do you already have an xbox? if so keep that one modded and just use th enew one stock on Live
and if you already have a gamertag you only need a new one if youve been banned before and want to use a large HD on Live

You can change both. You can make a PAL region 4 a NTSC region 1 and take it onto Live. Make sure the box is a Live virgin. If they have the eeprom tagged as PAL region 4 and you then sign into Live with it changed to NTSC, then at the very least, you are going to get flagged.

the philips in the 1.6s are even better than the old samsungs, you shoudl be glad if you get one
as for a "proper" chip opposed to a TSOP, what exactly do you need to do with it? i have a flashed TSOP myself and i personally have never found any need for anything more expensive, and ive done damn near every mod there is, lol (im very defensive of my TSOP)
