will it work with bo-xlink? bo-xlink is byfar the best alternative to xbox live. it stops the need to run back and forth between computer and xbox. please add support for it and if not, create a new app for the xbox so that we dont have to run between computer and xbox. (the goal is to make gaming online easier and more accessable and not harder and more complicated!!!!!!!!!!!!)

j4ever -
No Bo-XLink support. Remote control of XLink RC3 via Xbox is being integrated into Avalaunch dashboard though and is supposed to be better than Bo-XLink. <

I get a little touchy when I read things like that. This whole thing is FREE. Every homebrew application you download, is FREE.
People have LIVES. That means, wife, kids, job etc. They don't spend 24 / 7 coding new things for everyone to play with. Bo-XLink, it takes time, and effort, and skill, and the brains to do it.
TD decided this time around to stop focusing on Bo-XLink, as XBox homebrew development isn't his forte (but still, damn good effort on Bo-XLink RC2). The most frequently updated software on the XBox scene is the dashboard. It's also the most widely used. I don't know of many people who mod their XBox and just leave it with the current MS dashboard, running emulators and games from DVDs etc.
So that's why the decision was made to see who'd be interested in taking over hte production of a "Bo-XLink" clone. Naturally, the good guys at Team Avalaunch put their hands up, and they will most likely be the first to release the in-built support for XLink Kai in their dashboard (don't ask me when!). It's almost there, and I would highly encourage people to try it out when it's released, and help them weed out the bugs.
But that's not all. I'm not so sure I'm allowed to say this, but we've now gotten XBMC, UnleashX and MediaXMenu all beginning to build Kai functionality into their dashboards. As for Evox, well, they seem to have disappeared from the face of the planet (all respect to them for revolutionizing the XBox though).
You may or may not see a standalone Bo-XLink clone made by one of these teams, or maybe by some other experienced coder who we respect and know, but not by TD or Team XLink.
So please, realise that the world doesn't revolve around yourself and that there are constraints. If you do use Evox, well you can still install these dashes and use Kai from there, but I think after a while you'll get sick of that and make a switch over to an alternative... <
When using road runner be advised with sys link games. The xbox is having problems sending and receiving packets with the newer toshiba modems. The toshiba pcx 2200 or a motorola surfboard is your best bet. This problem affects mostly voice and not being able to connect to sys link games. This will remain a problem until MS sends out a patch or just get a better modem. I had the pcx 2600 which sucked! I know have the surfboard 4200 and I'm going to try it out later. So if you have any of these problems contact your isp and see if they can get you an older modem. <

you don't understand. You will be able to talk through the PC version of Kai, and here it in avalaunch through kai. Also, you'll be able to talk through the pc, and other people will be able to hear your voice through the pc. This is a great solution to people not having xbl headsets.

Evo7 might be close but we do not know if development has even started back up yet. TD might not even has his Internet back up yet, and since he is pretty much staying out of the forums until it is complete, we have not idea when it will be done.
Also, there is a bete 7 or 006-2 out there, it's just not posted here. I read somewhere in these forums that XBMC client only works with the beta that it not posted up here also.
Can you confirm this? |
here is what i can confirm...
work has restarted on kai evo 7.
it is near completion.
there is only beta 6 "out there".
yes, xbmc's recent code allows for interoperability with kai 6.

Man, I hope its not like an old car restore. We all have our project like that at home (I use mine to hang cloths on now).
I love the beta version of Kai. As long as that is working, I am good. Just take your time creating everything and making sure that it works from the get go so you dont have to be like some tunneling apps (XBC) that need to release an update to the new version 5 days after it was released. Thanks for all of the hard work!

it's soooo cool!
hopefully avalaunch will support it soon - would be great if it worked right out of the main screen (without starting xbmc)...

I know for XBMC but what i don't like is to start PC side of KAI, why ? Because if you have Full KAI directly from Xbox without KAI on PC, then anybody with a computer (PC, MAC etc.,.) with an internet connection will be able to play.
It's the best thing to have. Don't need to work on Mac version or other, except if someone want to chat at the same time, but me when i play, i don't have time to chat

