I don't understand what you're trying to say. Are you talking about a burned copy from your computer? Or streaming it via Media Center to your Xbox?
Either way, the Xbox can only display 480p for DVDs.
-
The dvd drive is not HD-DVD. If thats what your asking?
-
There are quite a few 720p movie trailers and game trailers you cant watch via live.
I have tried downloading vids wmv in 720p and 1080i, and 1080p. Xbox refuses to see any source for videos save the hard disc. Attempts to stream the media with the extender feature proved to be well, not spectacular audio comes through but no video. Could be a setup issue on local machine. (3200 amd64 256 video and gig of ram. Should easily play the vids). I have a gigbit network even though xbox360 is only 10/100 so transfer shouldn't be an issue.
I am going to continue to futz. I am hoping m$ is hearing about these little details. The 360 needs to fully support media from portable hard discs, as well and cd and dvd. I mean even with a media center PC things are dicey.
-
I have numerous WMV-HD clips on my MCE05 machine and they stream perfectly to the xbox, sound and all. I am using the optical digital cable for surround sound *which also works fine*.
-
I am willing to bet that the 360 will play pay per view movies in the near future and maybe that is why they are holding out on playing hd movies....but the catch is that you can watch hd movies via the market place.
-
Can you play a High Def mpeg2 file off of the DVD in the dvd drive?
-
i have the 1080i versions of all 3 lord of the rings movies on my pc and they are ginormous (rougly 25gb each) but i will see if they play fine when i get my premium next week and the hdtv a few weeks after.
-
HDTV movies work
i've tried .ts files
However you have to transfer them to mpeg
they wont work just by renaming them well mine didnt
i used hdtv2mpeg -makes them really quick around 15min for a 12gb movie
When i played some movies they didnt show anything
but after i downloaded codec pack and installed it on pc
movies worked great on 360 media center.

Confirm, you installed a codec pack on your PC, which allowed the HDTV2MPEG videos to work. The same videos that showed as blank on previous attempts? If so, which codec pack.
I've been working on getting .TS files and .TP files to run on xbox 360, and they work well, but not perfectly, although I suspect it's possibly in the conversion.. ie.. I have tombraider 1080i in .TS which is 108 TS files. Using HDTV2MPEG just gave me one large file with only a grey background, no video/audio. If I converted using VideoReDo the video is perfect, but the audio sync is off throughout the entire film.
.TP files same thing when using VideoReDo I get video glitches occasionally and the audio sync is off. I have not been able to convert a .TP within HDTV2MPEG. Additionally for X360 you can not simply rename the .TS or .TP file to mpg, it doesn't work.
It would be awesome to get some of my HDTV .TS collection streaming to Xbox360, any assistance would be of great help.
PS. for those who really want to show off your xbox 360's HD capabilities, look for the Hitachi HDTV demo, and the Pioneer HDTV demos (a.b.hdtv).. They are encoded at about 23Mb/sec and look stunning when streamed to the Xbox360.. Of course, I'm still getting minor glitching and audio sync problems.
-
I'm trying to find out if you can simply pop a WMV HD DVD into the XBOX 360'S DVD-ROM and get it to play?
Nobody seems to know for sure... strange because there are quite a few of these DVD's out there.

I've downloaded a few clips from hdclips.net and renamed the .ts files to .mpg. They seem to work fine.

Still have to wait til tomorrow to get my 360, but as this is the topic that really interests me (as hdtv is the only thing xbmc can't play): has anyone tried using:
ts converter
It's from the same ppl as hdtvpump (which works great for playing back ts files on the PC), and is a simple one click .ts -> .ms-dvr converter (it really only needs to change the header and format, as both contain the video as mpeg2).. I really hope that works for the 360, so there's something for you guys to try out while I still wait for mine ;)
For joining multiple ts files, another easy way is to use Total Commander, just select the first segment, and choose file, combine (and select a different hdd for output, otherwise it'll probably take forever...)

