Okay I had 3 Xboxes.
Xbox 1
V1.0
Xecuter 2.2Pro, Stock HDD
Xbox 2
V1.6
Xecuter 2.3bLite, 120GB Maxtor
Xbox 3.
V1.6b
Xecuter 3, 120GB Segate
Only one gamertage was used, all 3 Xboxes were used to access Live for the first time using the states described above.
I removed the Maxtor from Xbox 2 and put it into Xbox 1 and tried to access live and got the modified message. Then I tried to return Xbox 1 to factory state and go on live but it was banned so no go. Now I returned the Maxtor to Xbox 2 and now it was also banned.
I bought a new crystal with a new 120GB Seagate and then went onto live and used the account recovery option, and it now works on Live, and I haven't been banned as if yet. Been on for 72 hours.
Hope this makes sense and helps some people. I believe that the marriage theory is indeed correct.

awsome, 3 different eeproms?
so i guess they marry the eeprom and the hdd, so if u remove either 1, both of them get banned.
try using that maxtor hdd with the eeprom from xbox 3 to see if a banned hdd will work with a fresh eeprom.

But I've seen posts from people that got banned even when they were using the HDD/EEPROM combo they used when they first signed onto Live.

I am using a "stealth install" so basically C is like it came from the factory and all my games, apps, and dashboards are all on F. I don't want to put the Maxtor in the Crystal as this is my main Xbox and I want to keep it for LIVE.
To the person that read of people using a new HDD/EEprom combo, I don't know what to say. I read those too and was concerned, but like I said from my own testing as I had 2 Xboxes which didn't matter if the were banned and a third virgin Xbox that I just bought I conducted my own tests, and I've been on live for 72 hours playing Halo 2 and signing in and out many times in a day. I've had the last week off of school so I had some time to test this theory.

I am using an X3 chip with the X3 1.6b bios, and used Firefuckers to set up my HDD. Firefuckers installed everything on F and updated the dash for me.
