I've found a lot of people crying that they never went on xlive and then got banned etc etc etc, but what a lot of folks are missing is that these games now-a-days are LIVE ENABLED GAMES. What that means is even though you have "do not automatically connect to xlive" selected in your M$ dashboard configuration, when you pop in that madden 2k5 or halo2 or Rainbow 3,
your xbox connects up to M$ servers regardless if you have a network cable plugged into your box.
ummmm thats what i just said. if you have a network cable plugged into your xbox, an xbox live enabled game will connect up regardless of whether or not you have "automatically sign" in disabled.
Thanks I just now recieved dsl before now it was good old dial-up so I know its never connected to xbox live before now.
You should be fine. Go for it!
Edit:
Ps: Lock your HD if you haven't.

So a game will connect to xbl even if you don't use xboxlive and the network cable is connected?
He was talking about a game connecting to Live even without the cat 5 cable connected.
I just thought it was funny to think about the idea of M$ being able to ban an xbox withouth one.
Also, about the Auto Connect thing... all the last dashboards updates that M$ has been doing do turn your auto connect to yes automatically without asking a thing. It was discovered by someone in this forums when tsunami was coming out in its first phase.
So X2 4983.06 bios takes and stops games from using the network when you are in your mod dashboard. Does it keep you from using back up games on xlink or xbconnect.
IF what you guys say is true, that it will no matter sign u in how about put a password to the account like that you have time to recginze if your chip is of or on.

I just double checked it and my statement is false:
Automatically sign-on has to be enabled.
Network connectivity to the Xbox.
A live enabled game in the dvd tray.
This is all that is needed. Unaware to me I had auto sign in enabled. Strange though because I set it to disabled a long time ago. I don't know if something got reset when it goes through its clock reset routine every now and then.
auto-signin gets re-enabled when the dash is updated. new games will auto-update the dash. new dvds will auto-update the dash, xbl will auto-update the dash.
ergo, to not get banned, you MUST use a live blocking bios.
A more reliable method of preventing live connections is to keep your account on a memory card only and pull it out when booting with modchip on. There are 3rd party memory cards which are a lot cheaper than the M$ version. Also, a USB memory stick with an Xbox->USB adapter will work like a memory card.