I got the HD version of T2 Extreme Edition working last night through the 360. If anyone has this you 1st need to patch the Interactual player on your pc for Media Player 10. The patch is on the Interactual site. Now you can open and acquire licenses for the HD-WMA files directly through Media Player. Once this is done you can copy over the 4 parts of the movie to your pc's hdd and stream them over to the 360. This is where the files are located on the DVD where X is your DVD drive location.
X:\common\win\lang\en\t2x\esource\
T2_Part1.wmv 2gb
T2_Part2.wmv 2gb
T2_Part3.wmv 2gb
T2_Part4.wmv ~870mb
You MAY be able to copy them over 1st and pull the license with the 360s player since it does have DRM capabilities but Im not sure if it will work. I didnt try it. Ive had the HD verison of this movie for over a year and I can FINALLY watch it on my tv.
I havent had to do anything with .ts files to get them to stream other than rename them to .mpg.

Really? once hdtvpump is installed on the MCE the xbox360 extender plays .ts files without any conversions? didn't know it even recognized the .ts extension as a valid video file.
too many questions and still over 12 hours to wait ;)
-
I dont understand what everyone's talking about with hdtvpump and conversions. All Ive ever done is rename ts to mpg and it works fine on the computer AND 360. Ts is still mpeg video no matter how you look at it. The only reason I can see that you might need something else for your pc is if you dont have any kind of software dvd player installed such as powerdvd or windvd.
-
ts is not quite the same as an mpg... they both contain mpeg2 encoded video, but are packaged differently. ts is a transport stream while mpeg is a program stream. depending on the implementation of the decoder, one decoder will play both just as fine, or different handling might be needed.
if the x360 plays ts files renamed to mpeg just fine, even better -- i shall finally know that tomorrow..

I'v heard of these sync problems. It's ironic that the 360 has problems handling .ts stream yet it really is a streaming variant of mpeg 2.
Try Mainconcept EVE 2.1. I've heard its really easy and no sync problems.

or VLC player, the best IMO. Question: Can you stream these media playback applications to your 360 from a MCE 05 PC? What about XP? If not, it'd be great if someone found a workaround. Shouldn't be that hard since MCE is really a scaled down xp with a prettier UI no?

Sounds cool. I have that same dvd but haven't watched it in wmv glory yet. Sucks that you can't just stream it off your PC HD, or better yet play it through your xbox 360 dvd drive. Shit, you'd think MS could at least streamline their own formats a little better don't ya think?

I can confirm that the Xbox360 MC Extender plays .ts files just fine without converting or renaming them. I simply installed hdtvpump on the mce pc. now I only need to get network access going, but i'll start a new thread for that

OT
How does that work. Do you stream the hdtvpump from your MCE PC to your 360? Also, I don't have HDTV so I'm not familiar. .TS is raw capture HD from your MCE PC from... SAT or CABLE? Lastly, if you don't mind my asking capturing LOTR like comes from a premium channel right? How much do you pay a month for TV subscription?
Thanks!
EDIT: I think I found out part of my question. It seems hdtvpump is a directshow filter that allows .ts playback in wmp 10, so I'm assuming you stream wmp10 to your 360... Thanks on the other questions.. cheers.
-
babanoosh,
I'm not the one that posted about LOTR, but to answer some of your questions: the .ts files are raw mpeg2 transport stream captures from digital satellite (both free or encrypted channels). hdtvpump is a directshow source filter that allows viewing .ts files in directshow based media players (such as wmp oder zoomplayer).
I don't capture anything in the MCE, my capturing is done in other systems.. I only set up mce because the of the stupid limitation MS built into the xbox360 (video streaming only from mce).

