Have you tried swapping out the HDD?  Do you still have the original (OEM) HDD?  Hopefully its unlocked.

Sounds like somehow the hdd got locked and the unlock code changed on the eeprom.  Any chance you wrote down the unlock code at some point?

No, I haven't tried swapping. I don't have the tools, and I'll have to ask my dad for them which sucks because he'll be ticked that I screwed it up, even though I didn't do anything wrong.

Yes, I still have the origional stock drive, doubt it's unlocked though.

I still have the unlock codes to the eeproms before I flashed them....is that what I'm looking for?

I had that exact same problem: error 06. It means that the HDD can not be unlocked. This is because you didn't follow the instructions. Unlocking the HDD goes via a code stored in the EEPROM. If you flash the EEPROM, without unlocking and re-locking the HDD, the code stored in the EEPROM is different then the code used to lock the HDD with. That is the reason why the flash instructions state UNLOCK -> Flash EEPROM -> LOCK in that specific order. If you use some other tool then ConfigMagic, you might have to reboot before re-locking, as I am not sure if the new EEPROM is loaded after flashing. ConfigMagic uses the new EEPROM however. My solution: I went to the store where I bought the HDD (that same day) and stated it wouldn't work in Windows.  laugh.gif I got myself a brand new 320GB HDD. Yeeeh! But on the way home it occured to me what I did wrong: I locked the HDD using EvolutionX, not ConfigMagic. Stupid mistake.

OK, so what to do if you can't return the HDD. To unlock the HDD you need the old EEPROM, which is the one you locked the HDD with. You also need a spare HDD. What you need to do is hook up an unlocked drive in the Xbox, and then flash the old EEPROM back to the Xbox. Then you swap HDD's, so now your HDD that gave the error 06 is in the Xbox. If you flashed the right EEPROM, it should now unlock. Next, you UNLOCK!!! it, then flash the EEPROM. Reboot, just to be sure, and then lock the HDD again. (Of course, if you use ConfigMagic, rebooting can be skipped).

After that you should be fine.

If you don't have a spare HDD: there are some tools for your PC that can unlock your HDD as well. You need the locking password, which you state you do have. In the PC tools section of Xbox-scene you can find some PC unlocking programs. They work in DOS however, so you need a boot disc as well.

Using a spare HDD in your Xbox is much more easy however. But either way, you will be opening up your Xbox, so go ask your dad for these tools. You need a Torx-10 and Torx-20 I believe.

Thanks for the help....

What do you mean by boot disc?

And where (and for how much) can you get the tools.....Radio Shack?

A boot disc is a floppy (if your computer even has one) with bootable files on it, so you can run DOS. But if you don't know what a bootdisc is, you probably don't wanna go that way. The boot-disc solution also requires you to open up your pc and install the Xbox HDD in it. The "get another HDD" solution is much easier, provided you have the old EEPROM.

You can get the screwdrivers from any decent hardware store. Should be quite cheap; a couple of dollars. Just pick the cheapest you can find.

Thanks for the help, I was going to do it the PC way but I really don't want to open it....hopefully I left my stock drive unlocked. If not I guess I'll try and find the cheapest hdd I can find at Compusa or Best Buy.

EDIT: Better yet, can you unlock a hdd with a soft modded xbox? My friend wanted me to soft mod his and I can unlock his hdd and put it in if you can.

You can, but the softmodded xbox would have to have the eeprom that locked the drive originally.

If ConfigLive was used, then just unlock the damn thing with the master password (TEAMASSEMBLY).
Not very hard.

Get a PC program called atapwd and create a boot disc with it (or just download a free copy of the "ultimate boot disc" since it's already on there).

Stick the xbox hard drive in your PC, power on your PC with the boot disc in the drive, load up atapwd & use the master password to unlock it.

Since you have a modchip, you can now use your hard drive on your xbox (again).

for future reference... use ConfigMagic, unlock your hdd then load your eeprom.bin file. Make the region setting change, then update your eeprom. Afterwards, load your eeprom.bin file again, then lock your hdd to the xbox... done.

If you would take the time to read, you would see that opening the PC is not an option...

Anyway, unlocking the drive on a softmodded xbox is also an option. You can do it two ways: insert your locked HDD in the softmodded Xbox, or unlock the HDD in the softmodded Xbox and put that in your Xbox. But either way, you MUST have the old EEPROM.

I'll explain both procedures.

Install "dead" HDD in softmodded Xbox:
0) Make a backup of the softmodded Xbox's EEPROM
1) Unlock the HDD in the softmodded Xbox using ConfigMagic
2) Flash the OLD EEPROM to the softmodded Xbox using ConfigMagic
3) Turn off the softmodded Xbox and swap its HDD with your "dead" HDD
4) Boot up the softmodded Xbox. It should now work
5) Unlock the "dead" HDD, which is now not dead anymore
6) Swap HDD's again, so that each Xbox has its HDD that it started the procedure with
7) Flash the softmodded Xbox's EEPROM backup to the softmodded Xbox, and lock its HDD (both using ConfigMagic)
8) Flash the EEPROM you want on your own Xbox using ConfigMagic, and lock the HDD (both using ConfigMagic)

Done

Other way around: install the softmodded Xbox's HDD in your own:
0) Unlock the softmodded Xbox's HDD
1) Install the softmodded Xbox's HDD in your own Xbox
2) Run ConfigMagic on your own Xbox, and flash the OLD EEPROM to it using ConfigMagic
3) Put the HDD's back in the Xbox's that they were in before you began
4) Flash the EEPROM you want on your own Xbox, then lock its HDD (both using ConfigMagic)
5) Lock the HDD in the softmodded Xbox

Done

So, the second option is the easiest. This also has the least risk. You don't wanna wreck your friends Xbox as well.  smile.gif

Thanks for the help....I think I'll do that second option as long as my old hdd isn't unlocked.

Ok, a bit of a problem.

1. Locking my friend's soft modded box in my hdd and putting it in his gives us an 06 error.

2. Unlocking my friend's hdd in my hard modded box and putting it in his gives us an 05 error.

WTF

Ok...flashed his eeprom (which thank to go the soft mod backed up on his hdd), locked his hdd, put in my unlocked one, flashed my old eeprom and locked it....thank god.

The ammount of set backs and (what turned out to be half hour's later) easy solutions we had was incredible....we spent 7 hours doing half an hour of work.

Glad you got it worked out.
