Title: Just Don't Want To Be Banned Again...
Post by: JBNinja99 on January 25, 2003, 02:30:00 PM
biggrin.gif now here's my question. as of now, evox is completly off my box. i have a enigma chip with a disable switch on it. what i want to do is put evox on as my dash instead of running it off a cd or dvd. is there any real danger in doing this? almost the entire time that i do have my box on the chip will be off. most of my backups are old, so my main purpose for having evox on right now is just for xbplayer or games off the hd. i know the dangers in accessing live menus from in game while playing a backup...or accessing the live tabs off the m$ dashboard with the chip on. i won't be doing any of that. i'm just curious if it is allright for me to have evox as my dash. thanks.

okay, so installing evox on my hd won't work because even if i boot up directly to a live game the bios will be checked by m$ and i will be banned? because i know that the way my xbox was set up before was with evox and with my switch. when i wanted to play a retail game, i would just turn off my chip and boot directly to the game. but if i wanted to access xbplayer or play a backup i would turn my chip on a boot to evox.
like i noticed when i have my chip off and have evox as my dash, my xbox would go to the 'xbox needs maintenece' screen. now is this the reason that with my current setup (enigmah chip) that i would be unable to have evox as my dash?
and lastly a quick question about evox. if i burn it to a dvd-r, minus the .ini file, will my xbox pick up on the .ini file on my hd? or will i have to burn it with the .ini file each time? the only reason i really don't want to have to run evox off a dvd-r or cd-rw is i don't want to have to keep updating the .ini file each time i add a new application or game. thanks.

ok, here is a solution for you so you don't have to burn the ini file to the DVD-r everytime you make a change:

on your harddrive set the orginal MSdash as c:xboxdash.xbe

set up evox as evoxdash.xbe on what ever drive you want c: e: or f: with it's ini file

Then make a evo-x disx that has the first menu item as the evox on your hardrive.  This way you can boot the disc, select evox from the menu, then it will load the evox that is on the harddrive.

The only problem is that if you turned on the xbox with the modchip on, and didn't have the evox bootdisc in the DVD drive, you would boot the msdashboard and could go live with your chip on, so you will have to be mindful of if the chip is on or off