Thanks man. I figured the 1st part out already, except you say encrypted channel.. encrypted on the stream? What do you use to decrypt/capture?
This is the main reason (other then limited inputs and functionality as opposed to the near future) that I've decided to hold off on an HDTV purchase. So far I'm leaning toward DLP unless OLED or the new age like hits shelves and wows videophiles. LCDs and Plasmas just have too many cons and CRTS are just too damn bulky.
Anyway, that reason being "HDCP" support. Most TVs out right now have maybe one HDMI input and I recently found out not all DVIs support HDCP (which makes matters even worse). I'd like to see a decent sized (42") DLP (or newer technology) under 2k with 1080p,1080i,720p,720i support (not sure which should be native, too early to tell IMO) along with maybe 3 HDMI inputs (all HDCP) , dvi (with HDCP), and maybe a component and svideo/composite. I saw something recently on engadget (good 'ol leading edge samsung I believe) that incorporate a media center with hard disc drive into a TV along with an ethernet jack. Nothing out right now (within reasonable cost) shouts "I'll last you through next gen high def". I do have a zenith 27" CRT with native 1080i in the bedroom. Probably use that for the 360 to see what everyone is talking about. I'm sure when next gen optics finally hits, we'll be seeing a lot more HDCP sets with "better" inputs.
I feel you on the MCE. I cringe thinking I'll have to dual boot just to enjoy some of the limited (but gorgeous eye candy) video playback. So what are you using for capture? Let me try to guess... WinTV hauppage Myth box?

Installing HDTV pump does the trick. Works with both .TP and .TS files
Now to find a perfect way of combining the multiple file .TS's
Streaming is still not 100% perfect, it get minor glitches here and there, hopefully MS will tune this and release an update for it(actually hoping we'll get XBMC on it). Also sometimes, files will play, sometimes they skip right to the restart file option again. The Xbox360 Media Connector is Beta at best.

Damn... is this QoS issues on 10/100 or a software bug I wonder? Do you think it would stream decently on that MS Wireless Adapter? I think it'll run G (WPA or WEP?). I'd like to put the 360 in my bedroom with my HDTV and leave the xbox with the 43" Sony RPTV in the livingroom. There's no way the 360 is replacing my trusted Xbox for media playback any time soon. Maybe when the linux geeks crack it so devs can put a REAL media player in there. Just imagine XBMC with native HD support and TIVO capability!!!!! Well, some of my .TS files run at approx 23Mbit/sec - so you would need a pretty clean signal with no WEP encryption on a Wireless G to get a good experience. you can always turn off encryption and turn On Mac filtering for security.
Also here is an update. a FEW .TS files I downloaded and 2 .TP files will not stream, even with HDTV pump. They play fine on the PC, but show as unrecognized or corrupted on the X360
Anyone know of a util to combine the 160 part .TS files? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

WEP and Mac filtering are security? Security through obscurity. Heheh... now there's a good laugh for a network engineer
Tell me something puppydg68... Can you play (stream) these .ts files "ONLY" if they're ripped on the MCE PC itself? Meaning, you can't just burn it to a DVD (what will fit anyway) and play it on the 360? What about HD-WMVs like the one on T2 Extreme Edition? Does it play locally on 360 dvd drive or stream from MCE PC DVD-ROM? Can you check this if you have the movie... I remember somebody here had it, not sure if it was you. If the answer is no to all of this, I'm truly disappointed at what a piece of shit this capability is on the 360. On top of it, it won't be too much longer and the .ts will be encrypted anyway (except maybe OTA, but not indefinitely). So what's left? Pay-per-view RESOURCE HOG HD-WMVs galore and TV content through marketplace that only plays on a single device (360) and is DRMed to the point of sheer frustration. I imagine we'll see more of this when fiber (on the local loop) becomes a commodity and MS rolls out their IPTV.
H.264 IS the future of High Def. IMO, The sooner MS and Sony realize this without trying to pussy foot and push their own agenda (hd-wmv and mpeg2 respectively), the better off we as consumers will be. Let the format war get the fuck over with so we can crown the victor and end this nonsense (I hope)!
</end of uneeded rant>
Anyway, thanks in advance (questions).
Regards
'noosh

Video on the x360 can currently only be played from two locations: either stored locally on the internal hdd (and the only way for a movie to get there is through the official xbox live downloads -- so no personal content there at all), or through the MCE extender mode streaming from the mce pc.
Only DVD videos can be played back in the dvd drive of the x360. so any other movie you want to play has to be shared from the mce pc.
It doesn't matter where the file comes from; as long as it's supported just drop it into a shared location and play it. As I mentioned in another thread, I don't use the mce for recording at all, simply for sharing my videos that come from other devices.

