Title: Xenium And Xbox Live:
Post by: realmccloy on April 20, 2004, 10:09:00 AM
Hey all, I have just opened my new premod and have begun to play around with it.  I have one question about XBOX Live.  I have a few games that I play on XBOX Live and I want to make sure I know how to do this without getting banned.  I know that I will have to play from the disk, and that doesn't bother me.  The guy that modded a machine for me originally wasn't offering the Xenium chip, but after getting a lot of requests decided to do so.  Our original discussion that I forgot about, and obviously he did to, was about the importance of getting on XBOX Live.  He at that time recommended Xecuter 2.3 saying it was the best for XBOX Live, but never elaborated.  About two weeks later in another conversations told me he was now offering the Xeniums and thought they were better because they were easier to flash.  I see no external "switch" like device to turn off the mod chip.  I have seen posts on other forums where people have mentioned  this.  Now they may be talking about switching off from a menu option, that I am not sure.  When my system boots the first screen says, "Xenium" then I get a page that says, "MS Dashboard, Xecuter2 4981 06, then Bank 1, Bank 2 etc..etc...  I am thinking if I just am loading the MS Dashboard the Xecuter bios doesn't get noticed right?  Do I just select MS Dashboard instead of Xecuter2?  Or am I predisposed of only using XBOX Connect from now on unless I do something else to my machine and/or buying another console for XBOX Live use?  Any and all info is greatly appreciated!

Based on what you describe, by selecting MS Dashboard you will be ok. Xecuter BIOS has a hack in it that prevents you from accessing Live when it is active, so I doubt you could "accidentally" get banned.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that was the way to go.  I just the first time selected that method and when the green X comes on prior to loading the dashboard I do not see the word Xecuter2 below it as I do when I boot the modded bios.  I think I worded that correctly...HA.  Anyway, thanks a bunch for the reply.  I am going to go attempt my account recovery now.

Only some Xecuter bioses prevent you from connecting to live. Not all. Make sure you're using one that does prevent the connection.

That's what I thought, until I got banned last week after booting to the original bios.  I have xbox v 1.3, Xenium, and running evoX M7 bios.  I booted my system, and at the Xenium startup screen, pressed the white button.  When the next screen came up ("Original bios/EvoX M7/X2/bank3/bank4"), I ejected the drive and inserted MechAssualt, then (without closing the tray) selected "Original bios".  The system rebooted to the MS bios as expected, so I closed the disc tray, at which point the system attempted to connect to xbox live.  After a few seconds, I got a note saying that I was unable to connect to xbox live because my "hardware or software had been modified..." (or something very close to that, anyway).  Ever since, I haven't been able to connect.  When I attempt to troubleshoot, it checks all my configuration, then gives me the same error.

I'm kind of bummed, but not too bad.  I really didn't use xbox live that much anyway.  I'm just pissed that I won't ever be able to again  dry.gif   What a buzz-kill.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

There are rumers that some games banns you from live even if you even don't have a live account. I will make a separate thread about it for you to follow.

Thanks for the help Marksu and EmperorPsiblade.  I'm still a nOOb, so I'm learning new things on a "need to know" basis.  So far, I've had pretty good luck (with one minor exception...case in point wink.gif )...

Marksu- I believe your idea is correct.  I know for sure that I never attempted to connect to live while using a modded bios, but if certain games are "tagging" your system that would explain my problem.

Emperor Psiblade- from what I've read, I thought it was near impossible to recover a banned xbox (unless you can convince a friend with an unmodded xbox to give you their serial number, or something like that).  I'll read up on replacing my eeprom and see if that works.

Thanks again.  Cheers.

Well you are kind of right about the getting serial from a friend.

You need to get eeprom that is from a xbox that has not been banned (modded or not). That eeprom contains serial identifying the xbox and that is how the live won't recognise your xbox as the previous banned xbox.

There are ppl that sell eeprom updates.
Bad thing is that if one eeprom has been sold to many ppl and one of them gets banned then all get banned that used the same eeprom. dry.gif

Just buy a new eeprom man, my friend bought one for 7 bucks froma reputable seller online (name had z in it, I forget), anyways, the guy never double sells eeproms, and they are ALL OVER the buy and sell forums. Just look there, if you xbox is modded, it is quite easy.