Well maybe in a year or two anyways

OK my question is this - XBConnect and X-Link claim to work with any System Link software, but whenever I run them, I'm always confronted with a drop-down list of games to choose from. I read somewhere (maybe here on xbox-scene) that they needed drivers or special code specific to each game, sort of like Mame and other emulators do.
Will it be possible to play ANY system-link software on Kai? I'm specifically talking about XBox here, not PS2 or GC (i dont have lan adapters for them...yet).
Most of my emulators have system link support and I was wondering if it would be possible to play these over Kai, similar to how Kaillera works...seeing as the emu authors have already included system link ability with their emu's, is it possible to just take, say, Final Burn or FCEUltra and play against someone with the same emu/Kai version?
Think of it in terms of Mame vs NeoRageX - Mame needs drivers for each game or else it won't load them, whereas NeoRageX was developed to theoretically work with any neogeo game that came out (probably why it hasn't been updated in a while)
This is an open question btw - any advice is greatly appreciated
Looking forward to this either way. Good luck with the release!
this app is gonna blow XBC out of the water! are you going to have a "pro" version, like with xbconnect, or are u not going to be gay and make us pay 25 some odd dollars to let us play chess with the opposition while waiting for a game to start? also, i saw the picture of the kai pc side, looked pretty tight, but how much ram is it going to take up? on my computer (pretty slow) xbc makes it run like a snail, it uses a lot of ram on my pc, does kai? also what launguege are you coding this program in?

| QUOTE (flat235 @ May 7 2004, 04:48 PM) |
A good question,
Yes, evo7 will support any sort of syslink game. This is a pretty unique feature of Kai:
> WarpPipe requires driver-type plugins for each game
> XBConnect does not support homebrew games (ie does not support std. IP addressing on the xbox) - so your emus wouldnt work.
It's been a pain in the ass to tunnel homebrew on xbox before, mainly through the need to get everyone on a different IP, but on the same subnet. Thankfully, Kai destroys this barrier by implementing a DHCP server internally, which supplies your xbox with a globally unique config, which is perfect for playing online homebrew. No need to play with settngs - just put ure xbox in DHCP (auto-config IP) mode, start Kai on PC, reboot box, play homebrew
Im thinking that this advancement in Kai will fuel some pretty enjoyable homebrew play - as all the current emus/etc with syslink will "just work" with evo7.
TD |
Sublime. Absolutely sublime.
As for Warppipe needing drivers for each game, I doubt that'll be an issue any time soon (only 3 games use lan, or something).
Now for the peeps:
I think all this talk about Kai squashing 'super tunnel software X' is a bit elitist isnt it? its not even out yet, and already ppl are sounding like ninty fans bigging up ninty's next console "it's gonna X, Y and Z, man!"
While I'm laying in wait for what is obviously going to be the best tunneling software around, lets not forget that XBConnect was the first on the scene, and it's what most tunneling people will have started out with.
Kudos to you guys developing it, and I feel for you when people say "put this in and put that in or else you won't be fulfilling my wants" - I've just started programming in C++ (wish me luck!) so that I can try XBox programming and it's true - we (meaning you guys) DO have lives!

And if we don't? Like there is any alternative. I certainly can't code it. Take the time you need, keep some balance in your lives, have fun, and when it's ready - release it and enjoy a game amonst the fans. The fact that everyone is so anxiously waiting is a testament to everyone enjoying the fruits of your efforts.
Well, if not anything else. Just knowing it will be soon sure does keep me on the XS Xlink Forums a lot waiting for the word that it can be downloaded. I would like to offer any assistance in helping to promote Kai in any way I can. Just let me know what you want, how you want it. And it will be done. Even if you need another location to host the app for new users once it is out. If you don't want money, maybe people can help this way.

Yeah, it would be nice to know once Kai 7 is out, how many hits there are for the download app. I don't think I was this excited for my first born (But I am sure I was). And I know I have not been on XS as much as I have been recently, sitting waiting (patiently) for the next big thing to happen in my life. I can't wait to kick people. So many of you are already gone and dont even know it. Team killers (TK's), cheaters, punks, and most of all people that don't speak the same language as the game is played in. Dont think I have forgotten you because it has been a while since it happened. The amazing thing is, this is all for us. Team Xlink has created/built from the ground up not only the best tunneling apps out to date (Kai 6 beta soon even better with Kai 7) and at the same time a family within X land. Man that sounds gay as hell, all I am saying is damn. It really does mean a lot! Thanks
Are you saying that your gonna boot nice people like Frag Daddy who gets a little carried away once in a while?
Man, I like Frag Daddy. He will be welcome, but an explanation or even apology would be nice. But thats just me.
Will Kai Evolution VII support Wireless connected PC for tunelling ? Since it doesn't rely on WinPcap anymore, it would be great it could work.
I really need my PC to be connected Wireless and my XBOX to be connected to my router with a wire. Don't ask why, I can't change that setup. That's the only way I can connect all my stuff given the "geography" of my appartment.
I would like to be able to use Kai and I'm sure I'm not the only one here.
What's even worse, is people who join a foreign language server (like French), and then complain/make fun of the people who speak French. Those people should be booted.