ProjectX does it.
Just open the app.. load all the .ts files up into it.. and coose "Procces Window" or whatever instead of the quicklaunch button.
Then it gives you some radio buttons at the top and one of them is "To TS".. which makes one big TS file from any number of TS files.
Only took a few minutes for me on a 100 parter or so
The java source can be found at doom9.org but I also found it compiled on the web here:
http://www.videohelp...ectX0901exe.zip
Have fun! This app works great for cutting out commercials as well and has been flawless for me.
-
HDTVtoMPEG2 is actually better then ProjectX, for the record.
-
I have had great success with HDTV2MPEG to convert all my TS files for the 360. My problem is this. Say I'm watching an hour long show. The first five minutes I can fast forward, pause, and rewind all I want to. But once I pass about 5 minutes into the show, if I fast forward, pause, or rewind, the screen goes blank and so does the sound, although it still acts like it has done what I asked for it to do (pause rewind etc.)
Has anyone else had this problem with HiDef stuff?
Also, I have noticed a lot of sound issues with regular mpegs or mpeg conversions from xvids. And by "sound issues" I mean the sound is off from the video. I wish MS would have added a feature like XBMC has where you can speed the sound up or slow it down to fit the video.

Great info in this thread, I was having a problem with T2 extreme edition.
Does anyone have any experience with .MKV (matroska) files? I have some HD programs in this content and haven't had any luck converting to .MPG or .WMV.

You sure that if you made a VCD (video cd) that it wouldn't play? I know it did on the old xbox? I think it would. in which case I want to clear something up the people were saying earlier. You could put high definition content on a video cd, and supposedly play that back on the 360. That DOESN'T make it a high definition DVD. What makes it HD-DVD is the amount of storage on the disc, and the bottom line is that our 360 will not read those new discs unless you buy the HD-DVD drive that has been talked about.
But you could play high definition video on the 360, it would just be in a video cd format and have a max of 700mb (which all cd's have) so obviously you aren't gonna get a whole movie on there.

My xbox360 is playing .ts files (720p & 1080i) fine with no HDTVpump installed.
All i have installed on my PC is Windows 2005 MCE, Nvidia Purevideo Video decoder & media connect.
Dont know why mine works, but it does (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
As for copying multi .ts files into one file easy way is just use copy /b in a cmd window.
eg
For film with files : filename0001.ts to filename0100.ts
Open a cmd window and type:
copy /b filename*.ts JOINEDfilename.ts
simple but effective.

All i have installed on my PC is Windows 2005 MCE, Nvidia Purevideo Video decoder & media connect. Dont know why mine works, but it does
It works because you have the Purevideo decoder. For joining .ts files I use Null Packet Stripper. Its a small java utility. It seems to do a good job and works quickly.

Monday I will get my copy of Windows MCE 2005 and load it on my dual core Athlon 3800+. I just spent the morning routing cable through my baseboards in my house to my wiring closet as well so that I could connect my 360 directly to the same switch that my MCE computer will be on.
Now, my question is this. What do I have to do to play my DVD movies directly from the hard drive of my MCE box, over the network, using my 360? What is the best way to do that? Can I simply make a raw copy of the DVD to a directly on MCE and play it that way? Or do I have to rip the DVD to the hard drive, encode it into a single file and then play it back?
-
Use DVDdecrypter or similar to rip the Video_ts folder to your hard drive.
This plays with no probs on my 360.

