HERSS THE TUTORIAL ON HOW TO DO THIS
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=232200

Hey everyone, i was in my basement and saw a old ass computer and saw the key lock on the front of it, used to lock the computers from unwanted users. i haveent seen anyone else come up with this idea and i can really use it in my house, 6 yearold brother will go mess with anythong he wants to. i was wondering if it is possable to ad the switch in the back, where it wont allow power to go threw when the switch is off.  anyone got a tut, pic or anything to tell me where to put the wites. the wires comming out of the lock are prety small, like the usb sized wires. plz help.

The keylock is a normal switch, so you can put it on one of the power lines that is connected to the power switch itself. The only way to do it would be to cut the trace that is on the front pc board going to the swtich and route the line from the solder joints before and after the trace. You can use a multimeter to determine which trace you need to cut.

hmm, then he shoudl be abe to put it on the yellow cable coming from the power/eject assembly, avoid cutting the trace

just need a pinout of the cable to know which wire to cut

You could use that providing that the traces going to the power switch are routed to the yellow wires directly. Which I think they are. THat would be a better option.

If you did this, you'd still be able to power on with the eject button.

I'd suggest you put the switch in-line with the POWON wire from the power supply.  (i.e. I wouldn't put much current through the switch like hooking up directly to the 120VAC line).

Search is down, search for POWON and you'll probably find it.

Man you guys post fast... I just read your replies, and yeah, maybe one of the yellow front panel wires is the way to go.

yea, i want it so that noe power goes to the switch, meaning i have to put it on the yellow wires, but anyone got a labled picture. im going to start doing this in 2 hours because im installing a USB slo in my controler so i can use my 256mb flash drive. so i can get files off my comp to my xbox.

any pictures, and what YELLOW wires to connect?

o i forgot about that eject botton, if i run it thru the yellow wires, then wont the eject button still work, or maby put the switch on both so nonw get power.

I think there is a wire that is on the main power supply feed to the motherboard that is contsantly on at 3.3v. This is what powers the buttons. So if you use that one it should work out fine. I think its orange. Double check.

Do you have a multimeter? If so, try testing all the yellow wires while turning the box on and off. If you don't then you can use a LED with a resistor soldered to it to see which lines are hot.

i might, lemt me check, but do u just check all the yellow wires?

is the power comming out 1 wire for the eject and power, because both have to be disabled.

If it has a little wire comming off of it with an aligator clip and pointed screwdriver like body with light inside then yes. Just hook the aligator clip to any ground and touch the solder pads one at a time. If the light lites than there is power on that pad.

see the pic above the last 4 on the left light up.

starting from the left while the xbox is off,

1 says connection (probally ground cuz when i touch the clip and the point together it says connection)

2 has vontage

3 says connection

4 has vontage

and everything else nothing happens

Can you take it apart to see where the traces are running too? One of them has to be going to the power switch. But like the last guy said, what about the eject button? This may be a bit more complicated doing it this way. Try the 3.3v Stand by line. It won't fuck your board up, I would cut it, wire the switch in temporarily, try it and see what happens.

Actually this may be quite easy.

Check the tutorial on the wireless remote on/off switch.

I'll bet you can merely tap the same lines to keep the Xbox OFF when the switch is in use.

Why not use the keylock on the d0 wire to your modchip (assuming you're using a modchip), then your brother could only get onto the Xbox with the chip off, and not do any damage to your modded sections, or accidentally go on Live or something, but he'll still be able to play your Xbox.

Unless you totally want to lock him out, in which case you need a keylock for your room, not your Xbox wink.gif

im finaly done.... ill have pictures and a small tut, intell i have time, then ill submit it it the tut section.

its prety cool, i was trying to put a USB in mu controler and the dam soder dosent stick to the points. fucked up shit, so i put that aside and finished this...

now ill go and fix it. i put my Flash drive and the fucked XBOX formated it. i had hella important shit on that, and then i tried to put it in my computer and it formated it back. its like both are on a different system.

Nothing beats regular beatings of siblings wink.gif

As for the Flash drive; yes, they use different file systems, and the Xbox automatically formats any new USB drives, because memory cards are USB drives, and after all; who'd try and hook up their flash drive to an Xbox?

...well, apart from the modding community wink.gif
