Just read the news man, I'm not giving much away by saying that is related to the 007 trick and being able to boot other things like Linux on an unmodded Xbox.

My understanding was the the banning could happen anywhere from instantly to 1 week. If so, how can you be sure unless you did this a couple weeks back, repeatedly, and have still not been banned?

If you did it, good for you! Bad for the people who actually paid to have a Live account  biggrin.gif

Sheep's Tutorial on Getting DOAX Beach Volley Ball on an Unmodded Xbox

QUOTE
I'm not sure what to make of your last comment, even people who play backups on Xbox Live or cheat still need to pay for Xbox Live to get an account unless you commit credit card fraud.

If you really want to try it, try that method, using a different game compatible with xbox live.  Crusader, i really question how much you know about what you're posting, this method could easily lead to cheating/hacks/exploits on xbox live games. Think about it, if your running games off a harddrive, you could theoritaclly play on xbox live with modified games (The Serious Sam trainer on todays news).  Whether MS decides to do something about it or not, depends on if these exploits become fully developed and interfere with legitament xbox live customers.

You're right, I really don't understand jackcrap about this development, but let's just say I have many interesting and intelligent friends on IRC.

It will be interesting to see if M$ runs xbe or hard drive scans now and whether or not they combine this with the preexisting protection scheme or drop it....they can only make a security system so robust and the two protection methods would work on two entirely different principles.

1. patch the kernel to not allow the buffer opverflow.
2. run a hd scan on xbox live users and delete the save.
3. run a hd scan for backups on e and delete it.
4. run a hd scan for the games xbe with the fake sighed code and format the hd back to orignal and ban your from live.
5. serch for a f: partation and format the hd back to defalt or distorying it depending on what m$ dediced to do. all those would resalt in a ban
6. anything else that i didnt think of that live checks.

all these things are checked on live. they just dont bother with them other then banning a modchip but now they will. they knoe each and every user with there chipsoff on live they just dont worry unless its on. they knoe of all expolites and how to patch them they just didnt worry abought the 007 expolite untill now. i guess you cant keep lame people form doing something to rune it for the rest. couse now they will use the hd check and ill never be able to use live with my chip off couse i might have a file it dont like. thanks alot now ill need another xbox.

Yah, and Live knows when I take a pee too. It's a question of how far MS is willing to go to combat a relatively small percentage of Xbox Live users.

you dont wanna knoe. the whole thing on xbox live is 100% cheater and pirecy free. so how far will they go well lets say your xbox will expolde into a million pices befor they let 1 user use a backup in live for long. i simply posted the stuff they have on live at the moment not anything new i dont knoe abought. just all thats a bannable offence right now is a modchip on but im shure in a few days that will change.

all a backup in live does in rune the fun for the legimit modchip owners that dont try to run backups on live or simply dont have any to run and use it for homebrew. couse m$ will run alot more checks and ban people with lets say a backup on f: even thow there chip is off and there playing a dvd game they get banned. expoliting xbox live does not help anymoe it just damages the scean.

will these kids liston no well they get banned and be back hear begging for a eprom yes will people with chips be able to play on live with there chips off after this gets out to the puplic no. so where is this helping anyone other then maybe being able to use a backup on live for maybe a week.

that has to be the most ignorent post ever. windows doesent exest on 1 server. if it did it would be just as inpossbale. windows doesnt have consent checkes for a cracked exe.windows doesent scan its own hd to make shure you dont have a backup there. windows doesent need a modchip to get past the sighing. you cant get banned from windows.

You're right in some ways, unfortunately there isn't a relevant past example to look to. But it is relevant in the sense of M$'s crappy record when it comes to security in their products and combating piracy. And MS tried to stop the pirating of Windows with their lame authentification checks with the release of SP1 and failed.

Also, MS stands a lot more to lose with the pirating of Windows than they do with Xbox Live. Not only does Windows cost a lot more, but even hackers and cheaters still have to pay for Xbox Live before using it.

naa hackers and cheaters get banned weather they whant to admit to it or not. evently they get removed. fucking with live only pisses off m$ step ups its securty and give m$ yet another excuse to go bitch and whine abought modded systems. and abuse the dcma even more. couse now something m$ doesent see as thret will become a thret and are expoltes will be patched. removed banned etc. there just thowing gas on the fire.

if we took all these pireting punks and druge them out in the street and shot them we wouldent need modchips couse the system would aruldy be unlocked. (execpt for mp3 traders the riaa can go fuck itself). so dont say im 100% agenst pirecy lol. at least m$ doesent sue kids and sue everyone who tryes to get on xbl with a chip on.

Maybe you should look in to operating system development, Bill Gates didn't program windows all by himself.  What's wrong with trying to protect an investment of billions of lines of code?  Try developing software for a living before you judge how other people develop it themselves.

With the way you talk all high and mighty against M$, you better be running a Linux distro & a well knowledged programmer, otherwise your a fucking hypocrite and a tool.

Crusader, the fact that you have taken this original topic into a new direction proves you have bs'ed the story about a backup running on Live.

Nice attempt though.

Crusader, Which Linux platform are you currently using?

-edit, I had a hunch that Crusader has made up BS on a number of his posts. Anybody that looks back at all of his posts should notice a consistency of unprovable self reflections and personal beliefs(including constant editing).  This post was an attempt to poke at his credibility, of which he has failed to establish with me.  My guess is he'll never respond to this post, because i think it would be very easy to disprove that he has even touched a linux system.  While i don't doubt that getting a copied game to run on xbox live is still possible, it would definently take more then a post from Crusader for me to believe it.  To the rest of the xbox community, realize it's people like this that do nothing but misguide the scene.  I'm sure he's one of those compulsive liars that gets kicks out of renaming  his Goat_Pr0n_with_Little_Children.avi  to  The_Matrix_3_Revolutions.avi and sharing it over Kazaa.

Yes, and people who use personal codes of morality to try to stop the progress of projects are great for the community too.

Anyone who uses linux would know the answer to that question, but when did I ever say I was an expert linux user? I'm not a programmer, nor am I better than a novice hacker, but I know enough to have decided that I'd much rather be using Linux as my sole OS. Anyone has the right to that opinion. I prefer to think of myself rather as a facilitator and motivator to the many worthwhile projects that are going on in this community, as well as a communicator of the developments that take place by hard working hackers who don't always have the time to share their discoveries.

As I said before, I've already been banned by the current Xbox Live protection scheme, so I'm not afraid to have my account banned or my xbox banned again by a different scheme.

If you are banned, please send me your banned EEPROM.

heh shanafan you post far too much, get a job, girlfriend, some friends, anything man I been on these forums longer than you and I have posted fuck all. When you have 5000 posts and reply like 10 times to a single post then you know its time to do something with your life.

Anyway just saw that ridiculous post count and thought I should give you some advice.  That XBlive info sounds interesting, it was only a matter of time until it happened and M$ will likely not start implementing ridiculous checks as it would cost them a lot more money for such a small percentage of people.  The average user doesnt even have a modchip and of the ones that do most of them will never find out about/figure out this trick.