take a ts joiner , and get 1 file out of ur ts files , im just seeing late night show on 1080i , but its a little out of sync maybe a mili second , or is it maybe cause im dloading wih 8mb/s

This is a very interesting thread and I send you my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to it so far. Just a quick recap and a few questions. I downloaded a 1080i version of Gladiator, a 22GB mammoth, and will probably merge all the .ts files and then use that "pump" program to stream it to my Xbox 360. Now, I'm assuming the 360 does the hardware decoding of the files? The reason I ask is that the movie plays very poorly for me with VLC, I can very clearly see the interlacing lines, and I'm hoping the 360 is the deciding factor of how well a film will play on the TV, and not my laptop. I will be hardwiring my Xbox 360 and Laptop via ethernet, as I doubt my 802.11G network could handle the bandwidth (it might but a full 12MB/sec sounds much better, right?) Also, I don't need MCE to pump one large .ts to the 360?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Wow you have a lot of issues that need to be addressed there, i'll try to catch them all.
First and formost, you MUST have MCE installed on your PC. No way around it. When you install the HDTVpump program on your MCE PC you don't actually have to run anything else to make it stream. It is just like installing a codec, the Media Center front end or the Xbox360 extender will handle everything after that. The next thing you need to is download and install HDTVtoMpeg and join your TS files together. Once you have done all that it should work perfectly, assuming you have installed the Xbox 360 Extender software on your PC from xbox.com/pcsetup.

never use HDTVtoMpeg , quality loss , join the files with "Simple File Joiner
Version: 2.0" or "NullPacketStripper_v013beta" . and ur set (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

How about "MPEG2Repair"?
It repairs the ts's video and audio streams and joins them to one .ts file
Will this also lose quality?

QUOTE(obstler @ Dec 3 2005, 09:33 AM)

Does connecting a USB hard drive to the XBOX 360 enable you to playback HD vids?

So, out of all these methods, which one works best for combining lots of .ts files into one big .ts file for the 360 to stream?

You're dumb...HDTV2MPEG does nothing but join the files...no re-encoding or upscaling. It does not touch the video or the bitrate unless you tell it to. Please, don't discourage people from using the best .ts joiner out there.

Use DVD Shrink, its by far the best way to convert a DVD to a single .TS file. Take note, you must go into the settings to convert the DVD into a single .TS file. Then simply rename the file from .TS to .MPG. This works great on my 360, never a single problem.

I must add, there is definitely some great info in this thread. Much more than what I have found from the AVS Forums.
1. I'll do the T2 Extreme WMV DVD tonight. The DVD has been sitting there for almost couple of years now.
2. I'll re-install HDTV2MPEG to do my .ts file combining.
3. I'll install HDTV Pump so I won't have to rename my .ts files to .mpg anymore to stream.
Now a question. For those that are streaming .ts files now, are you still able to ff and rw the movie that is playing on the 360? For some reason, the few .ts files I have played, I am unable to ff and rw without locking up the 360.
-
I've had problems with FF and RWD on the ts files also. It doesn't lock up but it doesn't work either. Pressing the track skip forward button seems to advance the frame a little at a time with each press working like a half-assed FF.

I think you're a little confused. DVD Shrink has nothing to do with .ts files. We're talking about high definition video files not DVD. Null packet stripper works well for combining multiple ts.
-
FWIW, I only got the freezing from FF RW a couple of times. I believe it was the Matrix revolutions where I got it initially. But after that it did play fine and I had to do the skip forward button press x100 to get back to my original spot.
-
A couple of updates.
1. T2 Extreme at 1080p scaled down to 1080i on my set plays great on the 360. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
2. HDTV Pump took care of the .ts file issue within MCE and the 360. I can now play .ts files without having to rename them to .mpgs
3. HDTV2MPEG combined 10gigs of .ts files in about 15mins.
Thanks for the great info from everyone here.
-
where is the best place to find hd content? i have looked around but never found a good place to download or buy movies in hd.
-
Most of my HD files are AVI or MKV... Any hope?
-
Does anyone know how to select a different language when streaming wmvhd from MCE? The native language for my rented "Bulletproof Monk" is German with English as an option through the WMVHD DVD....just have to figure out how to change it on the 360.
Thanks,

