Im guessing you work for at a MS call center?
-
is that EST, PST?
-
I work at a call-center, yes.
I actually posted the same on the xbox.com forum and... got banned.
Anywho, yeah... it SHOULD be out around 6pm. Supervisors are asking people to stay late incase anything goes wrong.
-
If this is true. FINALLY!!
I just came on the forum specifically to check this!
-
because, of course, nothing EVER went wrong with previous updates...
-
so as another person asked, is that EST or PST? There is a 3 hour difference between the coasts. Just wondering.
this update gonna kill my 360?
-
Sorry about that--it's EST.
as for it frying your 360, i should hope not! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
-
Hmm doesn't sound like a normal time of day for this type of thing.

Didn't previous updates arrive at 12?
I'm not sure.
-
First update was on a saturday, I believe... second was, shoot... I can't remember.
I'm just relaying what my email said.
-
If this guy isn't pulling our chains, its about flipping time. This damn thing was supposed be out almost a week ago.
To the original poster: Would the delayed release have anything to do with the dvd drive firmware hack?
-
ok thats 1 down. now where the hell is my SFII

As for the dvd hack issue causing the release delay, I wouldn't know about that. I only work at a call center--I have nothing to do with the updates.
I'll be here until 6.30est, so I'll find out around then if the email is true or not.
-
well if this is true its just Fing great I cant log on with my gamertag for some reason, the other name on my 360 can tho.
-
I hope this is true, I've been waiting with baited breath since they announced this thing.
-
I'd like to believe you, but one thing that irks me is...
Why would they launch it on Monday at 6pm (asking its employees to stay late) instead of noon? If they do in fact need the extra 6 hours, why not just delay the release until Tuesday morning? It's not a critical update... and why would you be asked to stay late? Isn't there a night shift? I thought 8004MYXBOX was 24/7.

Unless you don't have a job most people are at work during the majority of the day (gather there are some that have evening jobs and work something besides 1st shift). They probably consider it critical... being as if you don't have it you prolly won't connect to live. maybe they are just wanting as many that can stay in case there is a high volume of calls that come in right at 6 when the servers get pounded from the constant downloads...

QUOTE(CapnCallCenter @ Jun 5 2006, 01:47 PM)
Nope. Support is open until 1am EST, 2am on REALLY busy days. We open at 9am.
And I think they've started the whole 'stay late' thing because the last update caused some problems (tho that was mostly because xbox live had to be taken down--remember the week before E3, everyone?) and we just got our ASSES kicked.
And while it's not a -critical- update, it -is- an IMPORTANT update. And something could go wrong...
That answers my question about the 'shop hours' of support... but not my other one. Why not just delay release until Tuesday? There seems to be no logical reason for putting the update out at the end of the work day which, if there were any problems, would allow thousands more people to be "exposed" to said problems.
Also, sp3cialk, I'm at work now (on lunch) checking up. I understand that most people are at work during the full waking day (8am-8pm). I certainly am (if you include my commute), but that just asserts my curiosity... why offer it up at the end of the day when problems will have the most exposure?
Honestly, I believe you CapnCallCenter but I won't believe anyone but the Major until I see it online. Thanks for the heads up though! Nothing personal.

Just guessing here and don't want to start an argument... maybe they are using the low user usage on live to do backups today... that way they won't lose anything if the update messes up things... just a guess like i said... and i'm boggled myself as to why they picked such a strange time for the update's release.
-
That's possible. Maybe they don't want to launch an update on 6-6-06
Guess we'll find out tonite!

yea... that's when the world ends anyway... they wanna give us a few hours before that to experience the update...
-
6pm is way long gone
im assuming american time?
-
i left mine running when i went home on lunch break lol
wish they had auto updates enabled
-
QUOTE(CapnCallCenter @ Jun 5 2006, 03:13 PM)
you want auto updates, get a wii. heh.
Probably will... not givin up my 360 I just have to have all the consoles... so I can be avoid being bias over any certain one.
-
Ok Something really weird just happened, I was sitting at my dash listening to music and I got kicked from Live. My roommate did also, I just got back on and none of my friends got back on, but wtf no update. oh well I guess I can wait a bit longer
-
yea i just got kicked of as well.
-
Whoa... xbox.com is down?!
-
It was anyways, got the "server apllication messgae"
-
xbox.com just went down for me a second ago wonder if this is the real thing
-
is that 6pm eastern?
-
I can still log onto xbox live no problem, and Xbox.com works fine for me.
-
QUOTE(nuke field ET @ Jun 5 2006, 04:02 PM)
yes, I believe so
another note, I've never seen so many people so anxious for a dash update before
Yeah, seriously, I'm all kinds of antsy, I'm stickin around here for updates ....can you imagine if they let us play vids without WinMCE in the next update...if they pull this kind of delay someone might be taken hostage!
-
I think most people are ansy to see if the 360's with the hacked firmware get banned..I can't see any other reason for why an update would concern anyone.
-
If this update doesn't kill the firmware then I don't think any future ones can
-
i just got my 360 (used) a few days ago and it wants to update. Should i update? i dont have a FW hack i just wanted to check out live, as i have never been on.

check out live now then, once the update is released you will be required to download the update if you want to connect to xbox live. the only way to avoid getting the update is to say no when it asks and stay off live (as you'll be promted to update every time you try to connect)

Crap. So all this wating and fretting today was for nothing... the update's coming TOMORROW. guh.
Didn't u say that it was coming out 2day @ 6 pm EST?? so WTF are you surprised about??? I think we are a little too trusting of random people saying that they know stuff.

Well it wants me to update right now. is there any way to tell what update it is?
-
Its one of the initial updates, the newest one launched tomorrow, the update it wants you to do is old.

Ya know, earlier, he said there was going to be an update release, and a lot of people said he was full of it. Then, ppl started getting dropped of Live (prolly in preperation for the updates, and prolly why he was told he'd have to work late). Then, because the update is releasing ***HOURS*** after he said it would, you wanna grab a cross & some nails...There are a lot of things that could have delayed the release, and so many ppl getting dropped offa live could be from some error that delayed the update release.
I, for one, think that he's proven himself to be trustworthy, just not all-knowing. Give the guy a break. He was just trying to help us out with a little info.
I understand that, but lets just say that he was told ok, 6 p.m. est for a release time. AND they asked him to stay late. Why, would they ask him to stay late being 2 AM and he is prolly the guy who works during the daytime. Lets say at the last minute they decided to hold it till 6/6/06 for a release, why would he not post again with updated info, AND give that post he make that i quoted him for. Sounded like he had no idea about it either. I am not saying he is the 1st to know when it is coming out, and yes i do appricate his posting, but if he knew it was coming out at a certain time, he shoudl have know about the time change eventually.
-
I agree with cynicl, and if anyone takes offense to your posts they need to pull their dicks out of their asses, your opinion is well thought out and very logical. I think that he was able to give us the info to within a day is pretty damn good. Everyones else who has "known" was a week off. Kudos for the info.
