install a new version that dosnt work. instead of having to find a boot disc and booting to the boot disc to ftp in and fix it. with the xbox set up this way all you gotta do is enter the password and tell it to boot a different dash untile you fix it.

wait, ur saying you can have a 4 dig pin to make it that the xbox dosent get any power, like a switch?
how?
Shit, if I had to keep my kids off the box for some reason I just take the power cable with me and hide it.
No need for a key. I got too many damn keys as it is.
Nice tutorial though..

yea, thats what i use to do, but then what if sometime they find it... with a key you flip a switch and dont worry about anything..
Are you loving resetting the clock every reboot now or what?
its te only wat to really do it cuz you cant do the yellow wires and thats left. i dont think you have to reset the clock, cuz when its disconnected its the same thing
is wrong time that bad???

| Are you loving resetting the clock every reboot now or what? |
thats why i tried to do it thru the yellow wires, but is not really possable unless you have 2 switches. thats just stupied. so i did it thru the power wire, its like when you disconect the power cable. everyone does that once in a wile. right?
| QUOTE (bcforn64 @ Jun 24 2004, 09:25 PM) |
Christ, Did you read what I wrote in this thread earlier? You CAN use the yellow wires with one switch. Use wires 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4 and it will work fine.
Edit: I just tried my way and it works fine. |
ok, but when you still disconnect the power cable you still hvae to re do the date and time?
| QUOTE (bcforn64 @ Jun 24 2004, 10:30 PM) |
| Yes, after having the power cable disconnected for a certain length of time the capacitor that powers the clock loses it's power and will stop keeping time. So your method is really a non issue on Xbox's that are usually packed up, such as Xbox's for lan parties. But for Xbox's that are usually plugged in 24/7 your method will act in the same manner. |
yea, thats true, but how many people xpecialy moders leave there box pluged in 24/7, theres always a reason you have to open it?... ill put both ways up later. the easier(m way. and the 24/7pluged in way?
and will it kill anyone because they have the wrong time. if ur using evox, it dosent even ask you, so it just say the wrong time..
anyways
thanks for all ur help
plus if your the type that have ur xbox pluged 24/7, then you dont really have anyone to lock it from... this is supose to be for people that hide thier wires or live with roomates and dont want them messing with thier xbox.. if if you have little brothers that do what they please...
but ill still post the other way..
and also, my way is more effective if you have one of those wireless power on remotes or if you have an on/off button from your controler.
my way will not let it power on at all
thansk all for making this happen. this tut will soon be submited. good luck im out

| ShadowRaider: The clock not being set is very annoying, a number of games will crash on loading if the clock is wrong or not set. |
depends though, my xbox is always plugged into the internet, so my dashbaord autosets the clock everytime i turn on, so it wouldnt matter if i lsot my clock info everytime i turned off
| QUOTE (catdog2 @ Jun 25 2004, 07:44 AM) |
Instead of cutting the purple wire (+3.3V standby), use the white wire (power on).
This will keep the clock running, but won't let the xbox power supply start up - therefore the xbox can't be turned on.

are you shure? the white wire ??????
i alredy cut my yellow wires and put it back together, and ill do the same to the purple if your 100,000,000% shure.....
pm me back asap....
im painting my xbox. once im done and you tell me your shure then ill do it and take pictures....
nice tut, should go in the tuts section of xbs... congrats!

yep thatks, 1st i did it with the yellow wires and then the eject wouldent work..
ill post this in XS once its 100% error free. catdog say it would be better to do woth the white wire???
now my quetions about the white wite. if it turns the power oin or off, isent that the same.
are you shure if i cut that the buttons wont work................
why would they have 2 power siurces comming off 1 board going to another, they would just make one and split them at the board... i think
plz notify me if ur shure. if it dose stop the power from powering the system & dosent kill the power then cool, but isent it the same..
the thing that remembers the time is on you MOBO and the only way to let poerw to still go there and stop the buttons from working is cutting the yellow wires.......
i think its 1,3
ok, ill try it, cuz it would be easier if it was 1 wire for everything, ill look into it

Having the right time sometimes.. and the wrong time at others.. will ruin some peoples save games.. as many saves are clock/date ordered.
Having correct time is important for many games with multiple saves/auto save options.
| QUOTE (catdog2 @ Jun 25 2004, 06:08 PM) |
ShadowRaider:
The power supply works by having 3.3V available at all times. This runs the clock, and also the PIC which controls the power on off etc. This is the wire you are currently cutting (3.3V Stand By) - which removes power from everything (much like pulling the plug out of the back of the xbox)
To start the rest of the power supply (to turn on the processor, harddrive etc) the xbox sends a signal on the white wire (power supply on) - then the xbox will turn on.
By cutting the white PS_ON wire instead of the purple +3.3VSB wire (brown on some xbox's), you will force the xbox to remain in "stand by" mode. This means that the clock will continue running, but the xbox cannot turn on - it is stuck in standby until you use your key switch.
Hope this makes sense.... it is only a trivial point, but if you are making a tut for other people to follow then this method is probably better. |
Catdog is right.

the guy was prety shure about the white(sometimes brown) wire. it says power on (on the MOBO)
cut it and try to press the buttons, and if they dont work then pit the switch and ull be all good. if the buttons work then soder them back together and do the yellow wires comming off the power assambly assambly. #1&3, but let me know if the white one works. i wont be able to try it for 2 days. my xbox is being painted . ill post pics up soon...

this is a ripper of a mod... i love those old school keylocks...
you should replace your house keys with them... how sweet would that be... no burgler would know how to pick them :lmao:
roj |
nah, you should see the keys i got, its those vending machine ones, i dosent look possable, unless you have a key prety close to it, or you can always open the xbox and rewire the wire back together, but thats if u loose ur key...
anybody willing to cut thier white wire and tell me if the power ir eject buttons work????
could u use a car ignition switch and have settings for
1. no power
2. for power but no modchip
3. for power and modchip
That would be pimp
Did anyone ever check if the white wire works in the intended fashion?
white wire works
its white on a v 1.0 right? in the middle of this thread some one was talking about a brown one on some versions, Also has any one found a good link to where to get such a keyed switch, the best i could find was on ebay.
thanks
search froogle
froogle led me basically to canada, i went to frys and they had one, installed it, went very well,
how would this work if i wanted it to have the eject button eject ONLY when the key thing is turned. is this possible in any way.