Great thread,#
Lots of great info for HD. So a few observations from where i am sitting. I am gettting some great results playing back TS streams and they look great on my 32" Samsung Via the composite lead on the 360. I've got sources in all the major formats 720p, 1080i, 1080p and H264. My TV is native 720p.
H264 seems to be a bit of a lost cause atm, I've not managed to get anything to playback on the PC or the Xbox so I'd stay away from that at the moment.
Now i can get most other stuff to play. Most of it is downloaded as multiple .ts files which I join into one big file using HDTVtoMPEG2. Unfortunatly about 1 in 5 downloads wont play. At the moment I have a blank screen where a 1080i OAR of View To A Kill should be.
I cant figure out why this is happening. A few other people on this thread have mentioned this problem. Has anyone found a fix yet?
Pease
TeamX420
Edit: as i join the .ts files in HDTVtoMPEG2 it does show the movie in the progress box, so i know its there. I'm using the same app now to convert the file to .mpg

I have a HD movie in MKV, can i encode it to wmv-hd?
-
I have a problem loading the converted TS files to MPEG... I did 2 tests last night... Convered 85 Ts files to 8 MPEG files, each of these MPEG files being 1gb.
The second test was to combine all the TS files in one big MPEG, totalling 8gb...
My problem is that when I use Xbox 360 Media center, it takes an incredible amount of time to load the file.
I can see the HD lights blinking like crazy on the PC, and it takes around 2 min to load the 1gb file onto the xbox...
With the 8gb file, the single one, I had to stop cause after 10 min, it was still not happening...
The PC is wired to the same HUB as the 360... The HUB is a 10/100MBPS so it shouldn't be a problem to stream the file right?
I have 1gb ram on the PC, and it's a fairly fast media PC...
Is there something that I'm doing wrong?
-
Assuming you're using MCE05... just install HDTVpump from dvbportal and the 360 will play .ts files without needing to convert. People are using HDTV2Mpeg just to join the .ts files... not to convert them to .mpg. You can also do this with NullPacketStripper... simple program, no way to get lost, you just have to install JRE (Java Runtime Environment) before that program can run.
On a side note... I can't get this to work with Vista although it works on MCE05. Anyone have any luck?

spot on....
only comment for peeps is that when using HDTV2MPG you need to make sure the output file is left as a .TS.
if you select Mpg it will lead to sync issues... leave it as .TS and works a treat.

I can stream .ts files to my 360 and the picture is great, however, i have no sound.
The same file will play in nero showtime with sound, files cannot play in wmp.
Any ideas?

gotta be carefull when comparing Nero Showtime, it seems to have all its own internal codecs, that are unavaliable to standard widows apps.
hence the reason the files work/sound ok in Showtime but not in WMP.
WMC and the extender use windows installed codec,s so it best to use WMP for testing.
if it works in WMP then you know the correct codecs have been installed.
the sound issues is most probably related to lack of correct codec, in this case the AC3 audio codec ?

What the hell Im I doing wrong!!!!! CRAP! I just can't get anything to stream. I have ripped a bunch of movies into a single .VOB renamed them to .MPG and they stream perfect.
BUT when I try a .TS......NOTHING!!!!!
I've tried HDTVpump, HDTVtoMPEG.....Nothing. I'm so frustrated, HELP!!

I can get them working fine, but i'm having trouble having my shared directories that i have set up in Media Center on the PC showing up in the Media Center Extender. All that shows up is the Shared Video directory from "my documents". Also is there a way to share my DVD-ROM drive on my PC as I have a lot of HD content backed up on DVD-Rs and would rather not have to transfer them to my HDD just to watch it.

you ought to be able to add any folder/drive on the MCE to the videos list in the 360.
we know that when the 360 connects it creates a temp account "MX1" or summit.
so make sure the drive/folder where you want to put the vidoes is accessable by everyone and not restricted to your account/admin account.
then you need to go to MC on the 360 and then to vids.
then press the blue button and add vids
then select this computer and it ought to list all the HD's in the MCE
you can then tick box a drive or exspand the selection for individual folders.
i have a folder on my D: partition called Media and i can see it fine...
if you using a wackop combo of XP/VMWARE/MCE then it gets a little more difficult.

ekk... when doing the above (adding folders) it dopsnt list the cd drives at all.
with or without media inserted.
i suppose if such a program exsists you might be able to use your DVD drive if you can fool the PC into thinking it is a HD or some sort of HD emulation app. but a quick swifty of google dosnt show any such apps.
i wouldnt sweat it too much...it wont be eons befor we see a full hack for the 360 and when XBMC hits the 360 it will be happy days again. TBH i would still use my xbox1 with XMBC but it cannot hack the HD content.

Yes you can, just share any folder to the 360, then inside that folder make a shortcut to your dvd drive. When you browse on the 360 to that folder you can click on the shortcut and use your dvd drive. I've been doing this for awhile now.

ok .. some information
MKV and .TS are containers.. They contain audio/video streams.. Not nessicasry the same type of stream every time.
.TS will play will HDpump
WMV-HD - play
for mkv that use x.264 encoding you have two options. Use a converter (Transcode 360/Vlc 360) or convert to WMV.
To convert you will need to install a frameserver, so install FFMEG, this allows programs that normally cannot load x.264 etc to load and access them via the frameserver.
To conver to WMV i use the MS media encoder, or some software called River. This works. It converts fine. However the sound seems to drop from 5.1 to 2.
What we need to be able to do (and i cannt work out how) is to extract the audio stream in 5.1 (mkvextract) and then convert the video 'river' or MME, then some how mutex the sound in 5.1 back into the wmv container.
-
so more info (edit not working)
WMV can only Hold Stero and a max bitrate of 8meg per sec.
MPEG2 - can support AC3 (5.1) and up to 28meg per second.
So what I think we need to do is the following:
x/h.264 extract the streams (mkvextact) to get a video and audio (ac3)
Convert the x264 using a framebuffer to mpeg2
then add in the audio.
personnaly i get mixed results, and a lot of the time the 360 will freeze or go hyper slow if the file even exists on a share folder.
(I think when you go into videos the 360 drills down thru the movies tryign to create the thumbnails) and hangs on some mpegs ..
So what we need to do it.
Find reliable software to convert to mpeg2
find reliable software to insert the ac3 stream into the mpeg2 .
anyone got any ideas?
-
So could you please explain one more time, how to play mkv x,h264 hd , Are you talking about on the fly converting?? Because i have all the material burned, so any reencoding is a no go. Tnx for your answers.

I`m also interested in this. How can I play x264 HD movies?

I made my own topic on this but anyways
In WMP 11 Beta 2, Microsoft added the ability to act like MCE and play videos right on the xbox, even if you have XP pro.
Has anyone tried this yet?
Any luck on x264 ?

just go to the music section on your xbox 360 and select your computer.
If you get errors then your connection isnt setup properly... try running windows network setup wizard.
You must also select which folders you want to share and make sure that your xbox360 has sharing enabled in wmp11. If you are unsure of what i mean then just go to help topics in wmp11 and search for xbox
-
You people are not being nearly specific enough. To clarify:
1. the 360 will playback WMV7 through to WMV9 standard profile footage including the crappy "WMV-HD" which is just higher resolutions than the standard D1 resolution footage
2. Playback mpeg1 / mpeg 2 including higher than D1 resolution
Thats it.
It does not universally support WMV : there is no WMV9-AP VC1 decoder.
There is no AVC / H.264 support.
As much as they support WMV7-WMV9 which are quasi proprietary mpeg4-asp like codecs, there is no mpeg4-asp support.
